I came back to the game because of the Metro Update earlier this month. I was a day 1 player and level 50 early into the game's lifecycle. I was at one point a top 0.1% Medic, had all the Medic SMGs gold and level 10. I've been playing Battlefield since I was like, 11. And I'm 20. I'm not tooting my own horn or bragging, or saying I'm especially good at the game, I'm just trying to show that I understand Battlefield, and I'm not a bot tier player complaining to complain because I don't know how to counter MMG players. I'll link my BFV Tracker at the bottom for proof.

However, I have to say, with this all in mind - Never in the history of Battlefield, nor in all my time playing other shooters, have I run into a playstyle this poorly designed, this obnoxious, this prevalent, or this frustrating to run into. When I say poorly designed, I mean it. This game's MMGs are a rare example of a specific game mechanic/weapon that is so badly implemented, it is not only a detriment to the people it is being used against, but for the people the user is on the team with. And it's extremely common, moreso than I ever remember it being since launch, and past multiple nerfs and rebalances.

Playing against MMG players is extremely unfun and unrewarding. When you die to a person proning and camping with it down a corridor or a choke point, which is the vast, overwhelming majority of its usage, you are dying not because of a mistake you've made, because of the other player having any more skill than you in certain areas, you are dying exclusively because that player clicked on the MMGs in the weapon selection screen. That is it. You have a 0%~ chance to survive the encounter due to the insanely fast TTK. You have a 0%~ chance to fight back due to the TTK.

Now on the flip side, it's awful to play with. If multiple players on your team or god forbid your squad are MMG camping a flank, they're playing how the MMG incentivises them. They're not on the point, they're not contributing anything, they're just mowing down random people who are trying to move around the map. They're just as bad as AFK back of the map snipers, except they get completely undeserved and skilless kills all the time. I know killing people helps, but if they had an LMG, they could accomplish the same goal, but actually be pushed by the game, naturally, to be on the point.

Yes, this playstyle can be countered, via flanking the MMG player. But for the first death, for the many deaths that will be caused by this player, before he is flanked, that player is wreaking havoc without any skill or effort. This is in an absolutely perfect scenario, disregarding if the MMG player is at a chokepoint, that can't be flanked through, if the player is camping the flank, or if the player moves positions, or if the player has enough brain cells to turn around at any point, and instantly kill anybody that tries to.

"Just flank lol" is not a solution to this. It's not even remotely close to a solution. Say we add a gun, a pistol, that kills instantly in one shot, at every range, with no recoil, and infinite ammo. It would require a bipod. It would be overpowered, obviously - But technically, if you just flanked, and snuck up behind them, you could kill them. But it's just not that simple. Any overpowered thing you could possibly conceived can be countered by "Just flank lol". Literally anything. If they made the Boys AT rifle fire as fast as an SMG, you could say the same thing. If they made all MMGs' bullets explode on impact with the same power as a V2, you could say "just flank".

I'm not a garbage player. I love BF, BFV, and I've been playing for a very long time. I'm a decent player, in my opinion. I'm not just complaining cus I lost to an MMG. I'm complaining because MMGs are extremely badly designed, intensely unfun to play against, directly incentivises being a dick both to your team and to the enemy team, and overall just sticks out like a sore thumb among additions that have been made to all the different BF games. I have not once felt a specific game design makes me want to quit the game and never touch it again in Battlefield before, but this sure as hell accomplishes that. It feels like change for the sake of change to the detriment of broader gameplay.

So yeah. Sorry for my ridiculous salty ranting. Thanks for reading.

Not sure why you summoned me since I don't drive the design. What I can say is that we are continuously looking into balancing the mmg gameplay. In 4.6 we added a pretty strict aiming constraint to proned players, in future patches we might implement more changes to steer the mmg gameplay in a better direction. Can't do any promises, but we are reading all the feedback posted online (usually react to them as well) and we are aware of the sentiment regarding these hot topics.
