As pointed out by bubbursty, we did announce that this was a time limited DLC
right from the get-go :)

As for the reasoning, it is quite easy. This DLC was created to support Ecologi, a social enterprise that plants trees around the world. Ubisoft pledged to
forward the money we ourselves make on sales of this DLC to Ecologi.

Ubisoft operates across dozens of countries, currencies, and platforms, so this suport of Ecologi entails a huge administrative and accounting effort, which is why we had to put a time limit on this offer (for which we picked the end of Ubisoft’s financial year).

Limiting such supportive offers to a certain time frame is quite normal and most companies (Blizzard, Epic, Riot etc.) do it, for the above reason.

Thanks, I didn't read that. But I still think it's strange because the developers made the effort to create new gameplay.

There's no gameplay attached to this DLC - it's "only" a tree ornament.

The "Eden Burning" scenario is and stays free for everyone to play.

Hey, thank you for the background on this!

It always appeared odd to me that companies would put the work into making something and then cut it off for (seemingly) no reason, especially for digital products that keep existing once they're created.

I'm still not sure if I like the concept of time-limited things, but your reply does add "method to the madness", in a way :)

No worries, though, as the ornament will be added for free for everyone with an update at the end of 2022. --Anno Union

Oh cool! Great news all around, I'm patient and looking forward to it (and now have zero reason to complain about time limited things haha).

Cheers!

Happy to help :)
