Server logs are making so no one actually needs to know how to repair their sub, and the past few updates have made this problem even worse. I spent a lot of time learning how to grief just so I could run a smooth campaign without resorting to banning people for clowning around. This works great when I'm hosting but seemingly every other host will immediately bring up the logs just to ban whoever is being a nuisance. Just this last update even made changing component values visible in the logs completely ruining any chance of griefing for engineers, without receiving a ban 99% of the time. (brig if you're lucky, but that doesn't make it any less cheap)

Seriously, the over reliance of server logs is completely ruining the spirit of the game for me. It's a massive crutch for bad captains/lazy security guards and is making this game way too easy for people with 0 interest in the mechanics of how their sub operates. Someone rewiring things is already easy enough to spot, and any half decent player can run a pub game from start to finish, fixing whatever disaster a griefer cooks up on the fly. Playing as captain used to require you to rely on your perception and authority to command a successful mission, let alone a whole campaign. Now the game can be easily beaten by the most antisocial noob captain with the ability to Deus Ex Machina themselves out of any situation, with little to no effort. I can't be the only person who spent hours learning how a sub works or how to properly handle a crew, only for these abilities be made obsolete by devs who treat the griefing aspect of this game as if it were an unintended feature. This meta gaming stuff is bullsh*t and is constantly abused by angry, controlling players who act emasculated at the slightest thought of roleplaying with one of their crew. Security need not apply. I feel as if the devs are focusing too much on negative reviews from people who've played maybe ~20 minutes and cite the griefers as their main issue, but ignore the positive reviews that often praise it for the same. Regardless, am I in the minority here, or does anyone else feel this way?

tl;dr Either remove the server log altogether or make it only accessible through cheats, so decent captains can once again stand out from the rest.

EDIT: thx fat r------d mods for locking this thread

This topic is very close to becoming circular arguing for the sake of arguing; if that happens, or if the conversation devolves into insults or name calling, I am unfortunately going to have to start deleting posts. I would rather not do that, so please remain civil at all times!

I am deleting comments that contain insults, regardless of whether they're for or against the original post, and locking the topic. This is not because the topic itself is wrong, but because the conversation hasn't yielded meaningful new content for a while and because there are a number of replies that are not in keeping with rule number 1 of this subreddit.

Please be nice to each other, whatever you think of the game, griefers, metagaming bad captains, or life in general! :)
