Baldur's Gate 3 Dev Tracker

20 Dec

Howdy gang,

One last update to share with you before we leave you to your tryptophanic rest this holiday season.

It’s been a banner December here for Larian. Last week, you helped us take home the Best Community Support award for the second year running. Then you nominated us for the Labor of Love category in the Steam Awards 2024. And we aren’t slowing down.

Much like a certain jolly elf and his industrious band of shorter elves, Swen and team are hard at work putting the finishing touches on the Patch 8 stress test build - set to go live in January. Read on to find out how you and your friends can take part!

We’re also winding down on mod curation... Read more

Hello friends,

It’s that time of year again, nominations for the Steam Awards 2024 are now underway!

Should you feel like nominating Baldur’s Gate 3 in the Labor of Love category this year, we thought we’d offer a little look back at what we’ve been doing over the past 12 months.

With two new major game patches bringing continued improvements, including numerous new ways to kiss your beau, encouraging you to be naughty with new evil ending cinematics, and a custom ruleset mode to customise your gameplay experience, we also handed you the keys to creation with the Baldur’s Gate 3 Modding Toolkit, while bringing modding to console players as well.

And we’re not done yet! In case you missed it, head over to our ... Read more

Like an aged mentor in an inspiring 1980s film montage, we’re filled with pride seeing all the mods you've been crafting and using since the release of our official mod tools in September. In just under three months, you've uploaded more than 3,000 mods, downloaded over 70 million, and created a spell to turn your enemies into cheese[mod.io].

Hey everyone,

There’s a small console-only hotfix going live today that resolves some stability and performance issues when using mods on console.

Console Platform File Limits
Unlike PC, consoles can only juggle so many files at once. The more mods you have installed, the quicker this file limit is reached. While we recommend only installing the mods you know you’ll definitely continue playing with, to maximise stability, we’re introducing a 100-mod limit for console platforms.

What Does This Mean For Cross-Saves?
Console players won’t be able to load saves that already have 100 mods enabled. If you play on both PC and console using cross-saves and have more than 100 mods enabled on a save, you may be able to disable the number of active mods from your PC, so that you can continue accessing your cross-save on console.

We’ll be shipping another fix soon that will aim to give console players the means to access console saves that are disab... Read more

Hey everyone,

Another small hotfix for all platforms is coming your way today! Hotfix #28 addresses a few crashes and blockers, integrates a handful of gameplay bug fixes, and resolves some issues with the Mod Manager.

This hotfix also fixes an issue with multiplayer, where some players were getting caught in an enable–disable loop in the Mod Verification Window when trying to disable a mod that the host doesn't have.

MODDING
  • On PS5, the 'Continue' button will now work the same as the 'Load Game' screen in that it won't allow you to start a game if there are any mod issues.
  • On console, when loading a savegame that has unresolved mod issues, the Mod Verification Window will no longer keep asking you to re-download or uninstall mods when the action has already been taken.
  • Resolved an issue with mod dependencies not being loaded in the correct order after enabling/disabling some mods.

Hey folks,

We’ve got a short and sweet PC hotfix releasing today that is resolving a game crash, as well as restoring your ability to switch back to a non-Honour-Mode save without fighting for your life with enemies retaining their Honour Mode Legendary Actions. Whoopsies.

With October less than two weeks away, console and Mac players can expect Patch 7 to arrive soon! This release will also bring some further minor tweaks and fixes for the in-game Mod Manager on PC.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback on Patch 7! If you’re still noticing a few incompatibility issues with mods, give our troubleshooting[larian.com] a go and try uninstalling your mods to confir... Read more

Hey gang,

Well, the Patch 7 Closed Beta was set to begin today, but while preparing the build for you, we were once more humbled by the classic lesson taught to every game dev while playing bug-fix whack-a-mole: if you fix one bug over here, another one might still pop up over there.

This happened with one of the fixes we wanted to introduce in Patch 7, which has caused passive rolls to stop working. We’re trying to figure out how we got here, so while we do that, we’ll be pushing the Closed Beta back to later this week.

On the plus side, if you haven’t yet registered for your chance to take part in the beta, you still have time! You can register to be randomly selected by visiting the Baldur’s Gate 3 store page on Steam.

To tide you over, we wanted to share with you a list of highlights from the Patch 7 notes, which include over 1,000 fixes and improvements!

As well as the new Evil Ending cinematics, split screen improvements, and the Modd... Read more

Hey everyone,

We come bringing news of Patch 7!

Finally, we hear you say - but don’t get ready to throw yourself into our next patch just yet, we’ve got a lot of work to do to bring you our first iteration of modding tools, evil endings, plus a whole bunch of fixes, quality of life improvements, and more that we’ll go into detail about in a future Community Update!

Coming to you this September, the next major update for Baldur’s Gate 3 will also introduce an officially sanctioned toolkit for giving Lae’zel a mullet. I mean, sure, go for it. You only live once.

As we mentioned in our last Community Update, we want you to have the opportunity to test out Patch 7 and the Baldur’s Gate 3 Toolkit so you can share your feedback with us before it goes live!

Patch 7 testing is now being split into a two-phase process, which begins with working closely with a small team of mod authors from the community. This is our closed alpha stag... Read more
