[2020] Can I join other games with a friend or only by myself?

When I join random games group with my friend it doesn't bring him along. It just takes me out of our party and puts me into another game. Is there a way to join other games in multiplayer where my friend and I can join at the same time?

That would be cool, I just asked our CTO about it and he said it has some edge cases that our matchmaking can't handle at the moment. I'll put it on our "nice to have" list.
