I think just taking away a game that people paid for is a bit scummy, seeing as the reason it can't continue development is because they tried it on too large of a scale. The game ran pretty well for an early access game it was just because the world was too massive, if you compressed it down to a smaller bit size game and got that running before you tried to make it huge it would be a lot more successful. So I think rather than just shutting it down they should just tone it down to smaller servers and worlds, focusing more on stability and content rather than being the biggest game. The premise of the game is already unique and awesome, they don't need to make it this massive mmo. It offers a one of a kind survival experience where you can lose everything but at least your base is different each time and logs out with you. Also what other game lets you Spiderman around a dead planet as awesome pirates.

TL;DR The game shouldn't be forgotten, it's unique and fun. I believe they should just move to a smaller scale and then see what happens. No one would have bought Minecraft if it was an mmo that wasn't playable in certain countries and at certain times of the day.

Heya,

Unlike our other games, Worlds's network is built on top of SpatialOS, a proprietary tech. Worlds does not run without it, nor can it be hosted outside of SpatialOS's infrastructure. It stops us from both making it P2P or allow anyone to host their own servers, unfortunately.

As the multiplayer is built so integrally into the game, its not a simple task to remove it. If you're wanting to just see beautiful islands in single player, we're keeping the island creator online.

I mostly want a sandbox to play with the ships and farm in even if it's single player because the world is fun to explore by itself. Is there any eta on how long it would take for a new singleplayer/small server version or whether it's even confirmed.

Not confirmed. We're investigating what is possible and what is not.
