Just hopped on to play and the audio is sounding really bad and strange like my character is underwater, no matter what sound preset I use (headphones for my headset, modern warfare sounds fine).

Anyone else have this? Is it a glitch?

Xbox. Audio settings are high boost because everything is muffled and nothings wrong with my headphones. Just probably gonna have to wait for a patch

Hello! Are you still encountering this issue? If so, can you capture a video of this occurring?

It would also be great to know what headphones you're using and how you output your sound (Stereo, 3D, Atmos, or Windows Sonic, etc).

If anyone knows a fix to this please share it, I’m having these same issues too.

I'm on PC. Party voice chat is fine, the rest sounds like I'm eating crackers underwater and it's super annoying

Hello! Are you still encountering this issue? If so, can you capture a video of your experiences? The below questions would also be great to have answered.

  • What headset or headphones are you using?
  • Do you use any additional hardware sound profiles while playing?
  • Have you enabled any other software sound profiles or enhancements on your system?
  • How do you output your audio? Do you use Stereo, 3D, Atmos, or Windows Sonic?

Thanks!

This is most certainly the 3D audio enabled in the PS5 Audio menu. Did the same for me.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Can you share your audio setup with me? Headphones, peripherals, any sound profiles you might use with them, and how you output your audio will be beneficial.

  • default sound settings (all 100)
  • Treyarch mix

Sound issues were fixed when turning off 3D audio

Can you share which brand/model headphones those were?

Appreciate the replies, yesterday! Have you tried adjusting the 3D audio settings via Adjust 3D Audio Profile? You might find a profile that suits you better. LMK if you choose to try them out. :)

So I found a bug with the audio/controller.

If you disable party chat, a lot of the vibrations on the controller are turned off (adaptive triggers and shooting work)

But things like jumping and sliding do not vibrate

Thank you for sharing that. Any luck with the 3D audio profiles? Would you be able to capture video if the sound is still of an "underwater" quality too?

I have same issue. 3d audio profile is fine, tried others and no luck. For me it's not the majority of sounds but really specifically sounds that are ahead of me directly, like my gun and also glass breaking. Sounds hollow and like it's coming out of a phone speaker.

Thank you for reaching out and apologies for not responding sooner. We're still interested in these experiences and are curious if you are playing the correct version of Black Ops Cold War. Our Player Support's Known Issues page lists the following:

If you have both versions of the game installed, your PlayStation 5 will default to launch the PlayStation 4 version of the game. Follow these steps to access the PlayStation 5 version of the game:

  1. Go to your Game Library.

  2. Highlight Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and press X.

  3. Select the […] button to view options.

  4. Select the PlayStation 5 version of the game.

Hey, thanks for replying!

I only have the PS5 version installed. It's definitely set to launch from that. I have ray tracing in the options menu too.

I wonder if the bugs are down to the content packs? Allow me to explain. On PS4 when Cold War was installed the content packs were shown as shared with Warzone. I copied over to my PS5 Warzone and separately installed Cold War PS5. I noticed the content packs on PS5 for cold war said shared with Warzone, below that was some more content packs that weren't shared. I had to reset my PS5 for another reason, did everything fresh for Warzone and Cold War and now don't have shared content packs. Maybe audio is glitching as a result? Or maybe that's relating to crashes people are having.

That step guide is missing "hit Game Version" by the way, some might get confused without that step as without pressing options, then Game Version, you won't see PS4 and PS5 options.

Thank you for following up and sharing advice regarding their instructions. I'll regroup with the team about that.

Your comment leads me to believe that things have improved after the content packs were removed. Are you reporting that audio has improved as a result as well as general stability?
