Recently I've been looking over the slayers path in a bit more detail and realised that I need heroic merits for a specific upgrade (weapon xp bank). I know that you get heroic merits from heroic escelations or whatever they're called but how do I actually do one of them because the requirements are unclear. Could someone please explain it to me?

It should be at the very bottom of Escalation options. It's a once a week rotating thing rather than pick with the other elements.

Another note is meta tends to be glass cannon builds, so meta builds can be very difficult in Heroic Escalation unless you're really good. Consider building something a bit more defensive, and maxing out the escalation tree benefits is almost a must.
