Hi! Sorry for the trouble. It sounds like you've run into the issue described in more detail here: https://trello.com/c/Atq0Lj6E/342-fix-coming-items-falling-out-of-inventories-and-players-unable-to-interact-in-multiplayer

In short, it's about the logbook you picked up while salvaging. It can be worked around but that's a little finicky; details behind the link. A proper fix will be included in the next update, but that will still be a few weeks in the making. I hope it helps in the meantime to at least know what to avoid!

Unfortunately, having the log in a character inventory or anywhere on the sub also causes this (when there is an overly long message in it, that is). XML editing is not my specialty either, but this is what I was able to find, written by another player who was troubleshooting the issue with us on our issue tracker[github.com]:

The issue can be bypassed by opening up the save file in your favorite XML text editor and searching for "log", you'll know you found the right one if you find a terminal with a bunch of lore looking text. You can then just delete most of the content and the game will load normally again.

I believe we'll be releasing the fix for this issue into the "unstable" test version soon, hopefully tomorrow. Getting the unstable version is perhaps a little less daunting than XML editing; it's just a Steam beta that you need to opt into in your library, and you (and your friend) will get to play the newest changes that are not yet officially released. However, you will also get to play any new and exciting bugs that might be in it ;) That probably will not restore your old game that was affected by the issue, but it should prevent the problem from happening in a new game.
