I recently returned to this game after some time off (about a year).  I started noticing the error "Failed to synchronize cloud saves". After several retries, it would let me in. However, the problem has gotten much worst the last two days. The error just keeps occurring when launching from GeForce Experience and stops me from launching the game. To get around this i had to disable Cloud Sync in UbiSoft connect.

Id like to understand what is happening here and how to resolve
-Is this because i stopped playing for a year?
-Was this perhaps related to the recent announcement by UbiSoft with regards to server support for older games?
-What is the recommended solution for this issue? or should i just rely on local saves going forth?

Welcome back from your break; I'm sorry it's not the best welcome back to run into this "Failed to synchronize cloud saves" error but we'll see if we can get this sorted out for you.

It shouldn't have anything to do with either your time away or the recent announcement.

Can you tell me if the issue persists if you run Ubisoft Connect as Admin and then launch from there? Also, what happens if you reenable Cloud Synchronization now?
