GUILD CHANGES

When we first introduced guilds, it was to a small community built from groups of tight-knit friends. Guilds were a reflection of those more intimate groups at first, but as our game has grown some guilds have… overgrown. Once we are in the new world of One Dauntless (on PC, consoles and beyond), we will be bringing you new ways to interact with guilds. For this to scale, we will not only be capping guilds, but also making them free.
 

Starting today, we will be limiting guilds to 100 members, including the guild's leader.
 

This new limit will impact existing guilds in a few different ways.
 

If your guild has more than 100 members … you will not lose any existing members at this time, but you also won't be able to add new members until you drop back below the new 100-member cap.
 

If your guild has less than 100 members … you will be able to add new members until you reach the new cap.
 

Bringing Dauntless to new platforms means there are some new guidelines.
 

Because of this, we will be limiting guild names to 15 characters or less.
 

If your guild name is over 15 characters … you will have your guild name capped at the new 15-character limit.
 

Guilds that share the same name after the name cap will be assigned a number after their new name (e.g. CoolGuild1, CoolGuild2, CoolGuild3). If your guild name is automatically shortened and you're unhappy with the result, the leader of the guild can write to us at [email protected]. We're happy to work with you and help you find a new name.
 

We also have one more big change that we know everyone will enjoy:


CREATING A GUILD IS NOW FREE.

 

You heard us. Guilds are now free to make. Anyone who purchased a Guild Charter in the past or received one as part of another purchase (e.g. Founders Packs) will be granted 1,000 platinum. If you purchased multiple charters, you will receive 1,000 platinum per charter purchased. Had unused charter(s)? They will be removed, and you will receive 1000 platinum for each one.
 

What will happen to larger guilds in the future?
 

Guilds that exceed the 100 member limit will be automatically cut back at a later date. If your guild has already passed that limit, we suggest paring back now to get ready for the future. Not sure what to do with guild overflow? Have a friend or trusted guildmate create a guild that complements yours. Think:
 

Skarnfriends & Skraevfriends
Aetherwave & Aetherhop
Peanutbutter & Regularbutter

Hey! This decision came so that we can make more and more guild features in the future, and we need a cap so that guild social features can scale in the way we envision. You will keep your guild, and you will be receiving 1000 platinum as well :D

For example; you play/do dailies for your guild to get points and level it up, and at certain guild level milestones you'll have buffs like: get x% increase amount of $ from y, or earn x% increase to weapon/armorsmith exp, or something to do with the new mastery system. Either way, nice update to a otherwise niche system :)

Super cool ideas!! We are working on different ways to build up the social aspects of guilds, as well as connect them to in-game things like those that you mentioned. <3

Totally! For your own knowledge, when we do end up pruning them back to 100 it will be done so by last logged in date. If you would like this info ahead of time to do the culling yourself, just let me know and I will get you that info.

Totally! I love that idea. The reason we need to put a cap in is so that we have the ability to do cool things like this in the future!

Yes, it's absolutely laying groundwork for the future! Also, you can feel free to email now, however the change will not be able to be addressed until after our game comes back online tomorrow.

Hey, I am really sorry to hear you're upset. I know that it feels bad to get capped on a thing that was not capped previously. I do want to tell you that these changes are going in so that we can do things in the future (such as level up for expanding guild size). Things like that cannot get implemented unless we put in a cap.

Reduce to 100 member will be a hard thing.

I know that this feels bad right now, but in order to make more and more cool guild features, we need to have a cap. We are not deleting guilds. Once we have more guild features, we will be removing players from guilds that are above 100 by weighting who logged in last. This way, your most active players will remain in the guild. If you prefer to remove people manually, you can do that if you wish.

When we do update guild features in the future, we will remove people from guilds based on who logged in last. This way, you will keep the people who played most recently. If you prefer to do it manually I totally understand that, and can get you a spreadsheet of your latest active players if you like.

Totally love this idea, and that's definitely something that may come as we add more and more functionality to guilds.

Same as above, I am into this and think it will come when we add more features to the guild system.

You can change your guild name by writing into [email protected]

The guild capping is rolling out now, and will be live when the patch goes out. Your players will remain in your guild (unless you remove them / they leave) until we roll out more guild features.

In the future (once we roll out more guild features) there is totally the posibility that we will have rewards in the form of expanded guild slots. For things like this to scale, we had to cap guilds so that everyone starts at the same amount.

We decided to put in the cap ahead of the features going in so that guild leaders could choose who to keep in their guild if they wish. If we did not do this cap ahead of the features, we would have removed players from guilds with no warning, which we did not want to do.

More features, like the ones you mentioned, will be going into the game in the future. We needed everyone to be at a 100 cap so that we can have cool rewards like "do x challenge with your guild for more invite slots".
