Picked up the game on my Xbox as was looking at "enhanced for x/s" games. Started it up and says I need gold? I haven't had gold for anything since like 2019 and u have a long game pass subscription so not sure what I do from here considering Xbox stopped needed gold for almost all f2p games.

However, the old in-game message that mentions Live Gold covers a general set of use cases where the Xbox service returns that you do not have permissions to play the game from the console/service side. This could be a restriction due to age ratings, online access, and a number of other cases.
I would recommend reaching out to Xbox Support here, as they should be able to tell you why Xbox Services are returning to our game that you are not allowed to play it.
