| 479s | um what was the hardest moment for you |
| 480s | in the last year uh five years sorry |
| 484s | five years uh for me it was the first |
| 487s | year probably like the first year when |
| 489s | we didn't have all the attack and we had |
| 491s | to work a lot with what we had with the |
| 493s | original uh yeah and just trying to |
| 495s | figure out what do we even want to do |
| 496s | here that was that was challenging now |
| 499s | it's it's going a lot not abnormal also |
| 501s | because whenever you start a game that's |
| 502s | what they do right yeah it's a big beast |
| 504s | how about you what was your hardest part |
| 506s | well the heart is the most challenging |
| 507s | bit was that basically as everybody here |
| 509s | knows you can play the game in isometric |
| 512s | mode you can go third person we have |
| 514s | cinematics that show the world from all |
| 516s | kinds of angles so actually building the |
| 518s | game in a way that it was actually |
| 520s | working in all these different |
| 521s | dimensions was extremely difficult that |
| 523s | was probably the hardest thing we had to |
| 525s | do really yeah mystery and you make |
| 527s | multiple games actually all at once |
| 528s | right yeah a bunch yeah okay so uh |
| 531s | positive guy a moment then like |
| 533s | highlights last five years |

| 537s | um I think one one cinematic started |
| 539s | really coming together |
| 541s | um so when when the lighting the |
| 542s | characters animations the mock-up the |
| 544s | sound all of that really coalesced into |
| 546s | something else and I went like wow okay |
| 549s | that's the game we're making okay that's |
| 551s | a very different game now I remember |
| 553s | that because that first cinematic we |
| 554s | should share that first cinematics |

| 561s | your top moment oh man the Character |
| 563s | Creator it's amazing the character |
| 565s | creation is lovely like we started out |

| 569s | absolutely nothing like in variation and |

| 573s | these faces face tattoos different hair |
| 575s | all this stuff is absolutely brilliant |

| 671s | had some follow-up questions on bg3 so |

| 676s | yes I have a few questions I'm sure the |
| 678s | fans have a few questions first of all |
| 679s | we're excited that we nailed you guys |
| 681s | down to a release month which is uh I'm |
| 685s | sure was uh much debate internally but |
| 687s | uh August next year which is awesome |
| 690s | um but yeah the trailer I think everyone |
| 692s | sort of wants to know the uh you know |
| 694s | the big surprise at the end with uh |
| 696s | mince and and understanding |
| 698s | um you know how is mince alive how is |
| 701s | your hair alive can you tell us a little |
| 702s | bit about the The Narrative context yeah |
| 704s | sure uh so well jahir obviously is a |
| 707s | half elf so she was a a famous companion |
| 710s | from the original series we decided to |
| 712s | bring her back give her a quite a big |
| 714s | role in into the game you can play or |
| 716s | you can recruit her as a companion if |
| 718s | she likes you you can also have her as |
| 720s | an enemy if she doesn't like you uh she |
| 722s | must be about 150 years old now I think |
| 724s | she was about 30 to 50 years old in the |
| 726s | original game so she's she's uh grown a |
| 729s | little bit older so she's a little bit |
| 730s | grayer like myself uh and then Minsk of |
| 734s | course he is a human so he should be |
| 736s | dead by all definitions by this date |
| 739s | however he was petrified and there are |
| 743s | Comics out there by Jim zupp and so he |
| 745s | was petrified he became a stone statue |
| 747s | in the middle of the white which is like |
| 749s | the big Market District in the uh the |
| 751s | upper City in Baldur's Gate and so he |
| 754s | was there he was standing there for over |
| 755s | 100 years and then he was hit by some |
| 759s | wild magic during a a chase by monsters |
| 762s | who were hunting a wild magic Sorcerer |
| 764s | And he became alive again and he looked |
| 767s | exactly as the moment that he was |
| 769s | petrified it was very convenient for us |
| 770s | because we could just pick him up put |
| 772s | him back together into the game make |
| 774s | sure that he was going to meet his buddy |
| 775s | Jahira at some point and so around that |
| 778s | we started building story and so that's |
| 780s | how you're going to encounter Minsk and |
| 782s | your hero and bg3 yeah we had that great |
| 785s | teaser that we posted online of the |
| 786s | statue and everyone's obvious I mean |
| 788s | that was probably one of the most |
| 789s | requested things I heard over the years |
| 791s | was people wanted links to come back |
| 793s | um tell me was that a decision like very |
| 795s | early on for the team that you wanted to |
| 797s | bring these characters back how did you |
| 798s | come to that sort of conclusion you'd be |
| 800s | surprised actually there was a lot of |
| 802s | debate will we bring them back we will |
| 804s | not bring him back and then at some |
| 805s | point there was some momentum for a |
| 807s | piece of story that needs to come |
| 809s | together and he fit it perfectly into |
| 810s | that and from that it became very |
| 813s | natural so I'm not going to spoil it |
| 814s | today what I was for is that you can |
| 817s | also recruit him as a companion and so |
| 819s | both Jahira and Minsk are recruitable as |
| 821s | companions and you can also antagonize |
| 823s | both of them so they can both be going |
| 825s | against you into the game it's going to |
| 827s | depend on the decisions that you're |
| 828s | going to be taking when you're playing |
| 829s | the game now a lot of people have been |
| 830s | asking all weekend uh the characters the |
| 833s | voices uh any reveals or information on |
| 835s | who's going to be voicing both |
| 836s | characters uh yeah for sure so Jahira is |
| 840s | not played by the original actress she's |
| 842s | played by a very good actress named |
| 843s | Tracy Wiles so when we heard her |
| 845s | audition which said like nails it |
| 847s | instantly so she's been doing quite a |
| 849s | lot of lines on the hero because she |
| 852s | obviously is also a companion then for |
| 853s | Minsk it's still a little bit out in the |
| 855s | open right now now we are looking for |
| 857s | different actors actually could you do |
| 860s | your impersonation of Minsk just like go |
| 862s | for the ice Boo as a line just try it |
| 864s | out |
| 865s | what what line should I do go for the |
| 867s | eyes boo go for the eyes boo I |
| 869s | auditioned go for the eyes boo yeah all |
| 872s | right well we'll keep on looking until |
| 873s | we find someone but we are we are |

| 877s | on the lookout for an actor for Minsk so |
| 880s | we'll be able to tell you very soon uh |

| 892s | auditioned for for Minsk we have a few |
| 894s | more that we're going to be showing on |
| 895s | the show uh today uh and then hopefully |
| 898s | one of those is going to materialize as |
| 900s | the actual uh actor that's gonna be |
| 902s | playing uh Minsk in bg3 I want to ask |
| 904s | you a little bit more about sort of the |
| 906s | game |
| 906s | um in general uh I think a lot of first |
| 909s | of all it was amazing that you gave us a |
| 910s | trailer that was kind of fully in engine |
| 912s | which was amazing I know earlier you've |
| 913s | done some CG pieces but now we're really |
| 915s | seeing you know the power of the engine |
| 917s | and the game |
| 918s | um a lot of people wanted to know |
| 920s | um what were we seeing there um was that |
| 923s | Baldur's Gate the city that we were |
| 925s | seeing in the trailer yeah that's what |
| 927s | it looks like in the game uh so uh we |
| 930s | showed a sneak peek that's not the |
| 931s | entirety of the city that we showed uh |
| 933s | so uh we're not going to talk about too |
| 935s | much about it right now because we will |
| 937s | be showing of the city at a later stage |
| 939s | uh but the people in the know the people |
| 941s | that know the lore uh the people that |
| 943s | read descendant to avernus which is like |
| 944s | the prequel campaign to bg3 they will |
| 947s | certainly recognize several buildings |
| 948s | that were on display there I've seen |
| 950s | several fan videos several Reddit |
| 953s | threats where people actually nailed it |
| 955s | and then I saw some people that didn't |
| 956s | nail it at all so uh they'll Discover it |
| 960s | if what is what uh very very very soon |
| 963s | one thing you did announce last week was |
| 965s | the collector's edition that we saw at |
| 966s | the end of the uh the trailer and I'm |
| 968s | sure people have have already uh picked |
| 970s | it up rapidly because they know there's |
| 971s | going to be a limited number of them but |
| 973s | tell us a bit about the Collector's |
| 974s | Edition for bg3 uh well I mean the |
| 977s | collector's edition uh I think it's the |
| 979s | the finest one that we've uh created so |
| 981s | far uh I thought the original sin 2 |
| 984s | collectorization was very very good but |
| 985s | this one is really really nice uh the |
| 987s | central piece of diorama uh is uh yeah |
| 991s | uh is very fine when you'll see it |
| 993s | you'll be surprised at exactly how fine |
| 995s | it is it also has lots of actions really |
| 997s | well post and then there's a whole bunch |
| 999s | of stuff around it that I think fits the |
| 1001s | team very well like the character sheets |
| 1003s | the the oversized dice is literally like |
| 1005s | it's a heavy metal dice you use it on |
| 1007s | your table you break the table it's |
| 1008s | great you can kill someone with it so |
| 1010s | it's like a forbidden weapon also it's |
| 1011s | really really neat but |
| 1015s | um you got the magic the Gathering cards |
| 1016s | uh for for the people that got the first |
| 1018s | version of Collector's Editions uh |
| 1021s | there's a a cloth map in there also so |
| 1023s | cloth maps are something that used to |
| 1025s | come with every single game back in the |
| 1027s | days when Baldur's Gate was a thing so |
| 1030s | I'm happy that we managed to get that |
| 1031s | back there's a character art book that |
| 1033s | highlights some just some of the |
| 1035s | incredible amount of art that was made |
| 1037s | to create this massive game so it's a I |
| 1040s | think it's a really cool package I'm |
| 1041s | very proud of it I mean like it's uh for |
| 1044s | the team internally this is an important |
| 1046s | thing because we we get these when we |
| 1047s | finish the game and it's like a Memento |
| 1049s | of all the work that went into the game |
| 1050s | so I hope for players that play the game |
| 1053s | it will be also Memento of the many |
| 1055s | hours that they played uh Baldur's Gate |
| 1058s | 3. now Sven we have the August date |
| 1060s | which everyone's very excited about but |
| 1061s | for the fans playing the game right now |
| 1063s | the natural question is sort of what is |
| 1065s | the Cadence going to be leading up to |
| 1067s | launch of updates we saw some new things |
| 1068s | in that trailer everyone's asking online |
| 1071s | at any sense of when the next update to |
| 1073s | the game is going to be released yeah so |
| 1076s | uh this is going to be our last big |
| 1077s | update we call it patch nine so in it |
| 1081s | we're going to release a whole bunch of |
| 1082s | things that the fans have been asking |
| 1083s | for first and foremost there's going to |
| 1085s | be the level five spells so they've been |
| 1088s | asking for that for a long time so we're |
| 1090s | going to give it to them today actually |
| 1092s | patch 9 is going to launch just after |

| 1097s | they're getting so level five in |
| 1099s | Dungeons and Dragons is the moment where |

| 1103s | strategy you start being able to survive |
| 1105s | catastrophic you get access to a whole |

| 1111s | instance Fighters get an extra attack |

| 1121s | they got this really cool thing going on |

| 1124s | zombie apocalypse and in the game I get |
| 1127s | access to Fireball Fireball is a a |

| 1488s | not have counter spell no no counter |
| 1490s | spell and I'm pretty sure China is going |
| 1492s | to be happy about this particular bit |
| 1493s | counter spell requires us to implement a |
| 1496s | certain mechanic yes so we've been uh |
| 1499s | listening to community chatter about |
| 1501s | reactions what they want to see from it |
| 1503s | and something that we're doing in the |
| 1506s | new patch is we're updating we're |
| 1508s | improving this system uh previously you |
| 1511s | could only set reaction to trigger |
| 1513s | automatically whenever conditions were |
| 1515s | correct but now we will allow you to |
| 1517s | pause the game let's say if somebody |
| 1519s | cuts the spell and you have counter |
| 1521s | spell prepared we will pause the game if |
| 1523s | you set it in settings and you'll be |
| 1525s | able to select do you want to counter |
| 1526s | spell this spell or do you want to hold |
| 1528s | on to your counter spell because maybe |
| 1530s | Jeff Killer will call you and throw a |
| 1531s | fireball so what foreign really should |
| 1533s | have done is set up his counter spell |
| 1534s | said ask me a counter spell healing does |
| 1537s | his Fireball foreign |

| 1542s | stop this Fireball or do you want to be |
| 1544s | well what he is now and so far could |

| 2462s | revive characters that have canonical |
| 2465s | significance to players and their |
| 2467s | characters that you know people come in |
| 2468s | with a pre-existing relationship with |
| 2470s | you you kind of carry the weight of that |
| 2473s | relationship it's a real challenge uh |
| 2476s | because you want to honor the past you |
| 2479s | also want to make something that that |
| 2480s | feels relevant to our game we don't want |
| 2483s | to put minskin just to say hey minsks in |
| 2484s | our game he's not ticking a box border |
| 2486s | Skate 3 is a game honoring a whole |
| 2488s | generation of infinity engine games |
| 2491s | several of which ask the player am I the |
| 2493s | monster am I the bad guy and there's |
| 2496s | always this Darkness within you that you |
| 2498s | don't quite know or understand I think |
| 2501s | what's really interesting about how that |
| 2502s | develops over the course of the game is |
| 2505s | that you start with much more of a |
| 2508s | fundamental moral story of do you do the |
| 2512s | good thing or the evil thing in the kind |
| 2514s | of do you save the lovely teeth links |
| 2515s | that you meet or do you decide not to |
| 2518s | but the thing is that the further you go |
| 2520s | through the game the less clear it is |
| 2522s | the choices between good and evil and a |
| 2524s | lot of the times you're faced with do I |
| 2525s | actually trust that the good people are |
| 2527s | good do I trust the evil people are evil |
| 2529s | autonomy I think is probably |
| 2531s | see uh throughout the acts two and three |
| 2534s | you kind of get it set up with the |
| 2535s | companion stories you've seen that one |
| 2536s | so far and um throughout the rest of the |
| 2539s | story uh we see something is pushing |
| 2541s | them in One Direction it's about how |
| 2543s | they can become free there's a bunch of |
| 2545s | different things going on one is how |
| 2546s | much control you have over your own body |
| 2548s | and your own mind so this is implicit |
| 2550s | from the very beginning of the game but |
| 2552s | also over your own fate now as you move |
| 2555s | through the game and you start to level |
| 2556s | up and the stakes get bigger and bigger |
| 2559s | and as you approach Boulder's Gate |
| 2561s | itself the stakes get a lot bigger and |
| 2564s | suddenly you're faced with a very |
| 2566s | interesting question which is of all the |
| 2568s | people you know who want control and |
| 2569s | what do they want control of so once you |
| 2572s | get these higher stakes and you're |
| 2573s | looking at people and saying what is it |
| 2575s | you want what do you want to control how |
| 2576s | do you want to control it what do you |
| 2577s | want to do with it once you control it |
| 2579s | then you start asking and can I trust |
| 2581s | you so if you're in a position where you |
| 2584s | have a lot of people |
| 2585s | all with their hands reaching toward |
| 2588s | absolute power |
| 2590s | maybe you need to say who do I trust to |
| 2592s | have that control and those are cool |
| 2594s | moments too as well as having autonomy |
| 2597s | being a key theme we try to let the |
| 2598s | player do as much stuff as possible and |
| 2600s | make sure all our characters can react |
| 2601s | to it so we're both having autonomy as a |
| 2604s | theme the concept itself but also like |
| 2606s | kind of matches that in play which is |
| 2608s | fun at the moment I'm staring down the |
| 2610s | barrel of a dialogue that has about 700 |
| 2613s | to 800 lines in it that only really |
| 2616s | takes the player four clicks to get |
| 2617s | through and that is because those seven |
| 2619s | or eight hundred lines cover all the |
| 2621s | ways you could have ended up there all |
| 2623s | the states you could have been in when |
| 2625s | you ended up there it reflects the |
| 2627s | journey that you took to get there and |
| 2629s | all of that is stuff that we have to |
| 2630s | kind of hold in our heads and try and |
| 2631s | figure out a way to give you |
| 2633s | um a meaningful experience there is some |
| 2636s | bifurcation and change in the romance |
| 2639s | storylines depending on choices that the |
| 2641s | player has made depending on ways that |
| 2643s | you've treated them in their storyline |
| 2646s | you can see different romance scenes |
| 2649s | when you're replaying the game for |
| 2651s | several of the characters or romance |
| 2653s | scenes will change in tone depending on |
| 2655s | the way that you've treated them you go |
| 2656s | for more a ragtag group who have to |
| 2658s | stick together to solve this problem |
| 2660s | they'll have to people who want to be |
| 2662s | together and they have to realize that |
| 2664s | the only people that they really have |
| 2665s | and the only people that can trust is |
| 2667s | each other and that those bonds actually |
| 2669s | mean a great deal and also they need to |
| 2672s | realize that maybe just maybe they have |
| 2675s | enough time before ceremorphosis kicks |
