that would be a good addition tbh.
I guess we will do that some time far in the future, but currently it would require a massive backend change, as its currently technically impossible.

BTW, since voting still happens in browser, is Little Bobby Tables still an issue or it was fixed? I remember changing my name to NAME"' and seeing voting page became broken so no further voting were possible on that server anymore once I voted
I've not seen that issue since, but I am honestly not sure.

That would likely not work out, as usernames are used as identifiers throughout the whole game, that would not only be confusing to users but probably even more effort to get it to work.

We have tons of admin commands, recently even introduced experimental admin uis. (Civics.eco - must set a config value to true, to not overwhelm singleplayers) It's just wrong we wouldn't care about admins, given I personally have admin tools introduced all the time for our official servers that everyone profits from. A very nice one is /edit - allows you to list and edit basically any data. (Attention: Any edits you make are implemented IMMEDIATELY - without pressing apply / confirm!)

The user name is core identifier that can be changed via /object edit, but that may fail the save, so do on your own risk. You must do a restart for it to take effect and any related objects will not be renamed (like the personal bank account). We do plan to introduce a separate identifier in a future update and the ability to set your name for each server, but currently it's not possible.

We have ran the configuration you have mentioned to not be possible for our official servers, by the way. Works fine. You should make a bug report if you have a confirmed, reproducable issue with steps. Only then we can address the problem. It was never reported and as I said, we ran that configuration ourselves.
