It can and does. With Eco I just set it to the version that's current. So for the OP that would have been 9.4.6. It won't update until you manually change the version.
That is
not disabling automatic updates (that setting would be found in Properties -> Updates, there you can only choose to do it later, for example only on start of a game, though), but using the branches, so basically exactly what I explained in my post as well, just in the sentence after that one.

is it your job as a develpper to warn the player before an upcomming update so thay can . select the branching and turn off auto update..
especialy when said update make previous game file incompatiible.

Contrary to Baldurs Gate III our game does not make save games incompatible on every update, hence we're not going that route. We already notice that many players forget to reset their branches, even after playtesting - despite clear instructions given -, so that is not really a favourable approach. It is totally sufficient to switch to an older version if you really need it, which most players don't - we don't want players to be stuck on older branches without reason.
