I spent 40 minutes compiling shaders just to barely enter the firing range. My PC supports DX12, but I couldn’t even load into ranked or any other game mode. It’s truly frustrating because I was excited about this update and looking forward to trying the new changes, only to be locked out for reasons that could’ve easily been avoided.

I get that DX12 is the future, but why completely remove DX11 instead of leaving a fallback option? Some of us have responsibilities, families, bills, jobs, and can’t afford a high-end PC just to keep playing a game we love. Apex has always been more than just a game; it’s a community, an escape from stress, a place where we could unwind after a long day. But now, it feels like the devs don’t care unless you’re spending money on the latest hardware or skins.

Other games keep DX11 as a backup, why couldn’t Apex? If shader compilation issues and performance problems make DX12 unplayable for some, why not give players the choice instead of forcing an upgrade?

This move just makes Respawn look like Apple, pushing unnecessary upgrades just to boost profits. Shame on you. Apex was supposed to be better than this.

Can confirm that DX12 is required as of the mid-season update. We dove into some of the reasoning as to why we had to move away from supporting both variants with our first comms back around the launch of From the Rift. Some more details are also in our latest patch notes. Keep us posted if this poor performance continues after the initial compiling and we may have some suggestions to help.
