This is significant. The respawn timer for wasteland zombies was eliminated, as part of an ongoing effort to make it a higher risk, higher reward environment. So they’re not going to stop coming until you leave, they stop detecting you, or they time out.

I assume that's directed towards my post since I mentioned risk & reward. The operative part was "ongoing process". What we're playing now is missing some ingredients: importantly, a feature where biome affects gamestage.

That may be, but when I stop to compare the two, I think it’s significant that the player volunteers to accept the mission, and goes out to the wasteland where the endless zombies are, at a time of their own choosing. That feels different to me than the Blood Moon, where the zombies come to you, on their schedule, whether you’re prepared or not.
