57s good stream last week yeah it's highly
63s in focus stream yeah but people seem to
69s really like the technical talk that
71s Silvan gave so ideally we'll be doing

134s anyway things are going well I I will do

159s okay well yeah it's a lot of it is bug
162s fixes and performance improvements which
163s is great so I understand that some
167s people out there have noticed that there
169s are one or two performance issues on
171s 27th oh yeah I saw that on every 4th
174s communication we have that's it yeah
176s yeah I woke up in the morning and it was
178s just painted on my wall yeah there's
183s been some issues with that stuff which
184s we are working on have worked on so 28
188s should have a bunch of improvements to
190s that stuff some but not all not all more
193s down the line I think it's gonna be
196s noticeable though I mean we we have
198s definitely heard the feedback from
199s people of being very upset about this I
204s really do want more feedback because I
206s want to keep hearing from our community
207s but I don't want people to think that we
209s don't care and hopefully they see like
212s we worked as quickly as we possibly
213s could after 27 to address on these
215s issues what was weird really weird is
218s that we weren't seeing almost any of
220s this stuff in the studio and we weren't
222s even seeing a lot of it on the pts so
225s something must have happened well we've
227s learned some lessons about how to test
229s around this stuff to do with because
231s obviously there are certain things that
233s you know being in being in Britain we
237s see different leads of people who are in
238s other parts of the world even though the
240s servers are in America there are still
242s sort of we are very generally high speed
244s internet here in the office so we have
245s to sort of manually throttle things to
248s test low speeds and latency and that
250s kind of thing so we've been putting some
253s work into improving how way were the
255s test that kind of stuff on the flip side
256s we didn't have somebody was running
258s faster
259s to cancel my issues with some beefy
263s computers I think people within the
268s community know a fella named atratus who
270s comes here kept telling us that his
274s frame rate was was terrible and it
276s turned out that this pc was way too
279s strong compared to our pcs in the office
283s we've got one compared to that so yeah
287s that was a little awkward so we're gonna
289s take a look at upgrading some of our
290s equipment realizing now that it we
292s didn't really think having two good
293s equipment could be an issue but yeah we
296s try to have quite a sort of even spread
298s of different equipment types in QA so
302s there's you know a range from from
303s really quite low and some reasonably
306s high-end machines there but yeah I mean
307s you certainly we've never we've never
312s tried to have this almost
313s balls-to-the-wall
314s break for QA because usually that you
317s know things run best on those sorts of
319s machines so what we'll do is we'll get
320s you know to 2080s
324s we'll sling them in there a couple of I
328s 9s yes got two processes why not no yeah
330s it's very CPU heavy game 300 gigabytes
332s of RAM yeah I mean and maybe like a
336s power supply that runs off of source 2
341s yet want to send us your cells will use
346s those to power a new suite gaming rig we
349s also were we were gonna water cool it
350s but we just figured forget it this is
352s thrown in a pool yes and that way it's
355s all water weight it could be one of
356s those ones this in a fish tank lightest
360s tech tips today okay that's that's
363s really cool so unnecessary but really
365s cool well think about it think about the
367s benchmarks the sweet sweet benchmarks
369s you kick off that yeah but you wouldn't
370s to sit on a bench if it was under all
372s that oil can you imagine getting a crack

424s Halloween is around the corner
426s oh that's right happy when I came out to
429s England I didn't realize that people
431s outside of America really celebrated

433s in the same way you guys know that's one

437s to be honest my Italian none I used to
439s get very annoyed their Halloween though
440s you're telling none none now is that
443s Grandma I mean is grandma okay yeah cool
445s she used to get she was absolutely
447s feeling about because she's less
448s religious festival right shouldn't be
451s about costumes and ghosts and all this
453s pagan stuff oh you're very upset what it
456s all the time what else is it well it's a
458s it's a festival that celebrates the the
461s people who've died and in the next life
465s Oh like Day of the Dead style yeah
468s Dia de los Muertos which is another sort
470s of compromised religious right yeah
472s which is sort of been cool compromised
474s compromised yeah no I mean there are
478s people out there who you know celebrate
480s it and it's it's all folklorist thing
481s that's become there isn't it well I
483s wouldn't say it's compromised it's it's
484s actually to two religions have evolved
488s into one I'm gonna say compromise what I

493s sort of holistic overtones there's a
496s picture from the Mexican government to

501s publicize it more to make it more of a

532s yeah tell me about the lag I mean we
535s just I mean I sort of already said it we
537s are hearing you guys we are I mean I'm
539s sorry I don't know I can't speak right
541s but I'm sorry that you guys are Devin to
542s deal with this excuse me personally do
545s the logins yeah I just added 500
547s milliseconds of latency to somebody's
549s choice to do anything yeah sometimes in
552s design you just try stuff out see if it
553s works that's true yeah no that's for you
556s but yeah you about to raid YouTube with
559s upset comments that's not what happened
561s we made a mistake in not testing it in
564s all the ways we could have I guess and
566s release something that we needed to
568s double back on and fix and we've now
570s done so unfortunately it was it
573s coincided with our big push to get new
575s players into the game so I think a lot
576s of people who tried it out the first
578s time gods the game and were like this
580s just isn't ready to play yet and on the
583s you know one of the nice things has come
586s out of this is we've seen even in the
588s negative reviews that we've received
589s we've seen a lot of people saying this
592s is a really cool idea for a game I
593s really like what's going on here but you
596s know I can't it doesn't run right now my
598s PC that sort of thing but it's nice to
600s have that people clearly see the vision
603s they clearly see that it's it's good
605s it's worth playing yeah we want to make
608s it they were very like a lot of the
611s negative reviews were quite positive and
615s the positive reviews were like reviews
620s were mixed both review both types of
626s reviews aware we're always like it's an
629s awesome it's an awesome concept love it
631s to bits for some people that would run
633s smoother and like and both types of
635s reviews would acknowledge as Kay there's
636s like right now and as we discussed on
640s the stream last week we've broken down
645s the different types of lag and oh yeah
648s that's right did we do a write up about
649s that yes we did and it was published in
652s the tech Tuesday awesome which is today
655s instantly so talking I'm talking about
656s right now yes
660s yeah so that's gonna be really helpful
662s for people trying to continue to report
664s different lag things right because
665s they're gonna be able to figure out
666s what's every words we need to hear
669s exactly everybody's been using lag as an
671s umbrella term and that's that kinda
673s doesn't really help us in a you know in
677s in in forms of a complaint
679s well it's laggy we how what exactly are
683s you saying because it helps us to
684s pinpoint yeah where to actually be
686s looking for the issues because you know
688s there's so many things that can cause
690s the thing that appears to be lag you
694s know the thing that that resembles in
695s every way lag that you would expect come
697s from one source might come from a
699s different source so like a couple of the
701s examples that solving gave on the stream
704s where so chests not being alright like
706s inventory taking a few seconds to
708s respond is one type of lag stuttering
711s within the world is another type of lag
713s and a K or a latency and then
718s client-side like is anything your
720s character is experiencing directly so
722s when your screen your view isn't turning
726s great and they all have solutions but
729s they're all different solutions and we
731s need to implement all those solutions
732s and investigate them separately so we
735s have more about that in the blog post or
738s you can re-watch the stream which is
740s hella informative we also discuss NPCs
744s and different creatures and how that
746s works because sylvain is actually from
751s his his background as npc design for
753s what Rossella yeah yeah a couple of
755s things - yeah worked on some really cool
757s peers who worked on black which is a bit
759s yeah not the most well known title but
762s one of the most well respected title is
764s that as such it was such a good shooter
766s yeah yeah it's the most sort of solid
768s especially for the time there's the most
770s sort of solid like tight feeling sheet
771s or they'd ever been I think I wonder
773s where there wasn't a sequel I'd I maybe

874s happened was it was gonna do this whole
878s thing with getting a new home and then
880s deal fell through now to think that
884s we're not paying no I have enough money
889s to buy a to buy a flat actually to buy

892s and so I'm trying to do that and they
895s sway let me well if there's one thing
900s that the people at home should take away
902s from this is that the that the law that
905s we have for buying properties in this
907s country is a mess so yeah basically no
911s weapon was the seller wanted to sell it
912s to me I wanted to buy it but there's a
914s guy who owns the walls called a
916s freeholder and he didn't want to do
919s anything about it he'd written some bad
921s paperwork so it was a bad idea to buy
925s trees
927s yes a Halloween is its gonna introduce a
932s couple new things it's one of our it
936s says it's a seasonal update it's it's
938s not meant to add in any huge new
940s features but one of the coolest things
941s going into it is we've added a new
944s recipe for cooking called the witch's
947s brew which you can craft of let's see if
950s I can remember
951s I think it's bear koi spices nor
954s conductive tissue neural something it
957s brains some sort of plant some sort of
960s brains right in and worms cool I
964s shouldn't have done this because my
966s camera what it actually is pumpkin maybe
968s - I don't remember
973s ratting pumpkins in and we're adding the
976s jack-o'-lantern yes a new ship part
978s where you can it's essentially like a
981s lamp but it's shaped like a
981s jack-o'-lantern also side note we tested
984s this out of the studio if you attached
986s Atlas lifters to the jack-o'-lanterns
988s it's the spookiest thing in the entire
989s game so doing that floods the caves with
992s them yeah make the game lag even worse
994s that's the cool thing though is the wall
999s I think one of the cool things is the
1001s witches brew which if you craft and
1003s drink it it changes some of the sound
1006s effects in the game for the duration of
1008s the of the buff so it lasts for about
1010s six minutes and I don't really want to
1013s say too much but hopefully people six
1017s minutes spooktacular and I hope people
1022s find it cool because it really what it
1024s was is for for us is a test to see if we
1026s can do things like that work we
1028s dynamically change some of the audio
1030s based on buffs and other things and do
1033s it worked that's really cool that you
1035s mentioned that because I'm pretty sure
1036s that there will be someone out there
1038s who's like but why are you fixing the
1039s thing yeah like it's it's a seasonal
1043s it's a seasonal little feature but it's
1045s also a learning curve for us of like
1049s what we can or cannot do with certain
1051s features right also a future we are
1053s including a ton of fixes in this update
1055s the whole even more so for 29 yeah but
1058s for 28 we have all the holo
1060s stuff plus all these fixes so fixes were
1062s the main focus up we've done in terms of
1064s the you know the items they're all
1065s reasonably quick and simple to do yeah
1068s so you know you've been working hard on
1070s it but it hasn't taken up a huge amount
1071s of code resource away from the
1074s optimizations our audio guy wasn't going
1076s to be doing a lot of fixing for
1077s optimization so we had a free resource -
1080s yeah I mean which once again today but
1082s you know what speaking of Ali just
1089s yesterday I was with Ali doing some
1091s recording for our
1092s marauder guitar I'm not going to say too
1094s much but I'm going to say that it
1096s absolutely rips rock super oh it's gonna
1101s sound good so when players played in the
1104s game they're gonna hear your anyway okay
1106s yes they will yeah though here my power
1109s cord
1109s this is loud loud power cords a little
1112s piece and you know what the guitar
1114s you're gonna hear is either going to be
1115s the Epiphone Nighthawk with a custom
1118s hand round bridge pickup or it's going
1120s to be a 1979 Yamaha Superfly tur 1000
1125s well that's not a Stratocaster no it's
1128s not it's a Yamaha super flight a 1000
1131s Superfly tur
1132s it's as if this game is about flying
1134s almost yeah it sounds like Harry
1136s Potter's first broomstick it does -
1138s think it's a rad as hell guitar older
1142s than me oh that's pretty cool
1144s Ally's got it down in the studio that's
1146s mine oh but it's my fuse you own it but
1149s it's all of the new yeah I didn't buy a
1151s new that's gone for Halloween and for
1160s the is there anything else going in for
1162s Halloween there's a couple of things
1165s yeah I mean the pumpkins the
1166s jack-o'-lantern we're adding another new
1168s food recipe that allows you to it's
1171s called pumpkin curry and allows you to
1173s delicious run faster and jump higher
1176s it's the first buff that we're putting
1178s into the game it has a dual effect it's
1180s actually totally o-p-s but it's a it's a
1183s Halloween only thing so something to
1186s mention with this update is we're at a
1189s certain point we're gonna shut off the
1191s Halloween items
1192s so those are seasonal right that's see
1194s that's the word I was looking for so
1197s those who can gather them now fantastic
1200s if you get a schematic for a Halloween
1202s item it will stay with you after we shut
1206s them off from the loot tables going
1207s forward but at a certain point you won't
1209s be able to loot them anymore so so hold
1211s those pumpkins if you can also use them
1214s think about this right you make a
1215s jack-o-lantern right somebody damages
1217s your jack-o'-lantern you need pumpkin to
1219s repair don't think the birds that is how
1229s it work have you tried that imagine this
1239s thing where you have like this sort of
1240s you know you extract a pumpkin from this
1243s thing and then you're like enjoy this
1245s battered one to go back to your home
1248s pumpkin yeah okay so yeah that's some of
1253s the cool stuff it's going there's also a
1254s new clothing item called the horns of
1257s olk it's creepy as heck it is creepy as
1260s it doesn't look like you're about to
1262s sacrifice a human I want to say is
1265s people hiding in dark places wearing
1267s this mask went yeah it's a view the eyes
1270s well I don't see too much but he talked
1273s about the eyes in the game see if you
1275s can find this schematic will drop as
1277s well as the actual item itself but if
1278s you get this schematic that means you
1280s can dye the cloth that is associated
1282s with it and which is a great segue into
1286s saying that there's also a new dye color
1288s pumpkin to orange that'll be found in
1291s loot ruins loot chests and luke
1293s containers for a limited time only and
1296s then after the holy an update I think
1297s we'll just take out the no just your
1300s it's it's a finite resource
1302s yeah right oh it should probably say we
1304s did I just took that in the Marauder
1305s guitar that's not coming in for 28 right

1325s what are the things that are ready or
1328s not ready what are the things that are
1330s going into 29 because we're still kind
1332s of working with that you're not feature
1333s locked yet no and won't be for a while
1336s so there's stuff that can still go in we
1338s just today finalized a list of all the
1341s features that we're putting over 29 I
1342s don't think we should say them no I mean
1345s because the thing is it's a list of all
1347s the things we're gonna try and get in
1348s for 29 right some of them are quite big
1350s some of them are small so it's safe to
1352s say that some of the smaller stuff will
1353s get in but it's hard to you know to know
1356s exactly what we're gonna get done
1358s basically we've just laid down this list
1360s and we're just gonna get as much of it
1362s as we can right we have three weeks so
1365s we're going to do as much as we can in
1366s three weeks and then we're gonna have to
1369s feature lock and are see it and test it
1372s test the hell out of it so yeah do as
1375s much as we can try to add some cool new
1376s stuff and we've got a pretty good plan
1378s but yeah we can't can't share specifics
1381s of it quite yet I can tell you that
1384s players are gonna be thrilled and I can
1387s also tell you about during if that's
1400s that's handed the dance there's one
1407s other thing I should mention there will
1409s not be a wipe for Twentynine yeah as far
1412s as we're aware right now there's no
1413s reason to do so yeah so we will not be
1415s wiping anytime soon hear that that's the
1419s crowds cheering yeah right hopefully yes
1424s that's what's going up for tonight yeah
1427s yeah I'm working on some some cool stuff
1430s for that and some medium stuff for that
1433s and so exciting yeah all that's bad for
1436s you guys yeah I tell you what actually
1438s there's one thing that um that could be
1441s useful for you guys for something I'm
1444s working on at the moment if you guys
1445s have any titles of books that you really
1448s like just like you know anything I
1451s thought just yeah leave them in the
1453s comments or even tweet them at me write
1454s my twitter handle be in the car I know
1456s one that I
1457s like vic viper RX mods and a couple of
1461s other community members are big fans off
1463s yeah what's that the storm light series
1465s the storm light series it's it's very
1467s apt for a world of drift actually okay
1469s yeah just because I'm doing some stuff
1471s that it requires sort of a bunch of semi
1474s generic book titles that say I'm not
1478s gonna be more specific than that but
1479s just sort of if there's any crowdfunding
1481s or crowdfunding crowdsourcing I could
1483s get for Ender's Game
1484s and this game cool okay Game of Thrones
1490s yes awesome
1493s that is pretty thrilling alright yeah
1498s yeah so should we move on to some
1500s questions from the community yeah yeah
1502s so the first one hears from negative
1504s ions it says what about doors where are
1506s the doors that we were shown in the
1508s Marauders cartoon yeah man a winky face
1511s yeah you guys folks at home can't see it
1513s but we're all winking right now you
1519s maybe you can't but I'm winking at the
1521s microphone anyway yeah so this is yeah
1526s we want to add doors to the game for
1527s sure but yeah I don't know maybe we
1531s shouldn't put that in the trailer
1533s people got most excited by this maybe
1536s weeds fire sized doors a little bit more
1537s yeah why they focus on that but maybe
1541s balls first or destructible ship frames
1546s or windows there's so many things in the
1551s trailer control they immediately I was
1554s there during the stream and people were
1555s immediately going bananas for doors yeah
1558s so it's not just the doors it the trap
1560s doors like the doors are some
1564s interesting there's a piece of law
1565s that's gonna go in about doors that it's
1569s not about doors but it is about
1571s intercepts and traps in it so I wonder
1574s if maybe we can get some of the traps
1575s that are in that law and see if we can
1577s figure out a way of implementing some of
1578s them at some point I don't know be
1579s exciting but know this this it's very
1583s interesting that isn't it yes just like
1585s the things that people won you can't
1586s necessarily predict water indoors or
1589s indoors here
1590s the there's a really good article about
1593s implementing doors and using doors as a
1596s this finally England is it
1598s I don't remember whose favorite those we
1600s put that video resource in the class
1601s okay should link to that as well yeah
1603s all right yeah it's it's a fascinating
1605s piece this was one that puts uses doors
1608s to describe every game developers title
1611s and job role that's them that's the one
1612s and then there's another one that talks
1614s about why doors are so complicated which
1618s isn't to say well do them but it's it's
1619s kind of a hilarious piece to think of
1621s like it's just a door hoping that closes
1622s why is that so hard yeah I mean don't we
1624s have island doors I suppose it would be
1626s everything is 50 times more difficult on
1629s a floating ship yeah there's my answer
1633s but the doors that we have on Islands
1635s there's no interaction with them
1637s necessarily that is open when people are
1639s near them so we could it's easy to do so
1641s my bad there needs to do something you
1642s have to interact with you know you go
1645s yeah that's the answer your question
1647s negative ions they're common there's
1651s quite a long one next-gen say initially

1659s furred you're a great reader can you do
1661s this the whole okay yeah here's another
1664s question for you what are your thoughts
1665s on bouncing ship speed weight and armor
1667s are there any plans for this what I mean
1669s is some have suggested in the feedback
1671s forum that a small ship with a few good
1673s engines should be faster than a heavy 20
1675s engine monstrosity there isn't much of a
1677s benefit currently to building big
1679s heavily armored ships because there
1680s isn't much get to gain in protection and
1682s it's not worth sacrificing with the
1684s speed they also isn't much of a costs
1686s are loading up tons of engines on
1688s nothing but a large frame thanks in
1690s large part to indestructible frames this
1692s is some of the reason why medium-sized
1694s box ships with minimum amount of
1695s paneling and the mass amount of engines
1697s is the current mess of a PvP it wins on
1698s all fronts protection maneuverability
1700s speed and firepower
1701s one of the ideas I saw involved giving
1703s pounds of boosting resilience for every
1705s other panel place next to it thus making
1708s a ship's Armour more interconnected once
1710s destructible flames frames are
1712s implemented detectable flames would be X
1713s and it's not always asking several
1716s frames are implemented this could also
1717s be incorporated and have a beat brave a
1719s play on this two more panels equals a
1721s bigger boost to frame resilience credit
1723s goes
1723s to @l whoops the idea for scaling ship
1726s size and armor yeah I took a look at
1730s this question before the podcast started
1731s and I was thinking about for a little
1733s bit and I don't think that the
1735s interconnected panels actually goes that
1738s far of a way balancing speed weight and
1742s armor it is a nice way to increase armor
1745s and is an interesting interaction but I
1747s don't think it will actually prevent
1748s players from continuing along the path
1750s that they're on I was still trying to
1752s make the fastest ship possible and
1754s because of how we calculate speed which
1756s is all physics based the more thrust
1759s you're producing the more speed you can
1761s get out of something that's similar
1763s weight to something that has hundreds
1767s it's just how it is right now how we're
1771s planning on balancing that in sort of a
1774s more roundabout way is with parts of
1776s overheat so if you have a ton of engines
1779s and they can't all be burning fast all
1784s the time you'll have to manage your heat
1786s and therefore even the fastest ships
1788s will have to slow down and and figure
1791s out how to best manage their heat and
1795s then after that is proximity heat which
1798s is if you have a bunch of engines on
1801s your ship and they're all so close to
1803s each other that they are radiating heat
1805s to each other they're gonna heat up
1806s faster than engines that are further
1808s apart and that on its own I think is
1811s going to change the ship met in a big
1812s way the the armor and the resilience and
1816s the panels and that not being a big
1817s boost and not being not feeling like
1820s there's a reason to build super heavy
1822s ships I think is I think there's two
1826s things there number one is sort of
1828s player preference I know that there are
1830s players who do play with big ships it's
1832s the players who want to min/max you know
1835s all of those speed think about so we get
1837s and all the resilience and all that
1838s stuff that choose to go the the
1840s mid-range box routes but there are
1841s definitely players who maybe they have a
1844s big crew and they want everybody have a
1846s role and they want to be able to fit a
1848s lot of booty in it they get over to the
1851s big ship and I don't know why I said I
1854s they get really big ship and they use
1856s that to fight and it's not that it
1857s doesn't work it's just a bigger target
1859s so the other thing that leads me into
1862s number two is that a smaller ship is
1864s harder to hit so as we move forward with
1867s some of the ideas that we have for
1868s combat which to be honest we haven't
1870s really talked that much about on the
1872s podcast things like I'm just gonna throw
1875s an example out here when it comes in
1877s it'll be big but I'm not I can't promise
1879s it'll come in any time particularly soon
1881s but the idea of being able to put
1882s harpoons on your ship connect to another
1885s ship and slow them down or drag them in
1887s that would be a much easier process if
1890s they are a lighter ship if they are yeah
1894s if there are a lot of ship that means
1895s you can drive them in a lot easier so by
1897s having a heavier ship you then combat
1899s the inherently combat the harpoons
1902s there's a lot of different factors that
1904s we can put into here to try and balance
1906s it out it's definitely something that
1907s that I in particular I'm trying to do
1909s and the design team as a whole has been
1911s talking about we're taking one step at a
1914s time and we are aware that everything
1916s that we change with ships sort of throws
1920s a big you know anything would change
1921s those a big spanner in the wrench and
1923s the workings who would can't talk the
1925s big spanner into the workings of
1928s currently active players and people who
1930s have spent so much of their time trying
1932s to figure out how ships work and our
1934s engines are calculating all that stuff
1935s so we want to be delicate with it we
1937s don't want to add everything in all at
1938s once we want to go slowly but it is
1940s something that we want to address and
1941s the interlock panel idea is interesting
1944s but I don't actually think it'll go that
1946s far to finding that right balance I hope
1949s that answers your question and if you
