I gave it another look on the latest patch.
It seems like the particular issue that was causing the save game corruption has been fixed, as I can verify by loading your save on 1.5.1.1

Unfortunately though, because of the massive amount of changes made with the Royal Court patch, save-game compability is not possible, leading to side-effects such as all characters being near-death.

I am sorry that this is probably not the answer you were looking for and that I can't do more, but in this case it will not be possible to introduce the code fixes to an older version of the game.

Just to assure I understand you correctly, if I load the current game using 1.5.1., I should be able to confirm the same crash does not occur. But the game will be seriously messed up due to compatibility issues and may crash for other reasons. As the crash is very predictable, I should be able to prove the latest patch works.

You have given me hope. Thanks. You can understand how I am pretty reluctant to start another game unless I know I will not end up in the same place a few months from now for the fourth time.

Exactly that! Please give it a try and let me know how it works out.
I tried it myself on my computer using your saves, and I didn't have a crash for many years of in-game time, that includes your save that crashes on load on 1.4.4.
