infact, are you a dev trying to get people to spill the beans?!
This paranoia suggests a lack of faith in the developers - that they are motivated primarily by insuring the player always loses. They're not! The devs are interested in providing fun, if for no greater reason than that fun sells. To my mind that means insuring the gameplay is engaging, challenging, and balanced.
Case in point, I was going to suggest that the OP could invest in Robotics, because that hadn't been mentioned yet in this thread. One can set up one or more robotic sledges to push zombies off a ledge or into a pit. I guess I'll spoiler tag that, for players that want to figure it out organically.
Why do you think the developers added the robotic sledge? Do you think they never thought about how it could be used for base defense? Are you just hoping it never occurs to them it could be part of a good design? Fearful that they're one read post or watched stream away from realizing it's cool, and taking away our toy?
The sentiment is misguided. Most any tactic can 'work' in the sense that it damages, slows, misdirects etc. the zombies, without having to 'work' in the sense that the player is totally safe. The former can be engaging, challenging, balanced... fun. The latter isn't any of those things, and is game breaking.
