Mod.io looks from many angles to be a new piece of software, but if you investigate its origins, it's either a fork or new implementation of modDB, which has been around since the early to mid 2000s, and hasn't ever had a good software base.
Any game with mod.io implementation performs worse since, I play space engineers and TABS, and can confirm both run worse since mod.io implementation, and performance issues are fixed with - disablemodding. I've heard from other people that Snowrunner, Humankind, and Mordhau have similar issues, also fixed by the -disablemodding launch option.
My wife works for an indie game publishing house, and says they recommend Steam Workshop or Nexus Vortex to developers they work with when consulted about mod implementation, and are considering recommending specifically against mod.io. It's a known problem in the industry.
I can understand GSG falling for the scam, but how did their testing not show performance was vastly worse with the framework enabled? And now that the community has found the problem on their own, how does it make sense to stick with mod.io instead of going back to manual modding as a middle step to switch to Workshop or Nexus?
