Hello, my friend and I just started playing and it seems that no matter what island we go to, all the chests are empty. Has someone already been there and looted it or do they sometimes spawn with nothing in them? There's a lot of chests just sitting beside each other and they're always empty.

If you see a few brown chests close together, it often implies that's where the gold chest will spawn. One of the more common drops from the gold chest is actually a chest item, so many players will simply place it and drop any duplicate schematics they have in there for the next player to use. Likewise, some players are hoarders and will take those duplicates even if they don't need them - which is why they're still frequently empty ;)
