What is the plan for dealing with the power creep that happens as a result of all of these escalations?

The current plan is to address this when the Slayer's Path comes out. This is currently looking like it will take the form of capped lantern power at ~100, which can be earned from any Escalation. Players already at or above that cap will be capped at 100, new players can earn that power through any Escalation they choose to play, but no further power will be added once you reach that cap.

This plan could change, but that is the current thinking.

Yes, we definitely have! It comes down to issues with item clipping and physics. Right now, it would be a little tricky, so we've prioritized other things.

We don't have any plans to make a third variant for Terra. We've learned a lot between Blaze, Umbral, and Terra on what level of changes we want to make for Variants, and we'd like to return to doing three in the future, finding a balance between light changes like Flameborn Gnasher, and extreme changes like Sporestruck Embermane.

He wasn't always a tree! I started sketching solely under the idea of a TERRA behemoth, so I cast a pretty wide net. We came together over multiple meetings, narrowing the sketches down and slowly refining the visual ideas and themes that we liked. How did the behemoths get sporestruck?

Those Agaric Spores are nasty things!

In the same way Agarus itself spreads in unusual ways compared to other Behemoths--it's got a lot in common with things like the Armillaria genus, which can grow to cover several square miles--the Agaric Spores attached themselves to Embermane and Charrogg particles (when Behemoths "dissolve" at the end of combat, they're actually breaking apart into component particles, one in a million of which will grow into a full Behemoth).

The Embermane and Charrogg particles in particular were fertile ground for the Agaric Spores, and swiftyl mutated them into the new "Sporestruck" form. Sporestruck is essentially an infection, but one that so far is contained to the Arbourhome Blight.

Other Behemoths have not become infected with the spores (and Slayers armour is resistant to them as well) due to the vagaries of aetheric molecular bonds.

Is there a chance to add new behemoths? Not necessarily for escalation like bosses and behemoths with different elements, but in pursuits or/and in patrols?

Will there completley new behemoth in escalation, But escalation only ? Not behemoths that changed there elements but behemoth that can only be fought in a specific escalation?(idk how to explain the idea but I hope it's clear enough)

Thanks for the questions!

1) Right now, we have no plans to make any new behemoths outside of Escalation. Between Behemoth variants and the Capstones, our behemoth team is pretty tied up. It's pretty likely though that those variants we make will eventually be showing up in the Hunting Grounds.

2) Heartbreaker is a little overtuned, it's possible it will get a nerf, but regardless the Granny's Tonics that were introduced with Untamed Wilds will all be temporary. That means that when the Untamed Wilds is done in a few months, those tonics will be vanishing back into the Aether, including Granny's Heartbreaker. This is part of why we were okay going a bit overpowered with them.

3) No plans for this outside of the Capstones right now. That said, variants like Sporestruck Embermane, and something we've talked about for our frigid future approach being so dramatic a change as to be wholly new Behemoths!

Any plans to improve the interaction of islands on a hunt? Don't get me wrong, fighting the behemoth alone on a hunt is really fun, but it would be super nice to have some more things to do on an island other than fighting the behemoth. I know we already have resource collecting like picking Ironthistle and it's fun in its own way, but your slayer only really swipes at it and that's that. I think it would be really cool if there was something else to do on islands during a hunt like looking for lore pieces, discovering new plants/ores (writing them down in a journal or something), maybe encounter fauna unique to that island that may or may not be friendly, or having to avoid natural obstacles like poisonous shrooms or lava that naturally appeared on the ground.

Totally! We've long had a desire to diversify the player's experience on islands, and lots of new things will be coming with Hunting Grounds:
https://playdauntless.com/roadmap/hunting-grounds/
For the Escalation islands as well we're always looking for new opportunities for gameplay while still maintaining the fast paced experience most players are looking for.

When designing the sporestruck behemoths, how do you guys decide on which ones to choose? And when you do choose them, do you design them based on the escalation (like spores being the main theme) or do you base them on the terra element?

Another thing that everyone else in the community wants to know is what can we expect with these unique variants going forward? Can we look to see them in the future hunt type with other terra behemoths, or are they only unique to the escalation?

Last thing I wanted to ask is that because these sporestruck behemoths stand out from previous variants (fire and umbral) will we get to see a unique armor piece or weapon be able to be crafted from them? I know that they don't have unique terra parts but their fire counterparts, but will creating their own terra parts be something that can change in the future?

So I can speak from a visual/concept art standpoint- We had a couple ideas laid out in theory, so I took a few of the behemoths we were talking about (which would be fun to fight? Which would look cool with the terra theme?) and did some sketches of how they might look taken over by the terra element. We used that as a springboard to continue the discussion and take things further from both a visual and game design standpoint

This still raises concern over the Power calculations in Trials, though. Why does the Capacitor Power have to be present outside of its Escalations to begin with? It is a Power bonus that comes out of nowhere, and isn't integrated into anything particularly well.

As a concept, it makes sense to be included within a respective Escalation for the roguelite feel, but I am very surprised that there is any intent to keep it outside of it. Unless there are some substantial ideas for shaking up the difficulty of the content going further forward, this feels like a half-measure.

Completely removing something that players have earned is a delicate balance. That said, the Slayers Path comes with a great deal of overhaul in general to the balance of the game. We'll be open to revisiting the idea of removing that power completely after that comes out. Dropping and capping the power is step one.

We're not done with the concept, either. They won't always have new VO for the mission as we did with Granny and Xelya, but they will always (AFAIK) have unique narrative elements tied into current events or narratives.

In the short term, the Slayers Path and Progression rework will come with a number of new avenues of progression that veterans can work on, master, and complete. In addition, at that same time we'll be removing some of the extra power that has been added to the game and re-balancing the challenge of existing end game content a bit.

Finally, at the same time as Slayers Path we will be introducing the Heroic Escalation queue with its own new rewards to obtain.

In the longer term, we have a strong desire to tackle both smaller and larger reworks of Trials in the new year, to provide more content and challenges for our veterans.

Question 1: So can you explain the environment of terra escalation. Especially the huge tree that Agarus is on.

The original tree in the heart of Arbourhome grew in a concentrated area of terra that was so dense it had begun to self-charge (i.e., these islands didn't necessarily become charged by the Maelstrom in other words). This attracted the fungal living aether lifeform that was the Agarus, at least that's Doc Priyani's current hypothesis.

But when the Agarus first emerged, the Farslayers initially thought that the tree itself had transformed into the Agarus completely. Instead, the Agarus essentially put the tree's life force into a state of aetheric suspension and takes over the entire thing, both parasite and saprophyte.

It's possible that, if left alone, the tree could recover to its former glory. The problem is that due to the spread-out nature of Agarus, it's very difficult to truly destroy it--and it always seems to reassume control over the central tree in time to face the next team of Slayers.

Question 3: So when we kill agarus what happens to the "tree" left behind. Dose that become agarus or what.

See above!

Question 4: what ties dose granny have with the alcamancers faction if any.

She knows them, has worked with many of them in different capacities, but she's not much of a joiner (despite her attire, she's not a member of the Unseen either).

Does the recent addition of passive damage reduction and lifesteal to the amp trees herald an Iceborne rework or nerf?

In another response in this thread, you said that you have no plans for a 3rd Sporestruck variant. However, you've also said you're planning on making gear for SS Embermane and Charrogg. Can we assume you'll go back and add variant gear for the other Esc modes? If you do, then will Blazakiri and Umbroshai just not get gear so every element has an even amount of gear options?

How soon can we expect Heroic Esc? Does Heroic Esc increase the odds of getting a Shesc rework and shock variants?

Will the variants from Esc appear in the new "Hunting Grounds" gamemode in some way?

Regarding Amps in Terra, we would have liked to include more shield themed amps in the season itself for both granting them and expending them in different ways. Time constraints and the talent rework ate up some of the time that might've gone into that. There aren't any plans to add new direct ways to gain shields in the short term, but we are buffing and altering some of the existing cells like Fortress and Strategist.

Heroic Escalation should ideally be dropped by the end of this year, we're hoping to have them available for our players over the holidays.

Players should also be seeing variants appear in the Hunting Grounds, sometimes directly on them, and sometimes for events.

I've ran into Planar Voyage (Round Modifier), Shadow Dodge (Amp), Hot Spot (Amp) and From the Ashes (Amp). I don't think those belong in Terra Escalation, so is it intentional or not?

Will Virulent Impact in Terra Escalation stay a Common Amp? I think an Amp that powerful should be more Rare

Agarus is really squishy and easy to deal with for our current Power Creep level, is his Health going to be increase to compensate?

Agarus barely heals in his Aethercharged State, will his Healing amount be increased at all?

Agarus also has a really high stagger limit, will it be reduced to get it easier?

That is all, if any Dev replies, thanks

1) No plans to add a third Terra variant. For this season we were more focused on pushing our variants further than in the past. In future seasons we'd like to find a balance to get a number of variants we're happy with.

2) This is intended. It's always been the plan that as we build up a larger pool of amps and modifiers, we do at least some re-use between seasons to try to create new and difficult combinations of amps and hunt modifiers. There will always be some level of mixing between the seasons as we go forward.

3) For now, it's going to remain a common amp, it's intended to be easier to get those amps you expend talents on to get. In the near future there should be some re-balancing to the drop rates behind the scenes of different rarities though that will make common less overbearing.

4/5/6) We're planning buffs and changes for Agarus, though I don't have answers to directly what those changes are.

As far as behemoth model variation goes in the future, we'd love to! It does take time from our 3D artists though, so that generally means making a sacrifice, such as having less overall variants per escalation. Do you like updated behemoth models with potentially having one less variant?

We've been adding large journal entries for each new Behemoth species so far haven't had the bandwidth to add more about the variants, etc. Working on it and hope to get that into the Journal in the coming months!

If you check previous Lore AMAs I also cover quite a bit about Behemoth history and physiology.

Hmmm by now I don't have more questions.

How 'bout now?

Will the new cell 2.0 update helps to manage the power creep we are having currently right now? Will some of the non - meta weapons such as quillshot, nayaga and etc be in used for cell 2.0?

And really, he'd very likely be pretty stringy.

Oh, we have a few things cooking. I can't give out too many details, but our new Event Vendor, Ozz, is going to have something similar to contracts that will be completely separate from the store. They'll be called "rumours" and offer rewards for completing certain objectives. Keep your eyes out in the future for Ozz and maybe he'll have something for you ;)

Can confirm, am literally working on text for these right after this AMA.

Ozz abides.

So will you need a Digging Ground in the future?

Hey, that was the name of my failed espresso stand in the '90s!

With so many behemoths one might imagine there being more cults than but the unseen. Are there plans of mentions of more cults and how they interract with society of slayers as a whole?

I really love this question. We haven't delved too deeply into belief systems in the game for all kinds of reasons--primarily because few if any of the old belief systems survived intact (or even made sense after the world transformed into a sphere of floating islands).

But what you're suggesting sure does make a lot of sense. We have one upcoming story, for example, that reminds me of the first half of King Kong (the movie, not, like, the actual monster) and will feature people who may not precisely worship a Behemoth, but who do see one particular species as a sort of uncaring god-thing that greatly influences their lives.

And I think that's about as circumspect as I can get there. :)

It sounds similar to how ashes are sometimes used in agriculture to ad nutrients to soil and cultivate it. Did Embermane and Charrog specifically come to mind because of this reason or was it more of a broad oversight which behemoths made the most sense?

TBH they were chosen by the design team and I'm not totally privy to the reasons why--but I was able to retrofit the design into the lore (which happens more often than you might think in game writing).
