Seems if you shoot the glowing bubbles on their back this happens. I’m not 100% sure but we’ve made it happen twice both times we shot the glowing sac things.
The Crassus Bulk Detonator is actually a rare spawn. A regular Bulk Detonator does not explore into gold.

It’s a small detail. Crassus is a bit tougher and will already be spawned on the level when you start. It cannot spawn randomly during a mission.
