You can build a dam and wall it off, as long as sea water doesn't reach your farm plots you're fine as well.

The game isn't that in-depth. You don't even need to worry about seawater destroying your soil condition. There is no difference between seawater and freshwater for crops, it's all the same. If you want to build a dam for whatever reason, all you need to do is surround your land with dirt or some other building block. it doesn't need to be thick either. Again the game is not that in-depth and physics doesn't apply here. Make the wall one block thick the entire way around, and you're good to go.

Sea Otter has flooded four times this year. White Tiger would flood nearly every time if we didn't have emission permits. On fitting world sizes for multiplayer servers it's not hard to get it. Singleplayer / Coop and servers using way too big worlds will of course not see it, but that's one of the reasons why we recommend specific sizes.
