Sapient crabs, being clearly based on an aquatic species, have physiological limitations that must be respected to maintain realism within the game universe. Building homes in the form of corals is contradictory, since:
Corals depend on water to survive: Real corals are not plants, but colonies of small marine animals (polyps) that have a symbiotic relationship with algae. Outside of water, they dehydrate and die, which goes against the concept of terrestrial or near-surface habitation.
Crabs are semi-aquatic: Even though they are adapted to live near the sea, their physiology does not support the idea of total dependence on corals. Therefore, the choice of corals as material or inspiration for their constructions does not reflect their needs or biological intelligence.
To solve this, I propose replacing the coral constructions with something more in keeping with the coastal environment. Sea stones would be ideal, as they are abundant materials on the coast and could be shaped by intelligent creatures to create structures. This replacement would still maintain the marine theme, but would add biological coherence.
Artificial Intelligence: "We Can Only Live on the Coast"
Implementing a logic in the AI that conditions the sapient crabs to build their villages and colonies close to the coast would make the race more unique and fascinating, in addition to avoiding inconsistencies. Thus, their constructions would always be close to the natural habitat of these beings, maintaining balance with the ecosystem.
Benefits of the Proposal:
Respect for biology: Brings greater verisimilitude to the race, making it richer and more realistic.
Differentiation of races: A natural geographic limitation for sapient crabs would make them more unique and differentiated from land races.
-
Gameplay coherence: Players would understand that crabs need the coast to survive, which would add a strategic level to the interaction with this race.
Switching to sea stones and restricting the game to the coastline would not break the game's fantasy theme, but instead would make it more immersive and appealing to players who appreciate consistent detail.
