133s anyway uh-huh so let's just do a quick
139s recap of what's been happening since the
141s last stream
142s because it's been two weeks and a lot of
145s stuff can happen in two weeks so first
148s of all the pets update has finally come
151s out with all the trimmings on all
153s platforms it was in I think it was in
156s test live for like a month or something
158s and there's been a ton of kind of fixes
161s sort of changes tweaks and like you've
163s worked on some of that we're gonna get
165s later so you get the pets update
169s there's the javel song religion midnight
172s Grove is out the of hand combos is out a
176s bit of content that yeah so it's it's a
183s pretty remote stuff all for free all for
186s free of course because you know it's
188s it's how we that's how we do it so we
191s roll out the first half on PC MTS for
193s last week
194s part two rolled out on some platforms
197s this week and my next course got the
198s full brunt just ok and then also we did
202s half an hour before well an hour before
205s the stream started we hope fix PC so
207s okay so we did that oh yeah just like
209s here it comes
210s absolutely good guy Nikolas we also

215s of our lead coders in charge of the in
217s charge of patching he knows who he is he

258s savage frontier pack which is as many of
261s you guessed inspired by the picks in the
264s Conan the Barbarian universe and yeah
267s fun come scoop he does know who he is
269s and yeah reception has been good so far
274s people really seem to like it some
276s people were upset that we didn't have
277s decorative play Sable's and all that
279s kind of stuff from that because well the
281s pickets are barbarians and they are they
286s eat people who support cannibals
287s cannibalism yeah mmm and so they don't
289s really decorate a lot like maybe they
291s decorate with people's bodies I guess
293s yeah shrunken head stick with intestines
295s yeah bloody something so that's come out
302s but so we gave you a couple of pet skins
303s and maybe there's going to be more pit
305s skins in the future who knows everything
307s is open finally in terms of future stuff
311s we're not just going to look backwards
313s we look forward as well
315s we are planning some Halloween events
317s stuff there's also there's already
319s things happening in CG world legends
321s with their whole Sam Hine thing but
324s we're gonna do something for culinary

405s out alongside pets this is where you go

414s the designer in charge of the feature of
417s Jebel site dungeon which means that the
422s design of the dungeon and maintaining
424s all the loose ends as it all comes
425s together magically with all of the
428s different professions putting in their
429s bits so you're like you're like the
432s overseer yes of everything yes
434s so you just said do you just don't tell
435s people what to do and then they do it or
437s yes and no it depends who most some
439s obviously everyone has a boss people
441s tell me what they want yeah and then we
443s get something done and then so on and so
445s forth some cooperation collaboration
447s piece of content so when making a
452s dungeon like this like what comes first
454s is it the physical layout is the length
455s is the challenge like so is everything
458s sort of or is everything sort of done at
460s once there's a lot of talk that happens
462s at once where for example I am told that
465s hey Alex I would like you to please make
468s me a piece of content that is piece of
470s dungeon content of a specific specific
473s difficulty tier for a specific number of
476s people that takes X amount of time to
478s play through right and that's where we
481s have it's about an hour took is about so
485s much time to actually develop and the
488s result is this generally speaking once
490s we know our targets we will go in to go
494s into rough phases of communicating with
496s the environment artists and law guys
499s about how we're gonna make this fit the
502s character of the game and and the
504s setting right like what is a java song
506s dungeon right going to look like
508s and since he's the Lord of beasts and of
512s course it would mean sort of a forest
514s gnome you would need animals it's not
516s it's it's quite it's not only the Lord
518s of peace but the connection between
521s humans and beasts right some people that
526s have played through this on tests live
527s sort of have an understanding what that
529s technically means and based on some of
530s the bosses also yes absolutely I think
534s part of what this like for me at least
536s part of what makes this time to really
538s shine are the the boss files but also
540s how just the physical layout works
542s because it's a bit of a maze like you
543s are going in one direction but you still
545s have to like pick and choose it's very
547s tricky to to make something feel like a
550s maze but technically not be amazed at
552s the same time right where no one likes
554s the a loss for the better part of 15
556s minutes yes backtracking circles there's
558s time and place in it but realistically
559s speaking that the time and place for
561s that is not in the multiplayer co-op
563s game right it's just it depends
565s right so we had to make sure this felt
568s like a maze was not technically a maze
570s had interesting content for people to
573s work through and different and
575s interesting bosses to fight against yeah
577s and so like how do you how do you judge
581s if something like this is like difficult
583s enough or like like how do you how do
586s you judge challenge essentially so from
589s design point of view we have the
592s greatest tool in the world except it's
596s it's a laugh but this is a little secret
599s to the stream right if you're gonna
600s learn how to use any tool in your life
602s learn how to use Excel so have Excel and
605s Excel is a it can do many things we use
610s it as a calculator to guess what the
612s difficulty should be of a sort of a
614s piece of content versus the character of
616s this amount of progression with this
618s amount of gear right with steel with a
620s stone with whatever items out of that we
624s get a whole bunch of numbers which gives
626s us a ballpark figure up okay we expect
629s this amount of damage from these
630s monsters to deliver this amount of
632s threat to the player oh very interesting

657s you work with animation was isn't that

670s that's great however that doesn't make a
673s game because when you actually go in to
674s play it it might not feel nice they
677s might behave awkwardly the combination
679s of numbers or the animation content
681s doesn't quite match up therefore you get
683s mismatched results too much wrong way
686s too much another way at the end of the
688s day to get a piece of content that plays
690s nice feels nice even though you can map
692s it out yeah you still have to go back
694s and play through it and actually feel
696s how it's played and experience it
698s yourself otherwise you'll never get what
699s you're looking for so once this content
701s has been once the dungeon layer has been
703s set once the undulator has been set
706s populated masked it has to get played
709s through yeah and that happened multiple
711s times by myself by me with all the
714s people until we were the numbers though
715s until we got the feeling that we were
717s sort of looking for in the game for the
719s dungeon content and so yeah like you're
722s at least the way the way I'm reading it
724s like your your job involves a lot of
728s math and a lot of iteration and like
731s doing it again and again yes and whereas
734s the the environmental artist like he is
736s they are the person like physically
738s moving so I worked on this with with a
741s very very talented individual called
743s Ivan
743s yes and he did all I don't think all of
747s the aesthetics because we had some more
748s help for the particles from somewhat a
750s few other guys
751s few other people but he did the layout
754s and the aesthetics of the environment
756s specifically right so you guys are
758s seeing everything on screen I've even
760s made a fair bit of this stuff oh yeah
762s and he is super talented I think he's
765s like one of the best guys we have
766s working with him side by side this
769s is I think this is the first time me and
771s him made a dungeon together sure but
774s anyway anyways
776s Ivan worked on his layout side by side
778s and we started off with a gray box and
780s then that turns into hey how much
783s walking time do we want to have in this
784s dungeon well we want to have we were the
786s whole thing to last one hour ish okay
789s let's go with that so what does that
792s mean for this section well that means
793s that this section needs to be about X
795s amount of minutes of walking and Y
797s amount minutes of fighting we put some
801s content in put some put some placeholder
803s stuff in run through it hey it's too
805s long too short adjust rinse and repeat
807s until we get the numbers that we want
808s yeah but it's not it's not like it's oh
810s I'm definitely gonna die no because it's
813s not this is this piece of content is
816s quite difficult for solo oh absolutely
818s yeah there's a reason you have been
820s running out there's a reason you have to
822s run a lot of purple I'm gonna I'm gonna
825s respond on it so this is hopefully am I
827s gonna lose everything
828s this is one of the features that we
829s implement specifically for this you guys
831s seen this on screen oh right where we
832s can respawn the players directly into
833s dungeons instead of having to kick you
835s away loss to space damage everything we
837s should be a should have them what I'm
842s going to do is I'm gonna cheat a bit I
844s mean I was gonna cloak myself run back
847s get my stuff from like we have the
852s physical layer where the mathematics the
853s government or do we have the sort of the
856s challenge level that we want for the
858s target number of people with the target
860s know a target amount of progression when
863s progression means both stats and items
865s and then we play through it until we get
868s the feeling that we want right pretty
870s much the process it sounds like a pretty
874s lengthy process it can be yes obviously
877s the length of the process is dependent
879s on how much time we are given for the
881s piece of content right so you can spend
884s six weeks or you can spend three months
886s obviously more time invested results in
889s significantly higher quality or the
893s amount of content that you do instead
894s right but for this this is at this tire
896s level so in in total how long would you
899s say it took to
901s like make just them in my growth Wow if
905s I was something we're allowed to say I
907s actually don't know if we'll have to say
908s that all right I will err on the side of
910s caution and choose to dodge it took a
913s while it took some time yeah
915s yes but it's it's it's interesting what
918s you said in that like you there's a lot
920s of Excel there's a lot of math - yes I
923s think a lot of people have this image of
924s working at a game studio as being you
928s know you sit around and you talk about
929s games all the time and then you play
932s some more Wow and cetera etc etc and but
936s like every time we have people from from
938s from outside moons coming here then I
942s just gonna warn the mic it's just a
944s bunch of people sitting in front of
945s computers looking at Excel the most
950s interesting people no let me not say
952s that the most interesting people do not
955s work in Excel right
956s however design it so you're not one of
958s these not interesting people designers
962s have to spend significant amount of time
964s Excel from being familiar and not afraid
968s of pressing some buttons and making some
969s formulas happen right because I'm
971s guessing there's a lot of just yeah
974s trying my clock I'm coach myself so
976s that's not very nice yeah my there we go
983s now all the people who complain that I
985s don't know how yeah how often do you
993s just how often do you try something out
995s and then realize oh this isn't gonna
997s work at all and you just scrap it so
999s this is one of the things that you learn
1000s over time right for this isn't the first
1003s time I made a piece of content it is my
1005s first time I really made a significant
1006s piece of content on Khan and exiles but
1008s in my career it's the first time
1009s s'alright you develop a certain sense
1013s for how things ought to be with your
1015s tongue with the time restraints that you
1016s have with the features that you know are
1019s in the game with the models and the
1021s animations that you have to make the
1022s thing that your boss wants you to make
1025s right right so all of that combined with
1028s a little bit of experience sprinkled on
1030s top result in I sort of I have a fairly
1032s good educated
1035s professional guesstimate of how long is
1037s gonna take me to make you this amount of
1039s content in a certain in this amount of
1040s time from that there is obviously Evan
1043s flow about do should we do with this
1045s should we do this way what if we do this
1047s what if what happens if we don't meet
1049s our deadlines for this content all we
1051s don't get a new monster mesh or new
1053s animations or what happens if Ivan is
1055s now going to want to make this dungeon
1057s for example because that could happen if
1060s that could also happen yeah you just not
1062s like outdoors by any places right yeah
1065s and then obviously you need to move on
1066s to something or just convinced that
1070s binds not so bad
1072s I mean based on based on what he's made
1075s I think he does enjoys it I don't think
1077s he hates by I don't think he hates fine
1079s that much but here's a while yeah are a
1086s favorite of even the outputting of rock
1088s when things is absolutely his favorite
1090s task of the day hmm
1093s cuz I know because I I write the I read
1096s and I write the the patch notes every
1098s time we patch and so there's a lot of I
1100s usually see his tasks are like a rock
1104s here or this rope is floating so I
1106s pushed it down and I fixed this seam

1113s joke it's how exploits happened mm-hmm

1152s call we're just four four dungeons in
1153s general like what what would you
1154s consider to be the biggest challenge in
1156s designing
1158s so it depends on the game right for
1162s Exiles the biggest challenge is the
1164s variety of modes in which the game can
1166s be played right right because we have so
1168s many server settings and so much and
1171s there really isn't there is but there
1173s isn't a level system there is a way to
1175s gauge power but it's very difficult to
1177s say that people in this dungeon will be
1179s of an amount of power right in this
1181s stage of their playthrough
1183s and we're not like instancing this
1185s either it's not like in World of
1187s Warcraft this is this is the way the
1191s best way to think about dungeons in
1193s exiles at the moment unless we choose to
1195s change it at some point is that yeah it
1197s is an open-world play field there is
1199s hyper-focused on a piece of content
1203s right right it is a small piece a small
1205s piece of hyper focused content where
1207s majority people can pile in and stuff
1209s happens in Pilon they do they do
1211s oh they do we had some discussions about
1214s the most the most non egregious way to
1218s control the pile in mhm and time being
1221s constrained some of those designs didn't
1223s make it in but we never know we maybe
1225s will implement them in one of our future
1226s dungeons we'll see I don't want to I
1228s don't want to use the book shoot off to
1230s to to before we actually get around to
1232s doing yet yeah but they have like we're
1235s also working on we're also working on
1237s new stuff which were no but I assume
1240s you've also had your hand in some of
1242s these as well here in there so let's
1249s shift directions bit and talk about some
1251s of the some of the boss fights yeah
1252s because like for the most part right now
1254s I'm fighting regular enemies some just
1256s based out it some fairly decent
1258s intervals they they give me a challenge
1259s then if I have to stop a bit to heal but
1262s like it's one of the it's one of the
1263s interesting it's another side effect
1265s it's not really a side effect it's
1267s another effect of making content
1269s specifically dungeon content for a game
1272s with this perspective this combat system
1275s the fact that it's potentially PvP or
1277s PvE or anything in between those scales
1280s and you don't have absolute control you
1282s don't have relative control on how
1284s players experience it right so we have
1288s ad on the side of make it challenging
1291s but don't completely abuse the players
1293s with spawn mechanics with hard pools
1297s within a bit with with npc traps or
1301s aggro traps or anything of the sort like
1303s you find in chi in in more traditional
1305s MMOs right and this is where the
1307s majority of my experience is from it's
1309s more traditional MMOs that like
1310s specifically TSW and a smaller game lego
1315s minifigures online yes so we add on the
1318s side of caution not to go too much on
1321s the MMO side by allow people just have
1323s more fun with it and take their time
1325s working through the dungeon working
1327s through the monsters working through the
1329s bosses and feel the encounters out
1332s without really having to stress about
1334s did I aggro correctly all not correctly
1336s so on and so forth and so like choosing
1340s choosing what kind of bosses to put into
1342s a dungeon is that something that comes
1343s from Joel as a game director is there
1345s something that comes from you is it
1346s team-based afraid it's a team-based
1348s efforts so realistically speaking
1349s nothing is an individual's purely an
1353s individual's work right right everything
1354s everyone contributes everyone has inputs
1356s their ideas and there's a discussion and
1358s like okay based on what we can do but
1360s based on what we think we can do and
1362s what we have we will try to do this
1365s because this makes sense because of X Y
1366s and Zed right so the first boss that you
1369s coming up to a second makes relatively
1371s contextual sense in the place where
1374s you're fighting okay you're gonna have
1378s to explain that a little bit for
1379s instance it's going to be an animal yes
1381s right it's an animal with unique attacks
1385s that would add it to it just to make it
1386s a little bit more dangerous a little bit
1387s more scary oh God and you know you're
1390s you are fighting in an animal based
1392s dungeon so like you would I guess you
1393s would expect you to fight something
1395s right yeah there is another law a bit
1399s here but I it skips my mind exactly what
1402s it is for a little bit so mom that are
1405s Jocasta quite a strong or heightened
1408s fight I hate kind of use the worst I
1412s hate it there's there are some law law
1414s hooks here that I'm just forgetting
1417s right now and I'm sorry for that but
1419s there are connections and if we had I
1423s don't know if they give their getting
1424s game audio
1425s double-size I should be oh they should
1427s be so with Java psyche is talking to you
1429s yes and he saying things that make
1432s contextual sense so where's this monster
1436s very well this is the Panther
1442s this becomes a very interesting fight of
1444s you by yourself oh I bet like alright I
1447s fought this thing before and I got
1449s almost crushed but so these these
1456s attacks that they do like I'm also
1458s assuming that that is like it's just
1460s discussions that you have with the
1461s creature artists it's discussions that
1462s you have with fee the animators who are
1465s so we were making some for example you
1467s see some of his side dodge attacks right
1470s we wanted to challenge players and their
1474s shields by getting the embassy that
1477s attacks them to try to flank the shield
1480s which is why that attack exists yeah so
1483s we want to change the angle of attack to
1485s challenge the player's ability to block
1487s to be in the correct position to be
1489s aware to dodge just like you did not
1491s away from me attacks just to make to
1494s make the engagement level higher with
1496s the NPC then you would otherwise have in
1498s the in are more open world content right
1501s so it's sort of based to a like to me at
1505s least when I'm doing the solo it feels
1506s like it's made to be feels agile like
1509s well yeah it's it's like it's a panther
1511s it's a bit of a duel see this is like it
1514s is one-on-one right now like if we were
1516s several people like we would just
1518s probably pile on it you would pile on it
1520s but again at this so this is where this
1522s is where the difficult of the designing
1523s of multiplayer open-world condom comes
1525s in yes you don't know how many people
1527s are gonna be there you don't know their
1529s level of progression in the game
1531s therefore it makes it quite challenging
1534s to predict and balance it to be always
1536s right exactly so we can we take a guess
1539s we throw we try to put that down where
1542s we wanted the land and then rinse and
1544s repeat until we are happy with it
1546s we keep rinsing and repeating yeah like
1549s that is one of the things that I've
1550s learned in almost two and a half years
1553s that I've been working here there's a
1554s lot of like reiteration reiteration
1556s reiteration all the time just like
1557s tested tested tested over and over and
1559s over and over again and hopefully I
1563s won't die here
1564s nothing you're good you've got this is
1566s very bread you're doing this without
1567s potions as a solo or to expected a
1569s couple of human poets yeah I should have
1571s done that I should have prepared that
1572s but this is another guys this is love
1574s style of the game that you've seen where
1575s we have in exile you have extreme
1577s mechanics well yeah this is blocking and
1580s not taking any damage yes in your
1581s traditional games you'd be taking some
1582s damage a very least right like chip
1584s damage and it's acting like a fire so we
1586s had to challenge the players with the
1589s mechanics that we have in place right
1590s now to make the content both interesting
1593s and rewarding at the same time without
1595s completely breaking the game so because
1598s we didn't really want to employ all
1607s right I'm gonna someone told me the game
1609s audio was off so I'm just gonna turn it
1611s up just a bit this thing I'm just gonna
1615s turn this up no that's actually muted
1617s alright never mind them now it should be
1619s good
1619s hopefully so that we're not hearing
1622s jebel sag and fooling you out on your
1625s unsportsmanlike Panther tactics turn
1630s some of this stuff up just see what case
1632s maybe we can get somewhere all right
1636s live tweaking like yeah I like how you
1640s pull that that people so just got it
1646s just gonna try it basically and now I
1648s have to make my way naked back to where
1650s I was because I didn't see switch on
1658s this thing but what I'm gonna do is I'm

1690s the flow of the whole dungeon as a piece
1694s of content because for me it feels very
1697s it feels quite natural how we structured
1701s it for example you chose to go through
1703s the bores right there isn't it there are
1705s two sections the beginning of the game

1707s either choose to go either through the
1709s bores or through the hyenas right there
1714s is some choice home right after I
1719s respond with full health
1722s and we made a couple of these paths
1725s where you can choose to fight I'm okay
1727s I would like to fight against the
1728s board's because I feel that my play
1730s style allows me to abuse the Boer NPCs
1733s significantly more than yeah allows me
1735s to abuse them the Hina NPCs don't you
1738s throw some bears all the best
1740s so friends this section right here we
1742s have three paths we have left middle
1744s right so I'm guessing like I'm not
1747s guessing because I know this already
1748s that's bears so I don't want to go there

2667s we eventually got the bandwidth to allow

2678s boundaries it was already done it wasn't
2680s very interesting we had to push the
2682s boundaries somehow so we chose to take
2684s this approach where we have a more
2687s focused what's a good word you commit
2692s significantly more to this combat it's a
2694s little bit more if you can't freely move
2696s around swing your sword and hope for the
2699s best
2699s it's more you have to commit to your
2701s action and suffer the repercussions of a
2703s good or sorry suffer the repercussions
2705s of a bad choice or the repercussions are
2709s really replications of a bad of a good
2711s choice or suffer the result of a good
2713s choice because you are experienced at
2715s the combat system and read the situation
2717s cut that path is quite cool read the
2719s situations correctly and react it to it
2721s there you go it's it feels to me at
2725s least like it felt like night and day
2726s but like when the switch over I really
2728s like to play around for stuff as well
2731s like and I had an amazing the people
2733s that worked with me had an amazing time
2735s working this style of combat system
2737s because it's it's it's so visceral its
2739s own depth it's so connects one player to
2742s another player when they're trying to
2743s fight each other it is very enjoyable to
2744s interact with I think it's also good to
2746s have like proper proper movements

2753s first-person running around swinging my
2756s melee weapon yeah in a swirling melee of

2761s action I enjoyed working in combat

1035s professional guesstimate of how long is
1037s gonna take me to make you this amount of
1039s content in a certain in this amount of
1040s time from that there is obviously Evan
1043s flow about do should we do with this
1045s should we do this way what if we do this
1047s what if what happens if we don't meet
1049s our deadlines for this content all we
1051s don't get a new monster mesh or new
1053s animations or what happens if Ivan is
1055s now going to want to make this dungeon
1057s for example because that could happen if
1060s that could also happen yeah you just not
1062s like outdoors by any places right yeah
1065s and then obviously you need to move on
1066s to something or just convinced that
1070s binds not so bad
1072s I mean based on based on what he's made
1075s I think he does enjoys it I don't think
1077s he hates by I don't think he hates fine

1086s favorite of even the outputting of rock

1164s variety of modes in which the game can

1168s many server settings and so much and
1171s there really isn't there is but there
1173s isn't a level system there is a way to
1175s gauge power but it's very difficult to
1177s say that people in this dungeon will be
1179s of an amount of power right in this
1181s stage of their playthrough
1183s and we're not like instancing this
1185s either it's not like in World of
1187s Warcraft this is this is the way the
1191s best way to think about dungeons in
1193s exiles at the moment unless we choose to
1195s change it at some point is that yeah it
1197s is an open-world play field there is
1199s hyper-focused on a piece of content
1203s right right it is a small piece a small
1205s piece of hyper focused content where
1207s majority people can pile in and stuff
1209s happens in Pilon they do they do
1211s oh they do we had some discussions about
1214s the most the most non egregious way to
1218s control the pile in mhm and time being
1221s constrained some of those designs didn't
1223s make it in but we never know we maybe
1225s will implement them in one of our future
1226s dungeons we'll see I don't want to I
1228s don't want to use the book shoot off to
1230s to to before we actually get around to
1232s doing yet yeah but they have like we're
1235s also working on we're also working on
1237s new stuff which were no but I assume
1240s you've also had your hand in some of
1242s these as well here in there so let's

1251s of the some of the boss fights yeah
1252s because like for the most part right now
1254s I'm fighting regular enemies some just
1256s based out it some fairly decent
1258s intervals they they give me a challenge
1259s then if I have to stop a bit to heal but
1262s like it's one of the it's one of the
1263s interesting it's another side effect
1265s it's not really a side effect it's
1267s another effect of making content
1269s specifically dungeon content for a game
1272s with this perspective this combat system
1275s the fact that it's potentially PvP or
1277s PvE or anything in between those scales
1280s and you don't have absolute control you
1282s don't have relative control on how
1284s players experience it right so we have
1288s ad on the side of make it challenging
1291s but don't completely abuse the players
1293s with spawn mechanics with hard pools
1297s within a bit with with npc traps or
1301s aggro traps or anything of the sort like
1303s you find in chi in in more traditional
1305s MMOs right and this is where the
1307s majority of my experience is from it's
1309s more traditional MMOs that like
1310s specifically TSW and a smaller game lego
1315s minifigures online yes so we add on the
1318s side of caution not to go too much on
1321s the MMO side by allow people just have
1323s more fun with it and take their time
1325s working through the dungeon working
1327s through the monsters working through the
1329s bosses and feel the encounters out
1332s without really having to stress about
1334s did I aggro correctly all not correctly
1336s so on and so forth and so like choosing
1340s choosing what kind of bosses to put into
1342s a dungeon is that something that comes
1343s from Joel as a game director is there
1345s something that comes from you is it
1346s team-based afraid it's a team-based
1348s efforts so realistically speaking
1349s nothing is an individual's purely an
1353s individual's work right right everything
1354s everyone contributes everyone has inputs
1356s their ideas and there's a discussion and
1358s like okay based on what we can do but
1360s based on what we think we can do and
1362s what we have we will try to do this
1365s because this makes sense because of X Y
1366s and Zed right so the first boss that you
1369s coming up to a second makes relatively
1371s contextual sense in the place where
1374s you're fighting okay you're gonna have
1378s to explain that a little bit for
1379s instance it's going to be an animal yes
1381s right it's an animal with unique attacks
1385s that would add it to it just to make it
1386s a little bit more dangerous a little bit
1387s more scary oh God and you know you're
1390s you are fighting in an animal based
1392s dungeon so like you would I guess you
1393s would expect you to fight something
1395s right yeah there is another law a bit
1399s here but I it skips my mind exactly what
1402s it is for a little bit so mom that are
1405s Jocasta quite a strong or heightened
1408s fight I hate kind of use the worst I
1412s hate it there's there are some law law
1414s hooks here that I'm just forgetting

1419s there are connections and if we had I
1423s don't know if they give their getting

1470s we wanted to challenge players and their
1474s shields by getting the embassy that
1477s attacks them to try to flank the shield
1480s which is why that attack exists yeah so
1483s we want to change the angle of attack to
1485s challenge the player's ability to block
1487s to be in the correct position to be
1489s aware to dodge just like you did not
1491s away from me attacks just to make to
1494s make the engagement level higher with
1496s the NPC then you would otherwise have in
1498s the in are more open world content right
1501s so it's sort of based to a like to me at
1505s least when I'm doing the solo it feels
1506s like it's made to be feels agile like
1509s well yeah it's it's like it's a panther
1511s it's a bit of a duel see this is like it
1514s is one-on-one right now like if we were
1516s several people like we would just
1518s probably pile on it you would pile on it
1520s but again at this so this is where this
1522s is where the difficult of the designing
1523s of multiplayer open-world condom comes
1525s in yes you don't know how many people
1527s are gonna be there you don't know their
1529s level of progression in the game
1531s therefore it makes it quite challenging
1534s to predict and balance it to be always
1536s right exactly so we can we take a guess
1539s we throw we try to put that down where

1544s repeat until we are happy with it
1546s we keep rinsing and repeating yeah like
1549s that is one of the things that I've
1550s learned in almost two and a half years

1557s tested tested tested over and over and
1559s over and over again and hopefully I

2682s boundaries somehow so we chose to take
2684s this approach where we have a more
2687s focused what's a good word you commit
2692s significantly more to this combat it's a
2694s little bit more if you can't freely move
2696s around swing your sword and hope for the
2699s best
2699s it's more you have to commit to your
2701s action and suffer the repercussions of a
2703s good or sorry suffer the repercussions
2705s of a bad choice or the repercussions are
2709s really replications of a bad of a good
2711s choice or suffer the result of a good
2713s choice because you are experienced at
2715s the combat system and read the situation
2717s cut that path is quite cool read the
2719s situations correctly and react it to it
2721s there you go it's it feels to me at
2725s least like it felt like night and day
2726s but like when the switch over I really
2728s like to play around for stuff as well
2731s like and I had an amazing the people
2733s that worked with me had an amazing time
2735s working this style of combat system
2737s because it's it's it's so visceral its
2739s own depth it's so connects one player to
