[2019] why is detonation a mechanic

Well...
Detonations took place in real life so that's actually the reason why it was added to the game in the first place.
You can always turn it off with flags which you can also buy for coal.

As I said, you can remove that completely with a flag. I don't see any issues here.

It's not selling for creds :)
