During World War II, she covered landing operations in the Solomon Islands, New Guinea, and the Philippines, and she also fought in the Battle of the Philippine Sea and the Battle of Leyte Gulf. US BB W. Virginia '44 is a Colorado-class ship that embodies the American battleship West Virginia as of 1944. She received a second life after she was sunk during the attack on Pearl Harbor. In the autumn of 1944, the battleship returned to service and proved herself with excellence in the Battle of Leyte. Later, she participated in the Battle of Iwo Jima and the landing operations on Okinawa.
