Hello everyone!

Now that we've settled back into business as usual, it’s time to take a look ahead – and behind.

What's next? Next up in Barotrauma's development is a Halloween update, a compactly sized content update. You should expect to see it pretty soon, and we'll write more about it once it's out!

After that, we plot a course toward...

The next major update We've got one more big content update planned for this year, and it's going to include some highly wishlisted additions, including but not limited to the environment overhaul, ballast flora and new mission types. This update will round off the major developments we've made this year, with the ... Read more

Hello everyone! Before we get to the customary Halloween update, we wanted to write a little bit about bigger things – about what to expect from the near future, and about how we already have a mind-boggling five years of development behind us. Wait, what? Yes, that’s right – tomorrow marks exactly five years since I released the first public build for what was then called Subsurface and these...

I am deleting comments that contain insults, regardless of whether they're for or against the original post, and locking the topic. This is not because the topic itself is wrong, but because the conversation hasn't yielded meaningful new content for a while and because there are a number of replies that are not in keeping with rule number 1 of this subreddit.

Please be nice to each other, whatever you think of the game, griefers, metagaming bad captains, or life in general! :)

Hello! To clarify, Barotrauma's normal price on Steam has never been raised, or lowered; it has stayed exactly the same the whole time we have been available for purchase, expressly to avoid posts like this one :) As for what kinds of prices you may have seen at key resellers, I will not comment on, because we have no control over that.

Please edit or delete this post to avoid spreading misleading information!

You can also see our price history e.g. on SteamDB: https://steamdb.info/app/602960/

[edited post to add missing apostrophe in first sentence and to include SteamDB link]

This is simply not true, the base price has always been 24.99€. The 14.99€ you mentioned was the price during the previous sale (-40 % off).

Hi! Unfortunately, we can't do a lot to improve the situation, at least for the time being. The ping you see in the server browser is an estimate, and it's not always accurate because of how SteamP2P uses intermediary servers to connect clients to servers. This was a necessary step to add to bypass the need for players to forward ports manually, and changing it further would not be a trivial task. We'll monitor the situation though, and our schedule permitting, we can look into developing this further at some point.

Hello everyone!

We’ve now released a minor update to address issues in the New Frontiers update and to bring new downtime activities to Europan submariners – some purely optional fun and games to balance the darkness of the ocean (and to keep idle hands from messing with the boat’s wires unnecessarily), and perhaps to yield some moderate rewards, too.

For now, the new activities we’ve added are limited to gardening[trello.com] and cleaning[trello.com], but if these prove a hit, there are more... Read more

Hello everyone!

We’re happy to tell you the whole team has finished their summer holidays and we’re now all back at work on Barotrauma’s next update. It’s going to be a fairly small update, with a focus on fixing bugs and other issues, but it will also bring a couple of new additions to the game. The update is scheduled for release later this month; more details a little later!

Our guides have moved We decided to move our official guides and last year’s Halloween mod under our new official studio account. Here are links so you can find the guides in their new locations!

We’re now all back from our summer holidays and getting ready to release a bugfix patch / minor update – we’re sorry we were not able to hotfix the biggest problems out of the New Frontiers update sooner, but you’ll get those fixes in this update, along with a couple of new things that we’re hoping you’ll have fun with! [WIP!] A sneak peek into a new feature...

How is sub price calculated? Trying to figure out why it's not letting me change the price on a scout sub to be below 5800 Mks when the other scout subs are roughly in the sub 2k range.

Hi! The price is calculated as a function of hull size and number of items on the sub, and I'm not sure the class actually figures into it at all. The lower-price subs are intended to have their limitations in these terms. I hope this helps!

Thank you for the feedback! We were well aware that both of these changes would not be liked by all of the players. However, griefing is still a big issue on most servers, and we feel the small nerf to weapon damage was all-in-all a positive change, despite making the game a little less realistic. And I would argue that we're still long way from CoD protagonists who can shrug off a ton of gunshot wounds - if you get shot, you're still very likely to die if you don't get treated quickly.

Not having to worry about bots running out of battery was actually just one of the reasons why we removed the battery consumption. In my view the most important reason was that the feature was confusing to new players: usually they wouldn't know they need to watch the battery before it runs out, and once it did run out, many players would think the game was bugged when they noticed they can't communicate with others or give orders to the bots. I also feel it didn't really add that much to th...
