Lack of proper keyboard shortcuts was unacceptable back in like 1995.
There are keyboard shortcuts for assigning orders, for example you can press middle mouse button > 3 > 2 to assign a crew member to fix leaks, there's a priority system as to which bot receives the order mechanics being the first then engineers and so on, this depends of the type of order.

There is also a priority system on the types or orders a bot has as each bot can have up to 3 active orders the management orders are highest priority like fix leaks, repair devices or even cleanup then comes the operate orders like operate weapons or reactor so with the keyboard shortcuts you can assign orders quite fast without having to worry much about the prioritizing of those orders per bot.

This might be known but you can also middle mouse button click on top of a crew member on the crew list and then assign a order directly for that crew member, or press the "..." button on the top left on the crew members crew list listing.

Just a additional tip but there is also a contextual command list if you press shift + middle mouse button, this depends on your cursor position so if you have hovering over a device you can assign a order for someone to operate that specific device or even tell a bot to ignore it, the ignore order also works on walls, doors and ladders so if you want to restrict bots access to somewhere you can set the ignore order on specific items, from the contextual command list you can also point a item on the floor and tell a bot to cleanup that specific item. The wait order also works a bit differently where the bot will wait on the position where your cursor is located at in the time of giving the order.

The AI is autonomous to some extend in terms of orders but autonomous orders are sight based, meaning, if any of the bots hasn't seen the intruder onboard the sub or if nobody has reported the intruder the bot doesn't have knowledge of it if they aren't ordered to actively be on the lookout of intruders, so they will only act if they don't have a active order currently and if some other bot or player has reported the situation. This same applies with any of the other orders as well. Assigned orders takes priority over autonomous orders, so if you have assigned a bot to fix leaks and there is a leak the bot will fix the leak rather than follow a autonomous order like for example fight intruders, autonomously fighting intruders also depends of the bots weapons skill as well if they have access to a weapon, the type of weapon seen as suitable for fighting intruders autonomously is also priority based so a bot wont try to fight a mudraptor with a wrench or a welding tool for example, so if these requirements aren't met the bot will just try to find safety once they encounter the enemy.
