Sorry I haven't seen this post until just now, tagging me would have gotten me in here soon.

Ways to counter CV attacks if you're in a CL.

1: Don't be out on a flank alone our out wondering alone (stay with a battle buddy)

2: Don't drive in straight lines.

Torp bombers, turn into them, to try to split them and lower your silhouette

Dive bombers, maneuver, angle, etc often the RNG of the bomb drops will make them miss most a strike.

Rocket, turn into them, essentially so the strike is perpendicular to your heading it spreads their rockets out and you cut through them.

3: Contrary to what people think there are a lot of counters to CV play that people don't talk about. Specifically and the biggest issue I see from players is parking, this is NOT a good tactic, Playing with throttles in turns, constantly changing course, these are all tactics that should be used to counter aerial ordinance (JUST LIKE SHELLS FIRED AT YOU)

4: If you are in something lightly armored, don't be on the front lines, this is not your job, this is the job for those that have armor or speed. I see this mistake made VERY often. If you are squishy, don't just charge out at the enemy. If you are in a bad position, use situational awareness of the minimap to fall back and get back with the team. Often and most times, this is what happens to a cruiser that is quickly picked off. Keep everything at arms length.

5: Learn your armor strong points on your ships, you can learn better how to angle and which way to turn to counter incoming fire, this is VERY MUCH seen vs the German CVs. A German rocket attack is VERY easily countered if you're in a cruiser and angle against the AP rockets.

6: Train up Captains! Do not dismiss this, having a captain with multiple skills even early game can make a big difference.

As a DD main, still to this day, CVs DO NOT bug me as some people are so doom and gloom about. Considering I play a lot of battles on the regular, I get killed and damaged more by surface ships than I do CVs.

I know some will disagree and just say its "impossible," it is not, if it was "impossible" there would be no players that are able to avoid these things and still be successful in battle.

Let me ask you this. And I apologize for answering your question with a question but.

If your team refuses to push, what will you gain from being the only one pushing forward to die as you get primaried for being up front alone?

For me, when I get on a team that does this, I play the same, use the BBs that sit back and watch everyone die to be the armor for you, fall back, even if that means EARLY game your damage output is low, late game you could end up turning that into a victory.

The last couple days I have been playing Donskoi(because I reset the RU cruiser line), case in point. You DO NOT want to be up front with her, so I fall back, keep everyone at arms length.

The other day I had a battle where my BBs sat way back and didn't push, I made sure I was kiting away all the time and engaging at range. By the end of the battle I had 199k dmg, 18 fires, 6 kills and we actually won... We DEFINITELY should have lost, the battle, but in the late battle, the enemy pushed thinking it was an easy win, we were down to me and a DD, the DD kept everything spotted and I burned everything I could and it worked out (btw, the enemy DID have a CV in that battle).

Though you may think you are "helping" by pushing towards the enemy, if you have a team that is NOT helping you, in the end, you're just going to be seen as food by the enemy.

Firstly,

I personally apologize to @gillhunter now that I see this topic and have started reading through the replies. I am, quite sorry, but there are a few people in this topic that aim to derail the topic and personally jab at each other instead of actually trying to be constructive and offer tactics on how to handle situations.

This is OF COURSE, not allowed.

And for those of you who are doing it, I will tell you, this is your last warning, I will not allow it in ANY context any more if you have been talked to in the past about this.

You wish to have a conversation about "words and their uses" feel free to do so in your own topic.

People wish to talk about how you "can't do this" or "can't do that." AGAIN, if this were the case, then there wouldn't be players literally doing it and suggesting things to do it.

Sit parked in a bow tanking ship, guess what might happen?

Sit parked in ANY ship, guess what might happen?

Sit parked in a CV in one spot the entire battle, guess what might happen?

Be up front in a light cruiser and firing your guns and stay spotted, guess what might happen?

At the end of the day, if you want to seriously discuss things, since we all want to have a conversation about what can and can't occur, there is NO COUNTER FOR ANYTHING by the metric you are proposing, which is NOT true.

I responded to this based off the OP and not reading the 7 pages of back and forth that TBH most of was off topic. So I am sorry if my response didn't address what you were asking.
