Hello Exiles!

First of all, WOW and welcome to all the new additions to our community.

Since the free weekend on Steam and the current PS4 Offer with Conan Exiles being free for PS plus users for the whole month, we had a HUGE influx of new players. Thank you so much for joining us on this journey and thank you for letting your friends be a part of this experience as well.

Reddit, the forums and other channels have been exploding with experience recaps and first impression topics, screenshots and questions. Many of you Veteran Exiles have stepped up to help the newcomers with tips and tricks. We see you and thank you for taking the time to welcome and help new players into the fold.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, the unexpectedly high influx of new players on PS4 has had an impact on our official servers, causing issues for players to log in. Adding new servers is always tricky to balance and also takes a bit of time (longer for SA/Oceania areas than for EU/US) but we are currently doing the following for PS4:

  • Increase Decay Time on PS4 to 14 days to make sure players who can’t log into their server due to servers being full, don’t lose their buildings. This will be live with server restarts after a small hotfix today.
  • Increase Server Capacity for South American PS4 Servers
  • Increase Capacity for Oceania PS4 Servers
  • For other territories we will monitor server load and evaluate if we need to increase capacity

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

As you might or might not know, our focus in the past months has been to improve and strengthen the core mechanics of Conan Exiles. That included fixing priority bugs, improving the Purge System, AI, Thralls/Pets, Building and especially the Game Loops such as leveling curve, gear and things to do after you hit the cap.

We have revamped areas such as the Unnamed City, we’ve added new World Bosses and we also added more roaming mini bosses and the chance for special mini bosses to spawn in existing camps.Since one of the latest updates, there is now also a mechanic for you to increase your feat points past the max level (you can check out the patch notes of the latest big update here).

We’ve also focused on addressing exploits (which is always an ongoing process), performance and loading issues.

Even though we did a lot of improvements and came a long way since release, there is still work to be done and we won’t stop strengthening the core of the game and improving Conan Exiles in all those areas.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

However, we are also working on new content. Make sure to also follow us on our Conan Exiles Twitter and Facebook to not miss out on any info such as these screenshots:

https://i.redd.it/yuj2o5f1afr21.jpg

https://i.redd.it/a9p2mz53afr21.jpg

Some of this is coming to TestLive sooner than you might expect. ;)

Please take that opportunity to help us test and work out the kinks before new mechanics and content make it to live so we can balance according to your input. Down the line, we also have PvP and the Siege System in our eye, so don’t fret PvP players!

Make sure to join our Dev-Stream tomorrow at 4pm CET / 10am EST for a look at what’s coming VERY, VERY soon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks to all you Exiles, newly born or seasoned veterans, for being part of our community. We’re honored to have you with us on this journey. :)

Edit:
New servers for Oceania and SA will come online as they are made available to us. This operation should be done for all new servers before the weekend. Thanks for your patience and understanding in this.

The fact that your live team didn’t predict or prepare for the influx is directly on the shoulders of your entire live staff.

It is easy to predict and build for influx...so why didn’t you?

We did prepare but preparations and estimates can never be 100%. Let's just say that in this case it was overwhelmingly different than we anticipated. Which is the reason we are adjusting now.

You guys are doing so well! As someone that bought the game when it was first released, I can see the immense amounts of effort poured into the game, and I'd go to the ends of the earth to defend the experience to any doubters lol. It's such an endlessly cool experience. Thank YOU for pursuing improvement. I can't tell you how many times devs have just abandoned ship on a game I had high hopes for. Funcom is badass. <3

Thank you. We are certainly not perfect by any means but we try to learn from mistakes and improve. A vote of confidence is always appreciated :)

I'm having some serious issues with the games performance on the ps4 pro, while my friends and even my own regular ps4 have no issues. Other friends will pro's are reporting the same issues as me, it looks like lag, like the games freezing but its not a network issue. Any word on a fix?

Our Tech Team is currently running tests and looking into the issue. I can't give any ETA, though. Sorry about that.

As a Release Cordinator, I would have to, again, call out your LIVE team and upper management for the snafu.

Did you run pretest with sims before it? It is marketing’s fault for pushing it before tests were done?

Yeh...poor management

Estimates??? What estimates? Throw sim clients in until the server breaks then you know.

It’s not rocket scientist, but it is science.

I am not sure what you are referring to here? We are talking about estimates for new players coming in with the PS4 Plus offer and overall server amount available. Not Server slot capacity changes.

Thanks for the update for us Noobz. I think I can speak for a lot of newcomers that this game was a welcome surprise. Conan went under the radar for a lot of players when it launched and now people who are just trying it because it was free on PSN have realised it's actually really good and are hooked (me included!).

Here are the biggest issues I have seen cropping up for all the players I have met:

I have played for about a week on PS4 and the biggest thing that players I have met are complaining about is actually getting into a server. So it's good news you are adding more and extending the delay. In the EU the official servers are so few and hard to get into in the evening I've had to give up and switch to American ones instead. The lack of a server queue is a massive annoyance as players have to literally sit there and spam the join button if they want to get in the server where their friends or base is.

The other big issue is lag - even on EU servers where I have had pings of 50 and below, there is still a lot of lag and I have heard many other players say the same thing. It's particularly noticeable with NPCs and running animals such as gazelles.

A lesser but still important issue is voice comms. Some people are having issues with not being heard over microphones even in range, and I feel like the volume in-game radius needs to be increased. Unless you are standing literally next to another player in game, it's very hard to hear them on voice comms - which isn't very practical in a game based around combat and exploration. Most of the time people just make parties on PSN/Discord instead to fix the volume issues, but that cuts them off from chatting with random players, so it's something I'd like to see addressed. Also for new players it's unclear that when the mic icon appears when a player is in range, it doesn't necessarily mean they are actually talking. Maybe this could be a bit more clear. You often don't know if you're being spoken to but are out of earshot ingame, or the player just isn't saying anything.

The only other big issue that I wanted to raise is building griefing in PVE/PVE-C servers. I have been on multiple servers where players have walled off entrances to areas containing lore or key enemies. I understand that players should be allowed freedom to build almost anywhere, but it is hurting exploration of the world and uncovering the lore. There is no clear way to report the worst instances of this to admins on the official servers. On a similar note, on PVE/PVE-C servers there are a lot of players who just spam down foundations in huge lines in order to secure whole areas without actually building anything there, usually joined to large bases so it exerts a large area of control and doesn't decay fast. Not only is this very frustrating as whole areas get locked off for building, but it looks terrible and hurts the ambience of the game. I think that there needs to be measures to prevent this kind of behaviour or at least a way to report it.

With those out the way, I'm really enjoying the game and love the sense of scale, the exploration, sense of progression and the base building. Like the best MMO's there is a very epic feel to Conan and the sandstorms, sunsets and sunrises are remarkable. Yesterday we trekked up from the lowlands to the aqueduct and followed it up to the snowy lake shores in the shadow of the volcano. We passed some massive clan bases and the lush ambience in the highlands was so different to the barren plateaus of the south. A storm was raging as we looked across the lake and the whole area was dark, lit only by the occasional flashes of lightning and the red lava seeping out of the volcano. It was a scene straight out of Lord of the Rings and it was awesome. I know the dev team is small compared to the scope of this game and I think you did a great job, keep improving it and I am sure all these new players will be happy to drop money on private servers and DLC packs!

We are constantly working on improving performance on consoles as well as on PC.

The griefing on the Servers we offer for free is really disheartening. As our servers are not like mmo servers and since Conan Exiles does not have a subscription model we do not have traditional mmo GM support. We have and will keep adding mechanics to counter these kind of behavior game mechanic's wise as much as we can. We do act in very extreme cases and if we have clear evidence presented where we can act very efficiently if needed. It's always very saddening to hear when players' main objectives are to ruin others enjoyment of a game.

Thanks for the input and sharing your experience (positive and negative) with us :)

I really want to avoid being one of “those” people but I can’t seem to enable nudity offline? I’m based in the UK. I’m not one of those people who only bought the game for the nudity, I’m a big Conan fan and a fan of the game but after a while away I’ve returned and I can only enable nudity when I’m online? It just doesn’t work for offline solo for me. It’s not a game breaking thing I just think having the option of making the game more adult makes it more immersive

It just doesn’t work for offline solo for me.

It absolutely should.

Please make sure you set the nudity setting both from the settings menu and also when you are in game. Due to user safety and child safety settings you do have to set it twice.

As a newcomer to this community, and coming from Ark’s community, it’s great to see this level of communication.

A couple of ideas from a PS4 player that I haven’t seen on this thread:

Is there any plan to improve some of the UI interface stuff? Like with crafting and the hot bar radial wheel thing? For instance:

Having a folder view for craftables would be great. Once you start learning lots of feats, you have to scroll through a huge list of stuff. While you can filter it so only some stuff is highlighted, you still have to scroll through tons of stuff. I often times find myself scrolling past something. Perhaps a search feature here would help too.

An easy way to move single items to another inventory. If I have 500 wood and want to put 10 of that in a campfire for fuel, I would have to split it up a ton of times. Or just move it all and take it back when I’m done.

If the radial wheel would remember what was in it last and would auto fill, that would help a lot. That way if you go get your body bag, you aren’t sitting there going through all your stuff to fill the radial wheel back up while the wolf that killed you is getting closer again.

The ability to use more things from the inventory screen. I have most of my tools and weapons in the radial wheel and have to keep swapping out the one free slot with the structure I want. The ability to use building pieces from the inventory would speed things up a lot.

Any chance of multiple beds with a naming feature? So I can choose to spawn at the south bed or north bed for example?

I’ve also noticed a bug on PS4 where the last text entered will auto fill on the next text. So if I search for a feat, and then later on I go to name a chest, that search is still there and I need to delete it.

That’s about all I got. I’m loving this game and keep up the good work!

We are definitely looking into improvements to the UI. Iirc there are already some internal changes made.
In general it is a case of priorities and what we need to improve first. Quality of Life improvements (as most of your suggestions would fall under) are generally a little but further down the line when it comes to priorities. We know it is important for players too but we do need to prioritize more critical or pressing issues first :)

With that said, we are aware that players have several ideas on how to improve the UI and make it more user friendly.

Great communication, thank you. The only thing that hasn’t been addressed is the loading bar bug. I feel like this is a separate issue than the max server capacity, as my server is 22/40 capacity but the bug doesn’t let me join. I don’t mind waiting a bit if the capacity is full, I understand you’re working hard and I’m patient to get in. But it’s frustrating to not be able to join my server for several days even though there is plenty of space.

This happens when you try to connect to a server the same time it fills up.

When this happens it's best to immediately exit and try to reconnect.

(PS4) Why not increase capacity for EU servers? At least make it 50. The only time player count hasn't been an issue logging in is like midnight to like early morning. Then it's 40/40, 39/40, 38/40 for the rest of the day and I have to spam favourites from anywhere like 2 minutes to half an hour, once it had taken me an hour.

Also I don't know if you take suggestions here but perhaps in the friendly NPC city, give some of the merchants a bit more items you can buy with silver/gold because only 1 item is a bit lame.

And on Co-Op, add player markers so I don't have to get tethered constantly and as I can't see the other players if it's a dense area.

On PS4 you can't use a lot of weapons in first person like PC. Would be nice to use bows in first person as well.

Lastly, it would be nice to be able to leave my OWN clan without losing everything I own.

Less serious (But still welcome):

Another suggestion, can we have more arcane/mystic clothing/weapons/decorations etc... added? Like the Witchfire torches and map room etc...

And for player creation let us choose the pointiness of the ears so we can make elves, as you can already change the eyes to get an elf look.

The slot cap is in place to not cause more issues for players in regards to performance. We are however monitoring constantly and are also constantly working on performance improvements. So we will see what the future brings.

Sepermeru (the friendly NPC city, as you call it :)) is getting a revamp with our next update ;)

I recently joined in as well and I have to say, that even though I f**king hate the spiders, the community is actually quite friendly, every si glen player I've met is quite mature and friendly, some of them just wanted me to kill them but anywho. I'm LOVING this game so far, it's also super awesome with friends as well, I know I'm gonna enjoy this game for months to come.

The spider community can be a bit skittish. I think they are also a bit misunderstood. After all, everyone is looking for friends and wants to be loved, right? ;)

Use to play ark with friends. Heard about Exiles before it dropped but decided not to pick it up because my pc is a potatoe and could barely handle ark. Was pleasantly surprised a couple days ago when it was on ps+. Hadn't even known it was available on console. Been playing the last couple days and I like it. I feel like it improved all the parts of ARK that frustrated me, and because of the npcs I feel like I won't miss out on most of the experience if I play single player.

Both Ark and CE have their own strengths which is the great thing about choice (or why not play both?).

Really glad you gave Conan Exiles a chance :)

Oh yeah! I remember being hooked to SWG (until they changed the ruleset -.-)

After not finding any servers ne and my friends started playing on an Asia server, we connected well and rarely lagged. Everything has been good for the last week, until the patch today, now every time I search for my server it says its invalid with skyrocketed ping.

Anyways, my question is am I just out of luck now? Or is this something that happens from time to time?

We are monitoring the different server locations and keep an eye on demands and server loads. I doubt we changed anything in a patch that would lead to what you are describing. Which server# were you playing on?

And as primarily a single player gamer of Exiles, all I ask is you give us some love too. Better server options, balancing, etc. I realize we may not be your "core" audience, but we exist and enjoy the game too.

Still, awesome work from what I've seen so far guys. You're pushing out better content faster than some AAA devs are.

It's appreciated .

There really is no such thing as a "core audience". We do have a very dedicated single player audience that is equally important as any of our other players groups. A lot of our very dedicated and fantastic builders are using the benefits of SP due to the admin panel options :)

What do you mean by "better server options"?

I'm probably gonna get my head chopped off for this - but have you looked at Rust?

Maybe something like their tool cabinet mechanic could help lessen foundation spam - in the way that if the blocks donw have a cabinet in range they decay faster. I have some few raw ideas how that could be, I can mail them to you guys or send a PM or whatever is easiest.

Seriously love the game, thank you and thank you to the team from Denmark <3

That is how our system works, too. However, we do not have any limitation in place regarding how big you can build or how much (other than that the stability requirements need to be met)

about 5 years ago - /u/funcom_kyena - Direct link

I dont think it should have a limitation either, its what makes conan so diverse in terms of buildings and designs etc. An idea was that activity buildings act like tool cabinets / decay slowers. So fx - if there are blacksmiths or carpenter benches (basically all the placeables that players interact with) near a block it decays slower - if not it decays faster - and the less there is in x radius range the faster it decays. So if you build a wall thats 2 km away from your castle with no interaction buildings in x ranges the wall decays faster. and the rate of that is then connected to amount of activity buildings and activity interaction ? something somthing, im no expert - just had a brain fart XD

Our designers have many ideas as well but changing the system would mean a lot of development time. It's definitely not something that would happen over night :)

That's something that comes up quite a bit. It's pretty tricky to fix and since it's more of a "nice to fix for immersion" than "game breaking and can't play at all" it's lower priority. We are aware that players are reacting to it though.

Thanks for the reply and the community communication. If we do see particularly egregious instances of building griefing (walling off bosses, only routes into some areas, etc), how do we go about reporting that to you?

Also I have been getting a bug where in some parts of my base it says the land is already claimed, even though I already have crafting stations there. I discovered this when I removed some crating stations to reposition them and now I can't put them back down where I need them. If this continues should I report it to your dev team and if so, how should I do that? Thanks.

Best way to report issues is on our official forums and send a PM to someone in the community team :) Any kind of bug report is best placed on our official forums too. In the respective sections for the platform you play on. We can then look into it and let you know if the issues is known or if we need more information.

No, the hunger system is not active anymore. We removed that :) Pets have their own decay system now, similar to the building decay. Raising depends on the server settings.
