I’ve had WA sitting in my steam library for nearly 2 years now, just waiting for some stable server performance or an Oceanic server as playing on EU or American servers is atrocious as an Australian player. Either hosted servers or single player options would have alleviated this if not solved it completely.

The free copy of either I am bread or surgeon simulator is also laughable. I picked up surgeon simulator during a steam sale at a price laughable compared to WA’s price, and a game where you control a piece of bread that sticks to walls in my opinion is nowhere near comparable to WA.

I’m annoyed I never got to experience WA in all its functional glory and never will now. I don’t know much about the upkeep and cost of multiplayer game designing, but surely keep the game on steam, shut down the online servers and it’s upkeep costs and give the tools to the players who love and invested in this game to create those experiences themselves. I’d take a buggy, half complete game over removing it completely and offering some pathetic consolidation prize any day of the year.

Heya, we're heartbroken too. To respond to some of your questions:
Give the tools to the players: We are leaving the island creator online for sure. For the rest of the game, Worlds Adrift is built with third-party tools, plugins and licensed code we cannot share or open source ourselves. Without these tools, the game doesn't run nor compile. Going over and removing all these instances is a huge undertaking we cannot commit to.
Worlds is built upon SpatialOS, a proprietary tech. Worlds does not run without it, and it cannot be hosted without SpatialOS's infrastructure. This requirement prevents us from making it P2P or allowing players to host their own servers.

Thank you very much for the response. Sorry for my ignorance, I would confirm myself if I wasn’t at work as I’ve never played the island creator, but from what I’ve read recently the island creator lacks the ship building element and other main game content (sorry if this is incorrect, I tried to google as much info as I could to sound less stupid but couldn’t find much info).

If this is the case, is Bossa Studios looking at transferring these elements into the island creator to create some semblance of the main game even in a restrictive state, or will the island creator simply remain an island creator?

We're trying to put as much as we can easily into the island creator. I've been told that the ship building is out of scope but that we might be able to get some of the smaller features ported over to start, and possibly more later on
