Epicenter was an unpopular game mode, unfortunately, so the decision was made to replace it with a separate style of play for randoms.

Hi, Asym
I don't have data about opinions on Epicenter on-hand. It was a game-mode that we had learned over time was something people disliked, sort of the the way that Ocean is the least favorite map. We began looking for a new game-mode that people did like to replace it and decided on Arms Race.

I see a lot of people equating this "popularity" thing to subs and CV's. Please try to keep in mind that what you see here in the forums is only 1 section of the feedback that we receive. While it may seem, even correctly, that the forums are overwhelmingly against submarines, this is not the case across other areas.

I've noticed that the Forums like to try and draw a straight-line from nearly every action we take back to a revenue motivation. Try and remember that there are things done for monetization and things done to give people more options on how to play the game. The fundamental core of the game is loading a ship into battle and progressing up a tech tree, then doing the same again until you have the ships that you most want. That's the crux of it, so providing more game experiences is a big part of the core mechanic and don't directly tie-in to monetization in a 1-to-1 manner.
