s | hi Ronan hello and welcome to episode 13 |
---|---|
s | of the world's rift dev podcast from |
s | boss studios I'm master the messy good |
s | for you guys mouth had the magnificence |
s | what we said last week isn't it and I'm |
s | Charlie Julia I don't know if he said |
s | these names are gonna last anyway yes |
s | are we doing what's going on we're on |
s | episode 13 Matt is that oh if only was |
s | so Halloween podcast you guys and it's |
s | gonna go out under a ladder or in the |
s | bathroom stalls yeah we've been working |
s | pretty hard on getting everything in for |
s | update 29 just hit feature lock put one |
s | come in this morning I've put a couple |
s | in debate today everything that all |
s | players have ever requests yeah |
s | everything you whatever you're thinking |
s | of I must put it in I just did some work |
s | on the damage curve we've had the |
s | masterful Thomas come back in the road |
s | to Grace's of this presentation tom and |
s | it's just okay good there's goodly |
s | literary the tenacious Thomas come back |
s | and he's done some some he's basically |
s | what reworked the damaged system so it |
s | should rather than relying on unities |
s | built in physics stuff it's using some |
s | Irvine sort of systems which should make |
s | it more reliable when you |
s | do you mean player impact image yeah |
s | player impact an object impact damage so |
s | you don't like cannons and boards no so |
s | things like drops should be a bit more |
s | consistent things like getting hit by |
s | things that are flying around should be |
s | a bit more consistent and so I was just |
s | sort of doing some work on that curve |
s | balancing it making it am probably a |
s | little more forgiving than maybe the |
s | first instincts that the numbers of yeah |
s | what is it |
s | true yes some people ask is it true that |
s | dependent depending on what body part |
s | you hit you get more or less damage in |
s | the game at the moment that is true but |
s | this reeve work doesn't have that in say |
s | so it's just consistent damage is it |
s | going to be blessed or more forgiving |
s | it's well it's it's more predictable so |
s | if I fall from a very large height I'm |
s | more likely to die from that but if I'm |
s | sort of just on my ship and things sort |
s | of you know accidentally move all this |
s | of physics bug whatever you should be |
s | less likely to take damage from that I |
s | mean you know the sort of the reason |
s | that it feels unfeeling at the moment |
s | more than anything is cuz you don't know |
s | why you're getting hit like if you know |
s | that if I swing at this at this speed |
s | it's gonna do some damage then you can |
s | plan around that but if you sort of you |
s | know I don't know you climbing something |
s | and you get a bit of a a force that |
s | comes out of nowhere or something and |
s | you just bash into someone and die then |
s | that doesn't feel great and it's that |
s | sort of the big thing you know so you |
s | should be able to start it's not you |
s | know it's not perfect and they were |
s | still so you know just in my bouncing |
s | it's not well I don't like everything |
s | else |
s | unlike everything some of the only thing |
s | that isn't perfect is yeah I mean like I |
s | was I was you know just just messing |
s | around with doing some of the stuff you |
s | know a lot of the things that people do |
s | when they're landing on things is |
s | they'll you know hit rag doll at the |
s | right time and hit things of the right |
s | angle and you know it's still kind of |
s | possible to do some of that stuff so |
s | it's not it's not fixed everything but |
s | it is you know more predictable in |
s | general and I think better yeah yeah if |
s | it's more predictable it's definitely |
s | better yeah yeah I've been working on |
s | the tutorial stuff onboarding for new |
s | players so fans of the game for a long |
s | time |
s | this may not apply to you unless you're |
s | trying to get your friends to play with |
s | you in which case you should have less |
s | explaining to do about how the game |
s | works yeah we're working on building out |
s | the onboarding for post Haven so they |
s | became the start Island we're working on |
s | teaching players how to build and pilot |
s | their ship now what's nice about this is |
s | is sort of a dual features not only do |
s | we get the onboarding and hopefully |
s | allow new players to access the game |
s | more easily we also are building the |
s | foundation for a quest system which can |
s | be used outside of the tutorial and more |
s | general you know adding quests to the |
s | game yeah more detail on that much later |
s | when the actual system is in place but |
s | just know that this is a we're not just |
s | working that early or were laying the |
s | foundation for something much bigger |
s | yeah I think one of the things we like |
s | to do when we're especially you know |
s | when we're planning out feature at the |
s | moment is try and think about ways that |
s | those features can be put in in such a |
s | way that they're sort of flexible and |
s | last do something else later for Less |
s | work because I think in the past we've |
s | been guilty on this project of making |
s | things that are a little bit too bespoke |
s | and a little bit too difficult to use |
s | for other things yeah that's one of the |
s | big lessons we've learned |
s | hmmm what else is going into what else |
s | has been featuring locked all that all |
s | the food stuff I was talking about is in |
s | Oliver just before we recorded this |
s | found an excellent bug where something |
s | that's supposed to increase your sprint |
s | speed by 10% |
s | I actually increases it by a thousand |
s | which is amazing their pleaded with me |
s | to leave in the game but it just looks |
s | like Dex flash found a new new way into |
s | trick-trick made I mean yeah one of the |
s | cool things that warframe did to be fair |
s | was you know when people figured out |
s | glitches with their jumping and moving |
s | system and they sort of made a part of |
s | the game yeah exactly instead of yanking |
s | around maps you can now sort of free run |
s | almost so you know we like to look at |
s | things that are really cool for one |
s | reason or another and find out ways of |
s | implementing some element of that but I |
s | don't think |
s | a thousand percent spring a speed |
s | increase is the is the way the wagon |
s | that they were running they're running |
s | so fast they were taking damage yeah it |
s | was funny so one of my favorite items in |
s | any video game is this is this pair of |
s | boots that you find reasonably early on |
s | in Morrowind basically you just just |
s | after you sort of leave the first time |
s | you're going on exploring if you go to |
s | the right spot you just sort of you know |
s | hear the screaming and there's man pulls |
s | out of the sky and he just crumpled on |
s | the floor in front of you like what the |
s | hell happens here and he got at him and |
s | you know you just loot him cuz you're a |
s | cool person |
s | yeah just leaves random corpses that you |
s | find but if you do that you find he's |
s | got some really shiny boots on called |
s | the can't wonder boots of like high jump |
s | or something and because that worked |
s | well for him environment of storytelling |
s | you see it's very good you put the boots |
s | on he like man this thing will give me |
s | like you know huge amount of high jumps |
s | ridiculous he put them on you jump into |
s | the sky and then they've got no |
s | enchantment of slow falling on them so |
s | except for where those boots are is they |
s | came from a tree we'll never know we'll |
s | never know |
s | what I like to do that sees those beats |
s | and then just have some slow fall |
s | patients or Levitan yeah yeah you can be |
s | pretty smart back yeah it's right there |
s | does not confirm any of that for worlds |
s | of drift know it but we are going to |
s | definitely put boots of blinding speed |
s | in which allow you to run a thousand |
s | percent sevens blind people and blind |
s | everyone in real life through the game |
s | yeah we also oh that's funny actually |
s | you could just increase the brightness |
s | sharply destroy people's monitors oh |
s | yeah yeah swear guys they're not out to |
s | get you the other stuff is gonna wait |
s | we've got some some exciting new |
s | Christmas stuff for the holidays I'm |
s | sorry we have holiday stuff going in it |
s | happens to resemble some similar colors |
s | to wear foundation doesn't have Chris |
s | it's not a religious thing is that they |
s | don't have that to means yeah so it's |
s | we got some holiday stuff coming in for |
s | that including a new ship part which is |
s | I guess we could probably talk about it |
s | it's the it's nothing huge it's just the |
s | Christmas lantern and what's exciting |
s | about that is no god I said it again yes |
s | the holiday lantern and what's cool |
s | about that is that we're also |
s | introducing a new dyeing system to |
s | replace the one that's currently in |
s | there we're sorry more about a new dye |
s | system yeah I can I can do that I can |
s | also apologize to current players who |
s | just got used to the one that we are you |
s | know added in 27 that was added mostly |
s | to try and get this in the game as fast |
s | as we could but then realized that there |
s | were some problems with the way that we |
s | did it to have and adapt to other things |
s | which now that that's been changed |
s | should allow us to do things like dye |
s | ships hate our chips and paint different |
s | ship parts and also horrifically ugly |
s | combinations of colors whenever you want |
s | but mostly pink pink pink is lovely is |
s | Dinkley I don't actually know this is |
s | their pink dye him again yeah it's not |
s | actually pink I'm saving that for a |
s | special occasion I was sort of hoping to |
s | put that in balance exactly but you know |
s | maybe we just slide it in there that's |
s | yeah okay so the rest of the cool thing |
s | about the Christmas Lantern is it's the |
s | first diable white in the game and so I |
s | said Christmas again whatever it's the |
s | first type of light in the game and the |
s | idea was for it to resemble holiday |
s | lights and and now you can play some |
s | around your your chip and create |
s | colorful displays which is I think super |
s | cool I'm excited yeah let's make a ship |
s | with a nice inviting red light yeah yeah |
s | oh we should make a trap |
s | Santa mites yeah like moths to a flame |
s | just like in real red light districts oh |
s | that tractor I didn't pick up on that a |
s | big deal yeah actually no tingly trying |
s | to keep the stomping straight well yeah |
s | no we had we did have a strip club in |
s | Rosa's roof right so maybe the case you |
s | had all the interior lighting in there |
s | for yeah yeah people dancing |
s | you've seen the video where I mean the |
s | adventure but there were people who were |
s | on poles in yeah it was the least erotic |
s | never it never clicked maybe if it was |
s | bathed in red light need to be feather |
s | on that many strip clubs with like a |
s | nice person just playing some gentle |
s | acoustic guitar in the corner I might |
s | not the typical vibe there might make |
s | them better maybe I think one thing I |
s | have mentioned we were trying to do for |
s | this update which we didn't manage to |
s | get in which I think I should mention is |
s | the Marauder instrument stuff which is |
s | gone on the backlog because it got |
s | pushed the next update basically cuz |
s | yeah we have enough are we art assets of |
s | now most of the art is now done but it |
s | took until quite late in the day and we |
s | needed the code support for it and I |
s | think because the you know the one of |
s | the new instruments is a sort of seated |
s | instrument it needs a new system so it |
s | more code than you know how seating |
s | works how where well the house right now |
s | yeah yeah I mean also obviously as as |
s | you got as you guys want well know that |
s | the one thing that didn't think about |
s | when I planned the instrument layout was |
s | that we're using the e key which is how |
s | you get off things that when you're |
s | sitting so just just for that one |
s | exception paragraph in other words what |
s | else is gonna we got we got win over |
s | tying and painting and we've gone over |
s | cooking cooking we have the tutorial |
s | stuff going in and a whole bunch of |
s | other stuff like rarity for the icons |
s | like engines you want to oh right right |
s | yeah over he is being introduced to the |
s | game and with it the material rebalance |
s | as well as the addition of three new |
s | materials tell me the name of the new |
s | material I was gonna pull off actually |
s | even to make it sort of a surprise but |
s | there are two of them have ties to names |
s | in the Lord mm-hmm and one of them has |
s | ties to the name in joke |
s | I actually did I wanted to make one Leo |
s | Miam for her blue okay but he hated that |
s | he hated genuinely hated it actually one |
s | of the one of the foods has a little |
s | rough a little in J references I'm not |
s | gonna tell you what food it is but let |
s | me tell you an unrelated story about |
s | shortbread there was an email a long |
s | time ago used to get we have a biscuit |
s | tin in the office which is a replenished |
s | of the by the benevolence of butter and |
s | as one reasons why I got very very fat |
s | for a while it's a certain point we were |
s | quite regularly getting delicious |
s | shortbread and and I know that it's |
s | obviously a very common thing in this |
s | country I believe Americans do you know |
s | about shortbread we know what about it |
s | yeah but you know it's our bread big |
s | like the rest of America yeah your |
s | biscuits have exited bread as well it's |
s | mad it's mad anyway we what a biscuit |
s | shortbread is a biscuit biscuit deliver |
s | dollar gimme they're very there's |
s | basically they're very sort of buttery |
s | delicious flour sugar its height |
s | challenge and it's yeah so there's a guy |
s | in the office could ian and he sent an |
s | email because we're getting so much |
s | shortbread and not enough the other |
s | stuff for him and he's like you look |
s | look he said look shortbreads not that |
s | good it's not that good and we're |
s | getting phyllo of it and it's just not |
s | worth it because we're all gonna get fat |
s | and he was definitely right about that |
s | yeah we need to get less shortbread |
s | that's we call it shortbread cake and |
s | people never let him forget the father |
s | he's an enemy of shortbread hates fun |
s | and so unrelated there's no shortbread |
s | yeah completely unrelated but mo butter |
s | so actually you know if it's a mystery |
s | how the butter gets in there a butter |
s | later and then lights right so it's done |
s | to my butter don't it yeah you see the |
s | things I did think about that and I |
s | thought about the the idea of any of the |
s | creatures we have in the game producing |
s | milk |
s | that wasn't worth that image so I'm not |
s | adding milk adding butter the wheels |
s | yeah maybe well because some whale milk |
s | what do you mean when we have more |
s | whales when we have whales in the game |
s | I'm item 427 very excited I stumbled |
s | over my words yeah if you guys haven't I |
s | can't wait we've talked about like |
s | [Laughter] |
s | language family podcast obviously |
s | everybody spends so on talking about |
s | strip clubs I really I really enjoyed |
s | actually last week when when we asked |
s | Alec to capture a swear word he pledged |
s | herein when we mention okay so less a |
s | thing that broadly covers that still of |
s | the key points that we've got locked in |
s | for 29 doesn't it oh wait so sorry about |
s | the overheat it sort of skipped over |
s | that with that engine there but yeah |
s | just a little bit |
s | somehow shortbread so overheat is going |
s | into the game with that comes the visual |
s | effects for that are appropriate for the |
s | actual system as well as a new it's a |
s | stat I suppose that it's going to show |
s | up on your schematics for engines and |
s | cannons and swivel guns which of the |
s | three things that can overheat it's |
s | called the cooling factor it's not a bar |
s | it's not represented as a bar like the |
s | rest of the stats that you might see |
s | it's represented right underneath the |
s | weight as a number that goes between 0 |
s | to 100 currently with the materials that |
s | we have in the game right now it's |
s | impossible to get a hundred so for those |
s | of you who really want a hundred but |
s | can't seem to get it don't fret that's |
s | how we designed the game and what that |
s | does is it it should show you how the |
s | connectivity of your engine is allowing |
s | it to cool and how efficiently it does |
s | cool and how quickly it cools yeah it's |
s | a based on stats that are already in the |
s | game so nothing is is you know |
s | specifically changing based on the |
s | materials that are you know that's that |
s | the thing does already exists it's just |
s | a map representing that in a way that |
s | is understand of what someone who's |
s | actually building an engine because |
s | right you wanted things we wanted to |
s | avoid was having two engines that based |
s | on the stats that were visible looked |
s | exactly the same but one of which was |
s | wildly better at cooling right what I'm |
s | hoping is that maybe we could have |
s | another podcast or stream or something |
s | dedicated to me explaining the system |
s | because it's it's a little complicated I |
s | love tuition or I could write a tech |
s | Tuesday whatever it is when it when it |
s | goes live well we can do both I think |
s | when it goes live on pts and people are |
s | testing yeah yeah yeah we can stream and |
s | have fun with it and experiment with |
s | that sounds great yeah without an atlas |
s | core it's gonna be hard and yeah tech |
s | Tuesdays are always welcome yeah okay |
s | very welcome I've got a 16 page document |
s | outlining all of it so we can just throw |
s | that in there and let players read it |
s | sure great joke yeah yeah that's it's |
s | that's a lot of we have some more stuff |
s | that we haven't talked about that's |
s | going in but that's probably enough for |
s | now right yeah yeah if you guys want to |
s | throw me some stuff over to the roadmap |
s | details so we've been doing a thing with |
s | the roadmap and the thing is we're |
s | adding more details to some of the stuff |
s | mentioned on the roadmap some of the |
s | more no not more exciting some of the |
s | things that we can actually find words |
s | to describe such as new features or big |
s | new changes or anything that has visual |
s | cues or will actively affect your you |
s | know and change your gameplay style |
s | we're adding more details to that |
s | because a lot of the people say why are |
s | you sniffing it's fine |
s | some Alford's actually nochmal for it |
s | actually you monster yes looks the same |
s | might have been helping me compile lots |
s | of |
s | documents design documents and I've been |
s | bullying the art MOOC to Lucas i sat |
s | down with Luke and we went through all |
s | the history of the stuff that I was |
s | asking him about what it was like Regas |
s | grieves and how that came about and now |
s | it's it's going I'm slowly updating the |
s | roadmap and you will now see it'll read |
s | more buttons appearing on most of the |
s | road map it's very exciting |
s | it is very exciting and that will let |
s | you read more if you click those buttons |
s | that's true it's sort of |
s | self-explanatory I just wanted to get it |
s | out there just you know make it very |
s | clear yeah I suppose I see what we're |
s | doing with the read more buttons nice |
s | full circle yeah and you guys can see |
s | some earlier iterations of some concept |
s | arts including things like because we're |
s | rebalancing of redoing whether walls you |
s | can see how they started and how they |
s | were initially designed and thought |
s | through so that's fun yeah but yeah more |
s | deeps more deeds that we're moving on to |
s | the community question question right |
s | community be asking Finn says from the |
s | blog yeah where's the button that lets |
s | you skip the tutorial mal for okay so |
s | the bun yes you've probably heard me |
s | talking if you're a regular listener to |
s | the podcast about how we're gonna let |
s | people who've already completed the |
s | tutorial skip the tutorial and obviously |
s | then the update comes out and there's no |
s | skip button it was it was it was sort of |
s | that or delay the launch really because |
s | there were so many sort of weird |
s | educators and things with the way that |
s | we were tracking whether or not people |
s | should be given that tutorial thing and |
s | also the actual skipping of the steps |
s | was completely broken so you know it's |
s | not it's not impossible to do it just |
s | didn't make it in for the actual launch |
s | of the feature but we are working on |
s | putting it back in you know it's it's |
s | you know it obviously it's annoying if |
s | you're making lots of new characters and |
s | you have to keep going through the thing |
s | again I mean I think it's also important |
s | that you know I've been guilty in the |
s | past in when I'm playing games that have |
s | you know quite a complex systems and a |
s | tutorial being a donut okay and then not |
s | name I'm doing and then stopping playing |
s | the game so you know I think I think |
s | we're probably gonna make it so the |
s | people who are just starting the game |
s | for the first time just go into it and |
s | it's not you know it's not a |
s | ridiculously long tutorial but what it |
s | does do is it makes the first play |
s | experience for new players a lot |
s | smoother you know we've done a lot of |
s | play tests and and just dropping people |
s | into islands like we used to the rate of |
s | people giving up his is so high because |
s | you know you just get dropped into this |
s | island and because we don't have control |
s | over what those islands are people don't |
s | know how to do anything and we can't |
s | sort of you know show them very easily |
s | because we have no idea what the island |
s | that they're on is going to be like so |
s | that's the big thing that's the reason |
s | why havens in and that's why it's not |
s | optional at least for new players but I |
s | think you know we want to make it so |
s | that if you're making lots of new |
s | characters or one thing or another you |
s | don't have to repeatedly do Haven I mean |
s | you know it doesn't take that long |
s | though I can do all those in five |
s | minutes yeah well I do sort of spawn |
s | with so potentially you like if if you |
s | spawn with two or three other people |
s | you're out of metal you need to run |
s | around get to the difficult parts oh |
s | yeah but if you're an experienced play |
s | you can go into the island yes well |
s | within the experienced players ideally |
s | the ones that are trying to skip ya |
s | tutorial yeah it yeah it doesn't take |
s | that long but it is something that we |
s | want you guys to be able to skip it's |
s | something that was actually taken off |
s | the table for this next update but I'm |
s | still trying to get him in um and the |
s | reason was taken off the table is |
s | because we're trying to fix other things |
s | with the tutorial at the moment yeah |
s | it's like because we're we were changing |
s | the way there the tutorial prompts etc |
s | work if we were to have done it before |
s | now we'd have to redo it anyway so right |
s | it's the way it's not that we don't |
s | think it's important it's just that it's |
s | not as important as having the system |
s | work correctly anyway yeah yeah and you |
s | know we need to redo it if we did it |
s | beforehand so yeah that means yes if it |
s | needs to be laid down the line oh well |
s | Freddy's ed says on Steam thank you devs |
s | oh yeah that was that was a big one who |
s | was a double comment |
s | Freddie's ed says on Steam Thank You |
s | Dobbs for creating this amazing game we |
s | love you we love that you fixed duping |
s | and we love lots of content for the |
s | upcoming patches please give us some |
s | more in-game items such as weapons and |
s | allow us to find a blueprint for those |
s | boots the boots are now yes sir actually |
s | the reason that there's no schematic for |
s | the Regas graves is because it's you |
s | spelled it wrong we didn't fix it we did |
s | it's coming for this next this nice |
s | ending yeah oh yeah I think we did we |
s | have a the boots themselves rarely drop |
s | or is that they're just not in the game |
s | the boots themselves are appropriately |
s | rare yet the schematic for it doesn't |
s | drop because we accidentally spelled it |
s | wrong in the loot table so me guess that |
s | yeah we used an old name for it in me |
s | yeah we did yeah yeah sorry about that |
s | guys but that head should be in the game |
s | and it's coming very soon and thanks for |
s | the love dude we love hearing the dude |
s | that you like the game as for new |
s | in-game weapons or in-game items such as |
s | weapons there's gonna be a bunch of new |
s | in-game stuff coming for this this next |
s | patch none of it is weapons but that is |
s | soon we're discussing doing a sort of |
s | combat update where we're gonna add a |
s | whole bunch of violence and it's a it |
s | will include weapons so keep your ears |
s | peeled is a blackjack your eat ears and |
s | eyes peeled and what a blackjack would |
s | do is it'll ragdoll plays we went home |
s | ooh |
s | that actually sounds pretty cool sounds |
s | incredibly annoying game design I should |
s | try it |
s | plus the 1000 sprint speed and someone |
s | Sprint's past you like a baseball yeah |
s | then you have to hit them with your |
s | blackjack and ragdoll them into the |
s | stadium cricket if we have rounders back |
s | around us back then it converts whatever |
s | motion that they have into the direction |
s | yeah yeah |
s | yeah ragdoll then you could round us |
s | back and then they golf into the |
s | bleachers this is how our design happens |
s | yeah live on a podcast inspiration where |
s | [Laughter] |
s | it just spills forth a real problem |
s | frozen waters ask some YouTube what |
s | password protecting containers ever be |
s | considered it would be great a great qol |
s | mechanic and could encourage more |
s | organic and spread and grouping and |
s | crewing if that danger of losing your |
s | stuff to a crew member is mitigated we |
s | all know how attached folks get to their |
s | internet stuff is interesting here |
s | because I guess at the moment you know |
s | whoever's crude on your ship has access |
s | to all your stuff so the idea being that |
s | if you put your sort of nearest and |
s | dearest stuff in like a special lockbox |
s | with a personal look then you could be |
s | feel happier about inviting people to |
s | occur and not have to worry about them |
s | just seeing your stuff and leaving yeah |
s | that sounds like a cool idea I think it |
s | goes against at least herb and Luke's |
s | idea of what the game is supposed to be |
s | which is this like constantly on edge |
s | who do I trust |
s | experience of like I know it's a not |
s | necessarily because it is something |
s | that's like if you aren't sure who to |
s | trust then you could still have this I |
s | mean if you had like one padlock for |
s | example yeah like some one container |
s | conceptually I don't mind it but I would |
s | it's gonna come down to like the |
s | holistic idea of what is worlds and how |
s | do we want people to play it in that |
s | regard it's a conversation very good you |
s | phrasing waters thank you it's just ice |
s | so that's what that is |
s | his name is sure if that's intended to |
s | be like an ice pun or remove is what's |
s | something about electricity could be |
s | electricity is electric water type |
s | Pokemon maybe the last waters |
s | what's a reference there's a pop-culture |
s | reference |
s | I love that bubble okay anyway right |
s | Shiraz asks I have a technical question |
s | how do you build the walls when you make |
s | a new world do you just have a square |
s | over you and draw lines or do you do it |
s | manually in 3d piece by piece |
s | how does it work Miele Ford well I |
s | answered this on YouTube as well but I |
s | will answer again here for the folks at |
s | home who are not too shy rose so |
s | basically there's the tool that we have |
s | is it's a big square and I place down |
s | the these markers which dictate the |
s | different biomes and those are used to |
s | calculate Voronoi cells which are |
s | basically just automatically generated |
s | walls and then I encode those points |
s | with the data of what biome type and |
s | what cultures out they are and that is |
s | used to decide what kind of wall type |
s | they are around there and then I I can |
s | place islands down from our database |
s | onto that and adjust the height of them |
s | as well so I have you no control over |
s | the sort of longitude and latitude as |
s | well as the height of all the islands |
s | but I don't have direct control over the |
s | walls and I don't have direct control |
s | over the shape of things I just sort of |
s | have to move those cells around that |
s | works which means if I want to for |
s | example take one by them and make it |
s | bigger than the others for one reason or |
s | another I have to do that by moving we |
s | have the biomes in the map away from it |
s | so it's a little fiddly a little awkward |
s | but it's what we've got and you know we |
s | want to update it to make it a little |
s | bit more intuitive and do some |
s | hand-drawn stuffs we can have some |
s | things aren't straight lines but at the |
s | moment we can't say we will at some |
s | point I've been talking about that for |
s | and how long have I been on this project |
s | now I think I'll be doing the map for |
s | three years three years |
s | damn yeah well one day well here's |
s | another question about walls and things |
s | and barriers squall asks would it be |
s | possible to create a pocket of space |
s | within a storm sound wall like an eye of |
s | a hurricane and with that could within |
s | that there be an island it's not |
s | possible I just explained it however |
s | that rad and I |
s | I asked him when I first got yeah I was |
s | like hey what if we did this he was like |
s | hey yeah that'd be cool no we've done |
s | some experiments with hand-drawn maps we |
s | have like a quite a sort of it was a bit |
s | of a technical a bit hard to use system |
s | that just sort of generated the visual |
s | patterns so it didn't work as actual |
s | biome indicator so it would need more |
s | work for that and to be honest it was so |
s | long and difficult it wouldn't be viable |
s | for a proper map but as soon as we had |
s | that as a system I was able to make |
s | these sort of pocket plans and so to be |
s | honest they're like that the way that we |
s | want to do the whole layout is to have |
s | you know and we have a biome called the |
s | expanse but it's no more expansive than |
s | any others the idea is that the majority |
s | of the map is expanse and there's not a |
s | huge amount of walls or barriers there |
s | and then you have these pockets of other |
s | Buyten type so remnants would be a small |
s | biome that's in there and then so you |
s | have these sort of little pocket ones |
s | but then we can do interesting stuff |
s | with weather patterns with that as well |
s | that's the idea we just can't do it yet |
s | it just breaks that's not it's not means |
s | not broken it's just not made yet that |
s | way it can't that was a reference to the |
s | make the map bigger yeah no no the size |
s | it is I mean to be honest like if it was |
s | less because of the and pandrol maps |
s | it's possible at the same sort of time |
s | we'd be able to do a bit bigger maybe |
s | maybe we'll see because it'd be less |
s | islands maybe the creature stuff would |
s | be another point cool |
s | maybe neon asks neon serious neon what |
s | happens to your stuff ship inventory |
s | everything when you delete a character |
s | if the ship is logged out does it stay |
s | disappeared forever or does the Reviver |
s | get cleared in the ship and the ship |
s | spawns owned by no one this your now |
s | non-existent character drop a bag or |
s | whatever your was in your inventory and |
s | belt when you delete it I have so many |
s | questions |
s | he also says loved the podcast keep up |
s | the great work peeps say hi to leek |
s | Andheri Luke from me Julia |
s | so I think actually we're investigating |
s | a bug right now where the ships do not |
s | disappear as they should but the |
s | intended behavior is that when you |
s | delete |
s | a character all of your inventory and |
s | your ship and everything is just removed |
s | from the service yeah I mean obviously |
s | if somebody who hasn't deleted their |
s | character is still playing the game then |
s | it will stay there it's only when the |
s | last person is deletes their character |
s | should happen so say there's two people |
s | and from one of them deletes it |
s | obviously dying so character then the |
s | ships would still be there because the |
s | other characters still there you inherit |
s | if they both Anita character I think |
s | that's only the case if they're |
s | registered to a Reviver on that ship |
s | yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah so that that's |
s | what the the people are supposed to do |
s | right now I think it's a little bit |
s | different the the character does not |
s | drop a bag the inventory is just to look |
s | at setting it down yeah all right thanks |
s | for love yeah I was I was actually very |
s | pleased with how sweet episode were nice |
s | I mean this is what this is why we're |
s | doing what we're doing for you guys we |
s | want to help you and we love here in the |
s | deposit of feedback thank you yeah and |
s | the questions spend that some of these |
s | questions are awesome I like this next |
s | one yeah crazy Savior asks all of these |
s | buyers away are from YouTube I've always |
s | been a fan of having to overcome an |
s | environmental aspect of the game so |
s | speaking for of new biomes and and a |
s | little actual player versus environment |
s | content would we ever get a storm zone |
s | wait I skipped a life storm zone |
s | something like a storm wall but scaled |
s | down and roving lightning areas similar |
s | how to rain spawns in particular spots I |
s | feel like the weather is a huge |
s | environmental aspect that could make |
s | even the dullest moments of the game |
s | very exciting yes I think the other two |
s | on the roadmap biomes that we have |
s | coming up for the next one would be the |
s | Arctic biome which will probably have |
s | some sort of blizzards and the one after |
s | that the jungle biome and the sort of |
s | very early designs we have for that |
s | involve sort of quite a lot more player |
s | versus environment stuff so you know the |
s | the sort of I don't know if this is |
s | where it's going to end up being but |
s | this is the the plan that I write out |
s | for it like a year ago was that it would |
s | have a lot of these a lot of poisonous |
s | clouds like noxious stuff in it so there |
s | will be you know |
s | waise island craters could make things |
s | that create Julia's laughing I know |
s | there would be poisonous gases and |
s | potentially also some interesting things |
s | like some some different kinds of |
s | insects that could bite you if you |
s | walked through them and something that |
s | they wouldn't be they would be sort of |
s | well the idea is that it's like you know |
s | you can get the fireflies which is sort |
s | of law particles to go around so instead |
s | of creating a new creature with |
s | behaviors is this cloud of insects that |
s | exists on these islands and they would |
s | you know maybe bite you or or do some |
s | other interesting things maybe some |
s | bouncy mushrooms because I love bouncy |
s | mushrooms I mean weird chock full of |
s | ideas for different how many ideas |
s | yeah and none of that is confirmed |
s | because it's all just written down the |
s | Google Doc that sounds cool doesn't it |
s | yeah but yeah like also like storms in |
s | general I think roving storms is |
s | something that we would like to do |
s | anyway and so potentially we'll have |
s | something along those lines in maybe |
s | even in an existing biome at some point |
s | but yeah we need to do more with their |
s | weather patterns as be as and when we |
s | can sort of expand that system okay cool |
s | well on that note |
s | unfortunately we we are running out of |
s | time for this podcast because we want to |
s | keep it short and sweet and sassy and |
s | leave you wanting for more do you want |
s | to sign off thank you very much for |
s | listening to episode number 13 of the |
s | world's podcast if you'd like to get in |
s | touch with us you can go and do so on |
s | world's drift calm on Facebook at worlds |
