Hi folks,

Tomorrow we’re deploying a Hotfix for Xbox Battlefield V players. This update will not be delivered to PC and PlayStation 4 players.

  • The Xbox Hotfix is intended to address the persistent stability issues that have been frequent since the start of Chapter 4. Our previous Hotfix was only partially successful in resolving mid-round stability on this platform, but also unintentionally introduced new crashing issues during the loading stage. This was occurring as players joined servers, and could also occur during round transitions to the next map.

Our next update after tomorrow's Hotfix (4.2) is currently scheduled to release in late July, and will be available on all platforms.

Availability

4.02 will be deployed on Xbox One at the following times:

  • 2:00 PM CEST
  • 1:00 PM BST
  • 8:00 AM ET
  • 5:00 AM PT

Update size is tentatively expected at approximately 180 MB.

Edit: Adjusted release times

So far we're seeing positive results here. It's not the solution to all problems but it's a nice first step. Please tag me in the comments if you're seeing the crashing behaviors continue - /u/PartWelsh

A quick note that we're going to be changing the naming conventions on our updates to bring them more in line with our internal names for them.

We want to do this to help make it easier for you to reference updates when discussing them with us. Alongside the release of the 4.2 Update, we'll go into more detail about our naming conventions for our updates, and look to provide more transparency about what fixes we're anticipating in the next update that follows in the chain.

but u/Braddock512 said the following:

Yes, it's still scheduled to come next week with next week's main update.

u/PartWelsh so when do we expect an update that fixes invisible players? Next week or until the end of July?

We received an update this morning that the main all platform update would be late July to ensure it captures more of the critical issues affecting our players.

Hang on, so the invisible player bug will be in the game until late July???

Would you prefer they rush out an update that isn't ready?

I understand the frustrated feelings but I'd rather them make sure the update fixes things and doesn't break anything else then push it out quickly and create more issues.

We have seen that and it should t be the preference going forward.

I didn't say to do that. I asked if the invisible bug will be in the game until late July.

Fair enough, I misunderstood.

This is a terrible way to announce you are delaying another map release... not saying it shouldn't be done. Not saying this isn't what the game needs. I am saying that this is not a great way to convey that.

We haven’t said the map is delayed. It’s due in July, per the roadmap. If that changes for any reasons, which - at this point - it isn’t, we’ll have an announcement. And regarding the update that we had anticipated for next week, we’re working on more fixes to improve the quality of the game - specifically PS4 stability issues, invisible player issues, and more.

Again, vague answers. How boring. I so understand players need tolerate until 30 July invisible players? When will you start saying the exact dates? You do realize that this is how you respond throughout your life cycle? What is difficult to say "the update is scheduled to release July 30," and then players just leave the game up to July 30 . But you need to answer "end of July" which could mean either July 23 or 30. Do not be surprised that the players after these answers are angry at the developers. What you call transparency in practice is only promises and disappointments.

Part of the dev process is Certification - we don't say an exact date until we've passed Cert - with Origin, PlayStation, and Xbox. Because if one of those fails, then we have to resubmit with a new build.

So, rather than "promises and disappointments" by stating a date right now that may or may not slip, we're stating that it's at the end of July. This gives us - CMs - time to ensure we have all the notes and details ready and gives the Devs time to review the update, test it, and ensure it's ready for deployment, while adding additional fixes that are critical to the community.

It wasn't really a vague response at all. You can't really give a date for a patch to go live when it hasn't even begun certification. They obviously can't say its going to release on X date if there isn't a certainty that thats the case.

People would be 10X more upset if they said "The patch will release on X date" only for the patch to be delayed.

Upvoted because this is factual.

Yesterday you said that we could expect it next week.

I get that the dev office must look something like this right now, but people are a bit salty that in ~24 hours, we’ve gone from the joy of expecting a new map (which, bugs aside, should be top priority) to the disappointment of hearing that a lot of critical bug fixes, as well as that new map, are still a ways out.

You’re right, I did say that yesterday, as that was the plan based on information from a meeting yesterday morning. But, unfortunately, the significant issues we’re experiencing with BFV right now - invisible players, crashing on some platforms, stuttering, FPS drops, etc - have forced us (and I think it’s a good thing that the focus is on fixes) to take a little bit more time on this upcoming update to get BFV in a better state. I’m truly sorry for the disappointment - and trust me, it’s shared.

May I make a personal comment? Stability, fixes, and improvements should take priority over everything. I know that for some it may be unpopular, but would you want to play a game with invisible players, crashing, etc. on a new map so you don’t enjoy it and get more mad? I wouldn’t want the experience of a new map to be sullied by these bugs if it meant only waiting another week or so. And that’s just my personal opinion, which you may or may not agree with.

But you said next week just recently. So, if it’s not next week, it is delayed, per you. Your answer doesn’t actually get to the issue of when you said the map would release. You are our community manager. We are to believe you. But, that’s difficult without at least an acknowledgement that you, our community manager, are back tracking. A simple acknowledgement of your error would have went a lot farther than saying we are not behind schedule, because you said it would be here next week and now we know it won’t be. Shit happens, but own it.

I did own it. And explained what happened. And I am sorry that it’s frustrating. https://www.reddit.com/r/BattlefieldV/comments/cbiixi/xbox_hotfix_402/etglgr6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app

If you owned, I apologize. I’ll check the link you sent. From the comments replied to, it did not appear that way. We as a community must be able to rely on you, bc our faith is lacking in Dice for most of bfv (yet still a game I openly enjoy, but expectations have not been met).

You don’t have to apologize. And I understand.

okay. You've convinced us a little. but still I think the hotfix was needed for the fixes 1 critical bug in the form of invisible players. And by the way, there are still problems with registration for the infantry. And one More thing. I asked you about the animation of the boxes which was shown in the podcast (Yes, I know that the animation of the closing of the boxes is absolutely not the important part, you just promised to ask Florian)

He’s checking to see when it will drop. There was an animation issue so it hasn’t been put in the game just yet.

The invisibility bug is, by far, one of the most critical bugs affecting all platforms - but Xbox One players couldn’t even play without crashing, which is why this hotfix was specific for them. Due to the seriousness of the invisibility bug - and the fact we cannot have another fix fail on such a big issue, the team is thoroughly checking the fix they have for it to ensure it’s solid. That’s why there’s, unfortunately, not a hotfix for it.

I know this is a fix for xbox one. But still. It turns out that all players will experience a problem with the invisible for a month. It's frustrating. Therefore, we would all like to have this error was a hotfix before the big update. I understand that all this is difficult to do in the framework of "patch every 2 weeks", but this error breaks the gameplay too much.

About animation thank you for the answer. Not that it was an important point for the game, but when I saw how implemented boxes I was a little happy with the small changes. Now the boxes are finally useful. The only thing I expect from the boxes are the icons on the minimap.

I understand where you’re coming from, but there is not another hotfix coming. The invisibility issue will be addressed with Update 4.2.
It’s imperative that the fix works solidly, so they’re checking and rechecking it to close this issue out.

The main thing that in this update there were no similar errors that will pop up in the first minute of launch. Otherwise, the players will be furious at this.

Exactly, which is why we’re not going to rush it.

AGAIN this situation; there are no update to download! Even though others have already used it for hours. My Xbox One just doesn't find these updates. Maybe tomorrow it finds it. I can start the game and play, but soon there are no servers left wihout the new update.

You need to get in touch with Xbox Support.

I'll be honest with you. The whole "would you rather" excuse for the state of the game in this stage of the launch is horrendously unprofessional and sickening.

I agree with your comment. However the "do you want this, or this" is terrible. Especially in regards to basic stability/performance. Own up, shut up, and fix your title.

Sincerely, Everyone Who Purchased This BF. Thanks

Hi. Thanks for that feedback. I was replying to some comments we've seen from folks that stated they "didn't care if the game was buggy, they just wanted maps NOW". Obviously, there's not a option - more than anything, the Dev team needs to improve the quality of the game, improve stability, reduce/remove bugs. Adding a new map tomorrow won't fix the core issues. That was my point. My apologies if you took it otherwise, as that was not my intention. My intention was to illustrate the focus that the team MUST have right now to bring BFV to a good place where content can be celebrated - not positioned as another negative because the game isn't healthy.

I hope I've clarified this and, again, apologies if my statement was misunderstood.
