EDIT 2 MONDAY OCT 19:

We identified a disconnection bug with the Microsoft Store version when it was released last Thursday. And we submitted a fix to this Friday that hopefully should be approved by the certification to go out in a day or two.

The disconnect happens when a Win10 player tries to join a server created by a Win10 player.

EDIT: IT'S OUT NOW! COME GET SOME!

The Windows Store Version of Deep Rock Galactic is being replaced by a new version that should improve on both multiplayer connectivity and general stability. It includes a major change of platform code and this, unfortunately, results in the need for you to manually reinstall. If you are on the Windows Store version (Steam is unaffected and Xbox should update by itself) here's what you need to do - Uninstall the game - Wait until the new version is available (this could take 24 hours) - Download and install the game - Start the game and start mining!

Thanks! Do we just have to keep checking the windows store for when the new version is posted? It automatically started DLing a 1 Gig update when I went to the store this morning and I haven't uninstalled it yet (on MS Store Windows 10).

We just deployed it, and it needs to sync across Microsofts servers, so that might not be it. If you’re not challenged on bandwidth, you could check back occassionally, otherwise wait a bit.

Edit: Actually, the real version won’t deploy until tomorrow. The one released today is telling people they’ll need to uninstall.

What happens to people who don't uninstall? Are they able to play with people who did?

It will update to a version with the above message. If they’ve disabled updating they can probably play with others who’ve done the same.

How do we know when we should install again?

Safest bet is 24 hours. The current build is giving the same message and the real one should be rolled out to tomorrow.

Its still telling me to reinstall, will it change soon 😅

Unfortunately it’s up to Microsoft and the deities of data synching. It’s out for some, so it’s a matter of time.

Still not able to download a new version on the PC Windows store... Is there a special way I need to uninstall/reinstall it? I am right-clicking on the game in the start menu to uninstall, and then searching the Windows store for the game and installing it. Same message after a few tries this morning.

How can you roll out an update that is excluding all MS Store players from playing online and not even adress the issue in any way? u/GSG_Jacob anything?

I am not sure what you are referring to but the update has an issue where win10 players cannot join win10 players from the server list, but all other ways of playing online, including invites still work.

We have made a fix which is in certification now, we will roll it out as soon as we can.

From the boss man himself, but the parent comment got buried:

Glad to hear you worked on a fix.

Yes I am exactly referring to the issue for Win10 players not being able to play together. Invites do not work, my friends open and enter new lobbies once they try to join an invite instead of joining my lobby - it doesnt work.

This is how the user experience unfolds: There is a new update, which in order to properly work forces me to uninstall and reinstall the game - this is already a super shitty experience, nobody wants to do that. And then after going through that trouble I cannot even play a scheduled session with my crew because of inability to join lobbies together and server error messages. Now at the same time there is no info on any known issues, so we spend hours on trying to join one another instead of actually playing the game. Days pass and you see the devs bragging about rolling out an update that fixed so many great things, while you still have no clue why you cant join.

This is not a minor issue or bug, this is a clear blocker and should have been caught by QA before pushing or at least hotfixed and, most of all, adressed right away.

Very disappointing

You could maybe have formulated it more nicely, mate, everyone is frustrated about the issue.

The only issue that is confirmed at the moment is the win10 server list issue, that has been fixed, but is currently in certification, and as such, completely out of our hands. The rest of the issues are not ones that we have noted for other players, but I will note your down and keep an eye out. It is possible that your antivirus is affecting your connection, try to go in and make sure that no FSD/DRG files are quarantined, as that can cause issues. We also have some additional troubleshooting steps on our discord, in the Xbox and Windows section, that might be able to help, in case the antivirus is not the issue, so try and take a look there.

Now for your next point - no one wants their players to uninstall the game, but that decision wasn't up for debate, it was the only way we could technically put out our engine and framework update.

In terms of known issues, as soon as we heard that was an issue, we collected the information available to us, and we try to get feedback from as many of our players as possible to identify the issue, which we did only hours after it went live. We then created builds and tested them for 2 days to make sure that the issue was fixed and we were not introducing more issues and making the situation worse. In that time we communicated with players on discord and reddit, and the xbox club as soon as we had a plan. In terms of bragging, well.. we were merely making people aware that we updated the game, and that it fixed a lot of connection issue - which it 100% has, it is very clear that the game is in a much better state stability wise, which, unfortunately, for a group of players is overshadowed by the issue we talked about before, that we have been worked on since the moment the patch went live.

Lastly, no one has said this was an minor issue, and our actions clearly indicate that it is a big issue. Should we have caught the issue? absolutely, QA should find all issues but realistically, we are 2 people, supporting 2 simultaneous updates on several platforms, and things that you tested an hour ago can break again in an hour, so it is an impossible task. Again, as I mentioned, we did a hotfix right away, but there are certification delays when you release on consoles, otherwise, you would have had the fix on friday. Again, that part is out of our hands.

If you need additional help with connection issues, please feel free to DM me, and I will do my best to try and help you, so you can get back to mining - maybe we can even share a Glypid Slammer one day.

The frustration not only comes from being unable to join servers. You can't play with your friends aswell since joining a friends lobby will open a new game and leaves you there with an empty solo lobby.

I can't see how anything that is pinned in your suggested discord channel will fix this problem at the moment.

Is that a consistent issue for you? i havent heard about that before, are you playing on win10 or xbox? if you have a repro i would love it hear it.

I totally understand that everyone is frustrated, that is why I dont get what kind of tone you expect, do you want me to sugarcoat my replys? I dont see the need to reply extra nicely on this topic - respectful and not insulting, that is what I look out for.

Now regarding the inviting bug, it seems as it is necessary to get the xbox game pass app in order for it to work. The xbox console companion that we used until now is not working, but with the new app the invites worked.

So am I understanding this correctly - the invite bug (or not being able to invite) is caused by only having the old xbox console companion installed? inviting works if you get the new xbox game pass app?
