I’m more of a builder than a miner. And when I’m base building, I want to precisely remove every existing block that I don’t want, and preserve the full HP of every block that remains.
With the auger’s high fire rate, it’s more like you flip it on and then find something to hit. I find myself constantly damaging the block behind the one I just destroyed, and I don’t like that. So I tap the trigger, effectively making it ‘semi-auto,’ so as to not overshoot the current block.
The result is, it’s not as fast as a legendary pickaxe at that point. Or at least, I don’t perceive it to be as fast. So I stick to my trusty quality 6 steel pickaxe, which for my current character build I’ve worked out takes me 5 power attacks + 2 regular attacks per concrete block. I’ve gotten used to that rhythm, and I can maintain it for most building tasks without getting winded, without gas and with few screamers.
