A ♥♥♥♥♥♥ poem:
I labor for 30 hours of my life building a cute lil underground base, stocking up materials, having a good time.
I log out to sleep
I log in to see a sunny sky- How strange.
Then, I look around...
My base, obliterated by rockets- just a smoking hole in the ground now, all materials gone to the pockets of those responsible.
Never again.

Other respondents put it well. I play lots of Left 4 Dead 2 in Versus mode, so PvP isn’t outside the norm for me. But from everything I’ve seen, ‘player versus player’ in this game amounts to player versus other player’s base. E.g. breaking into their base and stealing their stuff, and mostly while they’re offline. And because of how the game is structured - not in rounds and matches but as a RPG with a voxel world you build up block by block - the stuff you’re sabotaging can be the result of many hours of acquiring resources, crafting, building, etc. It’s not like [pick your favorite multiplayer shooter], where if your character dies they’re back on the battlefield in seconds with everything they need to rejoin the fight effectively. The stakes are much higher, unless you’re willing to abandon looting and building and other things that make the game what it is.
