[2022] Infrasonic Signal Troubles

First time taking on an alien artifact mission, which I've heard are hell to complete, and was told to investigate an "infrasonic signal."

I found the signal, but I'm not sure what to do. It's in the middle of nowhere with absolutely NOTHING around it. Did the game forget to spawn an artifact to pick up? It didn't even spawn any ruins. Just out in the abyss. My sub goes right through it and the little glowing magic thingy is floating in front of the captain's face in his office, but no artifact.

I thought maybe it spawned and fell to the floor, so I lowered my sub about 3,000 more feet all the way to crush-depth and never saw it. So does that mean the artifact is infinitely falling and the mission is screwed?

Any help would be appreciated.
