🢂 Download on the Microsoft Store
Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Microsoft Store:
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Click the [∙ ∙ ∙ ] symbol next to your profile picture.
- Select Downloads and updates.
- Press the Get updates button to automatically detect, download, and install the latest changes to your game!
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 18.15886.
If you are unable to launch the game after downloading the update, make sure you add (or re-add) the Age of Mythology: Retold client or folder as an exception to your firewall and antivirus program.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
🢂 Download on Steam
Remember that you’ll need to update your game in Steam:
- Open Steam.
- Click on Library to see your games list.
- Click Downloads at the bottom of the Library window.
- [If the new build does not download automatically,] click the Download Now button to manually download the new update.
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 18.15886.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
🢂 Download on the Xbox App for Windows 11
Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Xbox App for Windows.
- Open the Xbox app.
- Games that are installed show up on the left side of the app.
- Hover over the game or click it, and then select Update.
- [If the new build does not download automatically,] hover over the game, select More Options (…), choose Manage. Under the Files tab, choose the option to Check for Updates.
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 18.15886.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
🢂 Download on PlayStation 5
- Under the games tab from the PlayStation Home Screen Locate the game and hover over it. Make sure not to select it!
- While hovering over the game press the Pause button (☰) on your controller.
- In the new pop up menu select the Check for Update option.
- If there is a new update available, this will automatically start the download. If your game is on the most recent version, selecting this option will confirm that information for you.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
Please note that custom mods may not be compatible with the latest game update. If you are experiencing issues launching or playing the game after downloading the new build, try disabling your installed mods before trying again.

Game
Audio Updates: FMOD Studio
- Age of Mythology: Retold now uses FMOD Studio, bringing a new level of audio performance to the player experience.
- This update includes support for 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound, as well as more audio effects, including reverb effects based on the environment, EQ filters based on distance, and more!
Stability & Performance
- Fixed a bug that could cause temporary freezing when the host of an Arena of the Gods game skips a cutscene.
- Minor improvements to memory usage by the UI in some situations.
- Applied a fix for inconsistent FPS on Xbox and Playstation when playing with Quality mode enabled in some areas.
- Fixed a bug that caused Arena of the Gods game features to apply while in the Skirmish lobby in some situations.
- Fixed a crash that could occur while displaying range circles on units in some situations.
- Fixed a rare freeze that could occur when an out-of-sync occurs.
- Minor stability improvements for PlayStation.
Achievements
- Fixed a bug that caused some Arena of the Gods achievements to be obtainable while playing the Daily Celestial Challenge mode.
Graphics
- Fixed a bug that caused unit scaling to be incorrect for units affected by Wonder Age in some situations.
- Fixed a bug that caused changes in graphics settings to show visual corruption in some situations.
- Fixed a bug that could cause Zhuque’s color to be inconsistent with the player’s color when disappearing and re-appearing.
- Fixed some visual bugs with Rally Points that caused them to vanish in some situations.
- Healing indicator VFX will no longer display for units with passive healing when the unit is dying.
Audio
- Fixed a bug preventing Push to Talk from working as expected in lobbies in some situations.
Hotkeys
- The “Select All Heroes” hotkey will now work as expected for Chinese Campaign Heroes.
- Transport ships no longer have a non-functional attack-move button.
UI
- Herbal Medicine now has an updated tooltip to provide additional detail.
- Windows IME functionality is no longer limited to the Latin character set. Chinese and Japanese character sets can now be used as part of the Windows IME functionality.
- Added camera movement settings for Photo Mode to control pan speed and inertia ramp time to provide a better control experience.
- Spotlight images will now show correctly while playing Arena of the Gods scenarios.
- Fixed a bug preventing “Daily Best” from showing in some situations in the Daily Celestial Challenge.
- Fixed the tooltip for the “Rock Solid” advanced rollover showing an incorrect previous value (-40% instead of -60%). Note: The string may not appear updated in all languages during this update.
- Icons for scenario and campaign in-game dialogues should not have player color applied in expected situations.
- Unit health bars on PlayStation will now appear the same as they do on Xbox.
- Fixed a bug that caused tooltips to appear incorrectly in some cases while navigating the technology tree with a controller.
- Fixed a bug that caused player names to be cut off in the social sidebar in some situations.
- Player names will now show correctly on the post-game screen when a player has never been online.
- Fixed a bug causing a missed line of dialogue in the first Arena of the Gods cinematic in some situations.
- Game version is now visible in the bottom right corner of the main menu and can be used when reporting bugs.
- Fixed an issue where the spotlight title and description for an Arena of the Gods scenario showed the title and description for a different mission.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the player from accessing the Daily Celestial Challenge leaderboard in some situations.
- The EULA will now narrate as expected when playing on PlayStation with narration enabled.
- The narrator will no longer read out resource bar values when hovering over God Powers when the narrator is enabled.
- Fixed a UI rendering issue that caused the campaign screen to show in low resolution for players in some situations.
Controller
- Fixed distance-based selection for the controller cursor. A bug with this feature had been causing odd offset selections in the last few patches. Selection with the controller cursor should behave as expected.
- Passive unit abilities are now visible in the Command Menu.
- Trade units can now garrison when using a controller.
- Fixed a bug when switching missions in Arena of the Gods with a controller that could cause the rewards tooltip to flash and close.
- Fixed a bug causing the Site Menu Town Bell and Return to Work commands to not function as expected when using a controller.
- Fixed incorrect narration of Age Up action items in the radial menus.
- Fixed overlapping text that could appear when highlighting Time Shift in the Command Menu.
- Fixed a bug preventing military commands from appearing when economic units are first in a mixed naval group when using a controller.
- Fixed a bug that caused units snapped to with magnetism to retain priority for too long while using a controller.
- The Controller Expanded Minimap Size setting is visible again for PC controller players.
- The stance icon will now update faster in the Command Menu when pressed.

Gameplay
Fixes
- Fixed a bug that caused Ge Halberdier to not trigger Xuanyuan’s Bloodline tech effect on death.
- Phoenix units generated from the Sage “Replicate” ability will no longer leave eggs behind after dying.
- Qinglong’s special ability now correctly deals area damage when targeted directly into the ground.
- Li Jing’s ability no longer spawns path blockers.
- Yang Jian no longer deals damage to allied units.
- God power and damage logic now correctly account for invulnerability by checking both the dynamically-set and locally-set invulnerable states.
- Kuafu and Hero Kuafus now repair town centers at the intended reduced rate relative to their build speed.
- Fixed a bug causing the Xingtian Titan to become blocked during a portion of the campaign. The Titan Gate SPC unit now has a weight class of 100 to make it walkable by the Titan.
- Forest Protection now correctly uses “LogicalTypeHealed” instead of “Unit” for its targets to prevent healing otherwise unhealable targets such as Titans.
- Roc’s movement speed has been fixed to match the expected values shown in the last patch notes. Movement speed increased from 5.0 to 5.3.
- Norse villagers can now drop off resources manually on Ox Carts as expected.
- Fixed a bug in Arena of the Gods that prevented player 2 from unlocking remnants on a mission.
- Fixed a bug with Dynamic Rate of Fire modifiers and bonuses that could result in them not being appropriately applied in all cases.
- Caravans can now garrison in Town Centers when manually tasked.
- Fixes for pathfinding in some situations including difficulty navigating near lakes and difficulty escaping from a maze of obstacles.

Campaign
- Fixed an AI error in Fall of the Trident 17, Fall of the Trident 23, and The Golden Gift 02.

Modding/Editor
General
- Added new AI, KB, and Trigger functions to handle and set unit tactics, including the functions kbGetTacticDBID, kbUnitGetTactic, trUnitSetTactic, and aiUnitSetTactic.
- Units set as invulnerable through the “Unit: Make Invulnerable” trigger can no longer be damaged by God Powers or area attacks.

The coming months are shaping up to be a busy and exciting time for Age of Mythology: Retold – for players and developers alike! We’re currently working on everything from feature requests and bug fixes, to new challenges for our Myth community, plus larger content updates. Thank you for sharing feedback on your gameplay experiences and all the screenshots – we are inspired by your creativity and posts. Please keep those photo mode screenshots coming!
A quick note on myth units becoming Titan-sized: The screenshots of huge(r) Giants, Crabs and Manticores was an absolute revelation. Though that visual bug is fixed in this update, we enjoyed your reaction so much that we are considering adding this as a new cheat code. Stay tuned!
