The first thing I would suggest is to learn your ship. This is true at any tier but the higher you go up the ladder the more important. You need to know what it can, and CAN"T do.
You need to know your concealment ranges, your AA ranges, your secondary ranges, how you have it specked out. How you have your Capt set up.
And most importantly how to use all that information to get the most from your ship.
This is the beginning of getting the most out of your ship as you will begin to learn about other ships and how yours matches up against them.
Once you tie all of this together, and it will take time and a bit of patience you will notice your ability to contribute increase game by game. Soon you will know which higher tier ships you can take on and what situations will favor you.
