[2021] This game is rapidly descending into the point of being unplayable!

I constantly have to keep reloading the game because it will randomly decide that it no longer knows how to save and the only fix is to reboot. Sometimes I have to reboot multiple times because upon rebooting it will randomly forget that it has any save data at all and it needs rebooting to find that.

Last night I was doing the way of the berserker. I got the nightshade, and was heading to the hanging tree... I saved and quit just before handing it to him. I've loaded up this morning and he's there with his white bear under the tree... However the quest is gone, the quest marker is gone, there is no way to talk to him. I have rebooted several times and the quest is still gone. Lost my game once entirely, but rebooting brought that back...still no quest. I've loaded previous saves and still no quests. I even went back to before starting the quest to try and read the letter again....NO LETTER. So what do I do? How can I make the quest come back? I've been messing for over an hour now and I've not even played the game yet today!
