Hi all,

Playing the scenarios, I noticed in the Clash of Couriers that the Journalero's don't need fried plantains like in the base game, but just plantains on their own. And it got me thinking, what if you could deliberately set up citizen needs to have as many or as few items as you wanted (within reason)?

I went through Nexus Mods but couldn't quite see anything that does this, so if I've missed the obvious somewhere I'd love to know.

That said, I think the customisation should have limits. The game has its own balance systems in mind (let's ignore Docklands for a minute) and it seems like a good idea that the only thing you get to customise is the goods that go in needs/happiness/lifestyle. As for the citizen/income impact, I think that would be best left static, that you can't customise, otherwise the game would be unplayable almost immediately if you leave it to a player to decide. If the devs, or a modder that's very bored and likes my idea, use an excel sheet and are very savy I'm sure it'd be manageable to make this customisation work where balance is retained regardless of what is added in or taken away (just takes some very clever use of the VLOOKUP function and the $ function before number values).

I don't have the brains to execute the idea myself or I probably would try for a few months before my adhd decides we're moving on to something else.

What does everyone think? Would you find the game more enjoyable with more customisable citizen needs/happiness/lifestyle requirements? Would you alter or modify the base game of 1800 just a little bit with this feature, or a lot? Or it could be like past Anno's where you make it so that every new tier still requires the goods of the previous tier? Lots of possibilities! What do you think?

To be honest, I don't fully understand what your idea is.

Do you want to allow players to decide what the needs are that need to be fulfilled? To replace e.g. fish with canned food for Farmers? Or give investors some beer instead of chocolate?

Or is it about categories, i.e. "they want food, but I can give them whatever I want as long as it's a food item"?

In both situations, there's a big balance question, since the efforts to create specific products of course greatly varies (i.e. champagne vs fish), which is currently reflected in the way these products are assigned to specific population tiers and the effects they have for the respective population tier.

That would require a very flexible system that has different values for each product for each population tier - and there are many open questions like: do Investors even get any bonus from fish, considering its super low production effort?
