My primary is usually bow/crossbow until later stage bloodmoons. Then I'll switch to the m60 and a sledge.

Fist weapons. Landslide victory. Sniper rifles are a close second.

Do you think the M60 chews up the 7.62's more compared to the ak47(?). I normally switch to my ak for horde nights but also mulling over a change to the M60.
Depends entirely on how you use it. But generally speaking, yes, the M60 will chew through ammo waaaaaay faster if you let it. It's much harder to aim for the head with it because it doesn't have a true ADS like the AK. It's more of a spray and pray gun. It also can't recieve a semi-auto mod, so it's pretty easy to mistakenly fire two rounds instead of one due to the fire rate.

It's all about how you handle the trigger. Don't lay on the lead, and you can pop off headshots easy only using one or two rounds per. Then if the need comes for "spray and pray" you don't have a delay swapping weapons. It might not be quite as accurate as the AK, but it's not that far off either if you aren't just holding down the trigger.
Utilize the weapon mod system to your advantage. :)
