Hi! Hope this is allowed.

I'm aware that it's common for server admins to intervene very little. Mostly just to solve problems with glitches or griefing players etc.

But I've often wondered, why would someone want to admin a server if they weren't actually participating in the gameplay.

My first playthrough had an admin that fully participated, the same as any other player (was his first time running a server) and it made sense to me. He (thankfully) didn't abuse his admin powers so it was all a very authentic experience. He hosted a world so that he could enjoy it too, you know?

But other times I've played, the admins have literally just hosted the world and that's basically it. They had no desire to actually play on it. I'm just curious about these types of admins ^^!

So, to those admins: How come you're kind enough to host a world without any benefit for yourself?

Or, if there is a benefit, what is it?

Thank you in advance to anyone that can enlighten me!

It's always the same for me - I start a game with friends with our own server set to public but intended for us and if people join due to my community building hobby I had since at least 15 years I start to adjust the server to the population and build something out of it. If it goes off, I continue to do so and provide the server even if we are no longer playing, as I just like community building and providing a service of fun to others.

If it doesn't take off, but people play I will also keep it running, but just not be involved. This doesn't work super well for Eco, but on many other games.
