Heyo Mephiztopheleze and everyone else.

So while in your eyes, it may not be, the health and interaction between CVs and DDs is in a much better place than it has been in a very long time. Is there room for improvement? There always is with everything in life, but these interactions are no longer as "broken" as what they have previously been, both in pre- 8.0 and in the first few patches after.

Yes, CVs have the ability to spot you - however:

They can no longer spot the entire map at once anymore

They have to assess the opportunity cost of doing so since they can only play with one squad now

While they can drop a plane on you, this plane isn't super strong and at most lasts ~60 seconds

CVs are no longer able to detect torpedoes via planes

Air detection range is extremely small if DD AA is turned off

Yes, CVs have the ability to do damage to you - however:

CVs are not longer able to cross drop DDs

It is incredibly hard to First Blood + Dev Strike combo a DD anymore due to squadron limits

Chances of fires and flood have been significantly reduced since pre-8.0

Yes, Subs are incoming - however:

DDs are the primary counter for submarines with their depth charges

Submarines will have extremely low HP and will be punished if playing at close distances

Remember, submarines can only attack and detect other ships in periscope and surface depths, where they would become visible themselves

There are some great suggestions about counter play against a CV in the thread from other players; I would summarize these with the list of:

While a CV can spot you, it doesn't mean their team can shoot you - use islands and positioning to reduce attacks from spotting

Utilizing "WASD Hacks": that is, make sure you are fluctuating your speed and heading to throw off a CV's aim, the propulsion mod can be good for quickly changing speeds

Disabling your AA to reduce your detection until the planes are within your range and then turn on to capitalize on them being already in your aura.

Avoid diving straight into battle - play tactically going the route that is less obvious

Play CVs and see learn how they attack and their weaknesses so you can adopt these into your DD play.

Some players no matter what is said will always claim something is broken, as I said in the sentence before - there will always be room for improvement. You're taking me a little too literally here.

Please recall that 3 CV games are limited to lower tiers and have a much lower chance of occurring - but there is still tactics a player can deploy to make it considerably more difficult for the CV to be effective against them.

Fem,
