| 119s | arrived at the settlement however and |
| 120s | the lamps that hung from every available |
| 122s | hook rope or corner help to keep the |
| 125s | darkness at bay |
| 126s | the lamps were astounding the locals use |
| 130s | simple dyes and special powders to color |
| 132s | the lighting elements so the entire |
| 134s | settlement was bathed in a multicolored |
| 135s | glow boom Khaled me to a gathering of |
| 138s | people around a bonfire and we sat and |
| 140s | watched the proceedings together I |
| 143s | assumed that Herrera used the myth of |
| 145s | the car key as a way of scaring the |
| 147s | children into behaving but the entire |
| 149s | community engages in the rituals meant |
| 151s | to keep it away with an almost |
| 152s | frightening earnestness even the oldest |

| 189s | ich natty car apparently creatures so |
| 192s | ferocious and dangerous that they are |
| 194s | the only things capable of killing the |
| 197s | kind it was at this point that the |
| 202s | lights began to dim I saw a shape |
| 205s | approaching from the darkness the |
| 207s | stories and songs began to fade away I |
| 210s | looked at UM kur for reassurance but she |
| 212s | had bowed her head and was whispering |
| 214s | something under her breath I have to |
| 217s | admit this whole thing was starting to |
| 218s | get everyone around me was bowing |

| 229s | it seemed humanoid in composition but |
| 231s | had great big red eyes imposing horns |

| 239s | naturally towards us not making a sound |
| 243s | my fear soon gave way to shame though as |
| 246s | I realized the shape was in fact a man |
| 249s | in a suit furry thick and with a |
| 252s | terrifying mask but a suit too |
| 254s | nonetheless |
| 255s | umka looked up at my face which had gone |
| 257s | quite pale and stifled a giggle |
| 260s | at this point the rest of the group |
| 262s | raised their heads and arms and began |
| 264s | chanting something I couldn't understand |
| 266s | the man in the suit danced around the |
| 268s | fire with strange jerking motions the |
| 271s | ceremonial suit is a representation of |
| 273s | an ax teak the idea is that 'no teak |
| 275s | terrify the kahi so hopefully the suit |
| 277s | will trick it into leaving the village |
| 278s | alone the light shone with fresh |
| 281s | brightness and the chants got louder and |
| 282s | more fervent a carafe was passed around |
| 285s | containing strong wine and don't |
| 287s | remember a great deal after that point |
| 290s | the next morning I woke in home cos |
| 292s | family hut under staff er of blank and |
| 294s | fur and blankets the warmth made it |
| 297s | difficult to emerge from under it but a |
| 299s | powerful first which overpowered my |
| 301s | comfort when I walked into the central |

| 306s | our nak were sitting by the fire staring |
| 308s | a part of something that smelled amazing |
| 310s | they turned to me with warm smiles not |

| 327s | exceptional and the blade was amongst |
| 329s | the sharpest I'd seen I still keep in a |
| 332s | drawer by my pet surely after EMKE |

| 337s | snow and mud on the rug she was dragging |
| 340s | a knapsack full to bursting with herbs |

| 344s | it seems she'd been out to the local |
| 346s | store house for some essentials she |
| 348s | accepted a bowl of stew from her parents |
| 350s | and we settled him to enjoy breakfast |

| 356s | our time relaxing in the warmth of the |

| 365s | strange thing about having no sunlight |
| 366s | is that there's no way to tell when one |
| 369s | day ends and another begins |
| 370s | time begins to lose meaning and it's |
| 372s | easy to become disorientated |
| 375s | after some period of time could have |
| 378s | been week maybe two my perception of |
| 381s | things started to warp the darkness |
| 383s | started to feel more immense and |
| 386s | oppressive the lights felt like there |
| 388s | was somehow less effective and how best |
| 391s | to describe it but the sky seemed to |
| 394s | throb and swell in the corner of my eye |
| 395s | it was during this period where stranger |
| 399s | things started to happen we received |
| 402s | word that some of the children in a |
| 404s | nearby community had gone missing |
