Weapons rework
- The weapons right now are far more superior compared to what they were a year ago. And with the addition of various weapon specials and mods, it made the weapons much more versatile than they were before.
New game modes
- Trials and Escalation have been added since then. Everyone has got a lot to say about these two modes but I'm glad that we get to do more stuff outside patrols and pursuits.
Load outs
- Most-requested-feature-ever. Remember back then when we had to change gear each time we queued up for a hunt? I'm just glad the days of hastily changing cells and gears in the airship are gone.
Leaderboards
- Not exactly the kind of leaderboards I had in mind back then but it was integrated in Trials instead and I'm kind of satisfied with it for now.
Third dye layer
- Best fashion quality of life update ever!
Revamped daily dual
- Oh and revamp they did! It's called Escalation and it's far superior than what daily dual was. Alpha and CBT players that have played Daily Dual will agree.
Revamped guild system
- It did get some changes like it becoming completely free and the guild cap being added but I would really like to see some more major improvements with it like a guild hub or something, basically anything that would improve the social aspects of the game. At the moment, I view guilds as a glorified group chat. That's my take at least.
Reworked transmogs
- Remember back when we would only use transmogs armors bought from the store and maybe a few behemoth gears converted into transmogs because you had to spend 1 stone each time you wanted to change it? I'm really grateful that they listened to all the "1 transmog stone should permanently unlock a gear" posts people made here in the subreddit. I thought it was kind of obvious from the get-go but I'm just glad that they finally did it.
Radiant/umbral proc
- Hmm.. Terra arrived more recently compared to when radiant and umbral were added but it still got a proc effect before those two could. To be fair, I can't think of a good proc effect idea for them that won't be too stale or too op. Maybe they're inherently not meant to have one.
More plot/story development
- We did get a couple more plot developments through the intro cinematic and hunt pass blogs but I would personally like to see some more plot integrated into the gameplay itself or some other mediums. Personally, I don't like getting plot details from reading quest lines or blog posts because I find it stale and unconvincing. I believe in the Show, don't tell technique of storytelling. Show us why behemoths are bad and show us that Ramsgate is in danger because of these behemoths. I wouldn't consider this as a top priority though. The game should, first and foremost, focus on the gameplay and combat experience as it is the core. Maybe in the years to come when the game has more than enough content and resources, then perhaps they can start enriching the game's plot even further.
More optimizations
- We got a lot of optimizations, we got a couple more that unintentionally broke those previous optimizations, but we eventually got more optimizations to make it better again! All in all, this game runs far smoother and better than it did a year ago.
Unlocked fps
- Yes!!! 120Hz and 240Hz monitor users rejoice! We finally got a use out of them.
It's been a long journey. The game had it's ups and downs. Some noteworthy moments that transpired throughout 2019 were the great platform divide we had back in January, the arrival of the behemoth we all love to hate - Boreus, in March, the addition of the mastery system back in April, the monumental launch on PS4, Xbox1, and EGS in May, the addition of Trials game mode in July, the back-to-back release of Loadouts as well as the game's official launch into 1.0 in September, the controversial balance changes in October, and the recent addition of the Escalation game mode in December. All in all, 2019 was a really great year for Dauntless and it is its best year yet. Dauntless' future truly is bright and I cannot wait to see what they have for us this year.
Here's hoping for an even better year for Dauntless! 🍻
Thanks for reading and Happy New Year, everyone! 🎉
We got a lot more coming too! We're just getting warmed up.
